The Spirit.

That movie receives so much hate... but I actually really like it.

Maybe it's because I don't know anything about The Spirit comic books, or maybe I just went in with the right mindset, but I found it hilariously campy.

Really, Samuel Jackson's performance was funny as all hell, ESPECIALLY the nazi scene. Nearly fell out of my chair.

I also thought it just looked really good, the visuals really did look like a stylized comic book.

I CAN'T be the only person who liked it... can I?

Watchmen seems to get a fair bit of undue criticism. I thought it was a fantastic film, but according to some it stays too close to the original while simultaneously deviating too far.
Theyre probably talking about the end and one or two, retrospectavely, plot holes but for the most part I agree. I thought it was the closest thing we've had to a faithful Alan Moore adaptation.

Im going to say Waterworld. I don't love it but I don't see why its so hated. Its an OK movie.

I really, really, really liked Boat Trip with Cuba Gooding Jnr.
I don't think anyone else I know really likes that film, except my mum who only likes it because Cuba's in it and he's got a 'sweet face'.

And I also loved the Rocker. Apparently this bombed in cinemas, but has become a bit of an underground hit so I know people out there must <3 it as much as me. And who wouldn't love it? I've managed to use half of the memorable quotes from this film in my social life!

From greats such as "A lot of elevators play Celine Dion, doesn't make it right" to "Too loud is not in my vocabulary" followed by "Responsible? Yeah I'm responsible alright. For partying till my nuts catch fire!"

Epic.

I liked 007 quantum of solace.
So did I. I didn't think it was as good as Casino Royale, but it was far from bad.
I give you high five if you hate Roger Moore.

I also like Matrix Revolutions (even if I hate it when Keanu Reeves is replaced by someone with slightly more personality: a cg representation. Yes, bad joke was bad).

Edit: I can hate things, too? AWESOME! (Also, shut up about me already hating Roger Moore)
*pulls out list* I've been waiting for this day.
Rosemary's Baby- Not scary, not interesting, not even subtle.
Heavenly Creatures - I don't give a fuck SOOOO MUCH that I hate this movie. I didn't think that was possible: getting passion out of the lack thereof.
Suicide Circle - You can't build a movie on symbolism alone. It has to have coherent plot as well. Symbols should be used to compliment the story or the characters, not the other way around.
Batman - It was entertaining for the first half-hour, then it just got irritating. I don't really like Tim Burton, anyway.
Unbreakable - back to the passion from the lack thereof. Over-hype over about 4 years before I actually got to see it probably pissed me off the most, though.
X-Men - It had its moments (mostly early on with Wolverine) but was otherwise just interesting. X-Men 2 was better. And to be fair, I really don't like Marvel comics on the whole (I still saw the Iron Man movies and The Incredible Hulk, though.
The Descent - It started with some promise: the drama, the characters. Then it went into unscary horror movie mode. Boo for violent conflict resolution (what am I saying?) HOWEVER, I liked this one scene where you saw one of those buggers in the background, but the camera didn't focus on it. That was fairly effective and worked better in The Strangers (which I should have put in my movies that everyone hated/no one remembers but I actually liked category).

Well i loved the movie 'Wanted' even though everyone seems to think its the stupidest most unrealistic movie ever because their bullet curving powers is based on a metaphor, whats depressing is my friends say this then go watch lord of the rings or harry potter which are both even in a world where magic is the norm unrealisticly stupid and bad and they both suffer from 'too much boring talking about nothing itis' maybe i just have a too short of attention span but that makes me dislike those movies and i couldnt watch a godfather movie without falling asleep

I can't think of anyone who enjoyed the Last Airbender. Whether or not they watched the show...it was just that fucking awful.

And The Happening for that matter.

But, while on the topic of Mr. Shyamalan, I actually really enjoyed Lady In The Water which seems to get as much shit as the other two mentioned.

Could it be that you're just Comic-Book-Guy-ing the movie instead?
I never read one Spidey comic in my life.

I did love the animated series though.

I don't know, I thought the Happening was hilarious. "What? No." Best line delivery ever.

The most recent M. Night Shyamalan film I've seen is The Village (which I really liked, by the way), so I'm not really qualified to say that all of his films are good, but I do get the impression that most people don't give them a fair chance. It seems like people see his name and think "twist at the end..." without really actually wondering if maybe the film itself is good (whether there actually is a twist or not).

I liked The Phantom Menacé too. I was, like, 9 at the time. I probably just wasn't paying attention to much of it. If I had it on DVD or something I'd definitely check, though.

On the popular-things-I-dislike side...
There were some bits I didn't like in Avatar. I've only seen it once, and that was almost a year ago so I don't remember it clearly enough to really say whether or not I like it overall (I definitely liked it at the time, though). What I didn't like was all the montages of the guy learning how to do stuff. "And then, this happened!" is not good film-storytelling in my opinion. I get that, in the story, it was necessary for him to learn those things, and that if the film included the entire learning process it would probably be quite a bit longer, but it just kind of feels... jumpy. I don't know why, but I feel like that sort of thing works better in books. Maybe it's because books uncontrollably have narration, narration that is (usually) neither a character from the story nor has any personal involvement with it. When there's a narrator in a movie, it's usually one of those things, and I feel like it doesn't work as well when we have someone telling us what they did, rather than kind of matter-of-fact type statements. I don't really know for sure. I don't completely understand this dislike.
I can't think of a popular film that I actually full-on disliked. There might've been some...
