I always feared that I would go to see a movie that I was hyped for and end up being so bored or uninterested that I would actually fall asleep in the theater.

I just never thought it would be one with Superman and Batman in it.

Granted, I've been healing from the flu, but after reading and hearing reviews for this movie after seeing it last night, I think that I was actually so bored it was sleep inducing.

I almost felt bad that I was considering going to see it again in the following week, but due to the reviews, once again, I think I'll just go see another film that I'm hyped for.

A lot of his points/opinions are dead on to mine (mind the colorful language and overall downer mood), so all I can say is that I hope the unrated director's cut 3 hour Blu-ray of this movie redeems it.

Or, you know...it could just let you skip to the parts that everyone will want to see again and again.

The review rant was pretty funny, this thread is funnier though.

Are we pretending swearing about things is new or disturbing?
I get that a lot of people still have sour grapes about Bob, but I'm glad he's still doing his thing and I kinda find his reviews interesting.
Not to turn this into a potential GamerGate topic but just showin that it is posts like this that got him fired:

http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/914054-gamergate

And things like this that made people dislike him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPYVyanorfw

But yeah dude I know why people don't like him, dunno why you thought I needed to educate myself at the fountain of knowledge that is knowyourmeme.
I kid, but seriously, I think people take this all too... seriously. :D

It's no skin off my nose if people don't like him, I forget he exists mostly until someone links to his work and then I occasionally go 'oh yeah' and maybe watch for a bit before forgetting again.

I guess I feel the man should have evolved his work by now, but instead it feels like he's become a bit more immature in his ranting.
Nothing wrong with fanboyism, you're right but I think this is a step beyond that... into a realm I'm just unable to reconcile.
I think this is what happens when you have no oversight. A lot of the people I've seen strike it out on their own have become more..polarising. It's possible they're pandering, or it's possible with nobody to keep them in check they've just become what they always were. On the other hand, you could be absolutely correct. But when I see a bunch of people becoming more polemic figures as they move from working with editors and managers to going solo, I suspect there's something else going on.
A handful of solo folks have done fairly well minus oversight. I do enjoy Jim Sterling's work more that he's on his own, but then his work is mostly satire with actual points between the hyperbole and overdramatic persona. Plus Podquisition is hands down my favorite podcast. LRR also has done extremely well being crowdfunded, but then they were always decent folks so I'm not surprised. Great community as well, I don't frequent their Twitch channel as much as I used to but they're always welcoming.
But yeah I'd say Bob definitely needs oversight, or at least a sounding board. I wouldn't even talk about it if I didn't actually like some of his work. I guess because of his Big Picture stuff I expect more from him and am consistently disappointed. Some people are better on their own, some people need at least an editor to keep them in check. Like me, I found I'm best off working independently in IT than having a boss, but there are times where I need someone to organize my schedule. I've a habit of forgetting important things. Something is off in my brain chemistry where I'll remember trivial bullcrap but sometimes important stuff slips my mind. I even forget to eat regularly.

After watching the video of MovieBob ranting about this movie, I feel compelled to thank The Escapist for letting this guy go. My God! He has lost all semblance of objectivity required of a movie critic. Tell us why you like or dislike a movie. Don't spoil each and every plot point and complain that it sucks.

As for the movie, I really liked it. It helps that I think Superman has been a poorly written character for a really long time. I appreciate the effort to make the character three dimensional and more grounded in reality. They took a lot of chances with the movie and most of it pays off. I think comic book fans are not going to like it as much as everyone else. I feel that they are too married to the original source to appreciate the changes made to the characters.

Well, Jim has apparently gone "full SJW" and is a "bully" now....

Joking aside, LRR is also a group and as such they probably moderate themselves. There's like, 400 of them.

But I feel you, they were the main attraction for me on this site. Though I'd already migrated to watching them on YouTube and didn't even notice when they left. I'm glad to see them still going, still funny, and still (mostly) Canadian.

It is possible, however, that he's doing this because it sells. These are the videos that get shared. They're probably the ones that bring in the Patreon bucks.

I sometimes worry about his future, for some reason. It's like he'll end up embittered and forgotten, with nothing but toxic vitriol within.

Or maybe he'll just fade into obscurity and do his own stuff.

Of course he is! He was in that one panel where that one guy said that doxxing was okay! Even though he didn't applaud him and the video I've seen is mostly contextless.

Oh...

Did he have to whine so hard and lace is review with obscenities? No, but the actual review is pretty spot on. I saw BvS today and I turned to my girlfriend halfway through and just said "I hate this." She was glad to hear she wasn't the only one. I just don't understand how you can spend so much money and get this movie so, so wrong. Especially when the DC animated universe and their television series (your mileage may vary) are so damn good. Bob pretty much highlighted all of my qualms with the film but he did leave out that Batman is a straight up murderer in this movie. He guns down multiple people and sets one guy ablaze by shooting the gas tank on his flamethrower.

No, No, No. I thought that for a split second that the 3 hour cut would fix it but then I quickly realized there's so many scenes that don't need to be there already that more runtime would only make this thing worse. There's no point to the Africa or Capitol scenes already. Man of Steel, itself, was enough of a setup for this film (Superman being a danger to Earth) and the end of Man of Steel was shown in this anyways. Why is Lex using weird ass bullets that are just bullets? Just so Lois has something to do. EVERYTHING is so contrived. Why is Batman branding people? Then, it's said that being branded means death in prison. But why would "normal" criminals kill criminals caught by Batman? And, didn't Batman sorta just return to being Batman (as this is based off The Dark Knight Returns) so this branding thing is new thus how would it even be concluded that being branded would get you killed? Almost nothing makes sense, even the little things.

Movie Bob is an insufferable joke. I don't know why anyone pays any attention to his awful reviews.

I think the brandings turning into a mark of death in prison are because he's exclusively doing it to child and adult sex offenders, and slavers. It was covered in one of the brief news report bits.

Ah, but don't prisoners already have it out for those types of people?

He's been doing that a lot since he was let go but it really started getting worse after his Pixels review. It used to be that only one or two films a year got this sort of treatment but now basically any movie that isn't at least a 3/5 stars from him gets the acid bath.
Uh, might wanna try correcting your quotes there man.

In fairness, the title, the trailers and a very basic knowledge of comic books already did that.

Everybody here knew every likely plot thread that occurred when the second trailer came out. All that there was to miss is the minutae. Nobody who doesn't know this stuff is watching Bob anyways. I mean, its kind of like being mad when somebody tells you who takes what side in the upcoming Civil War movie.
I respectfully disagree. He cataloged almost every detail of the movie. A lot of them were not in the comic books that inspired the movie. I'll list 2 examples I can think of off hand in the spoilers.
Glass of urine. Batman not killing Superman after he finds out that his adoptive mother has the same name as his dead mother.

Say it with me: "His name was Robert Chipman. He had bitchtits."

What can I say, I watched the movie and I liked it. Superman hasn't been in the game long enough to pick a fight without there being collateral damage, and Wayne tower being a huge part of his first real scuffle pissed off the Batman. This is the crux of what a lot of the movie is about and it carries on from there with Lex jr, knowing full well who all the actors are, manipulating them into fighting each other so they don't focus in on his experiments. Movie in a nutshell, plus a side story about Diana trying to hide the fact that she is a Highlander. It's a fun watch, the fights are sweet, and the allusions to what's coming are all there, including the possibility that Earth had been visited before by Darkseid and his ilk.

Bob's gonna rage, Joe's definitely gonna rage. The schmoes went all Siskel n Ebert - thumbs up, thumbs down and Jeremy went "meh". There are story and character flaws that will drive critics crazy but not really bother your average moviegoer. Is Eisenberg's Lex a manic, more disassociative version of his character in The Social Network? there's definitely a comparison to be made - even when he's partying he'd rather be working. Will this annoy reviewers? Absolutely, and he has his hair through 90% of the film! FOR SHAME!

Go see it, heck, go in the afternoon and catch a matinee if you don't want to pay full price. I was not disappointed and you might not be either.
I think I mostly agree with this.

I can see where people are coming from with a lot of the criticism, I really can. But having said that I thought it had plenty of cool things going on, and I wasn't bored at any point. The fight scenes ranged from good-awesome (imho) with the doomsday fight being pretty standard super-hero fare and the batman vs. superman and batman vs. goons fights being good fun to watch. For whatever it's worth I enjoyed some of the cinematography a lot. I know people were complaining that it includes the Batman origin tale (again!) but it was short and I thought it was very nicely done.

In short: It didn't blow my mind, but I liked it.

Pretty much, which has always made me wonder why he has such a devoted fan base.

But then I remember that there are actually people who are unironically fans of those two ass-hat man-children known as Tim and Eric, and I lose just a little hope for the future.

Millennials confound me, even though I am one.
