Simple enough, what are the movies you think everyone should see before they depart.
Can be for any reason, humor, sadness, touching moments, or just pure fun...

Ill start with Big Fish

Not a single part of it i didn't like.

Since Shawshank was already mentioned, I'll add Memento and American Beauty.
These two are most important out of ones already listed and the ones I say would be every movie directed by Stanley Kubrick, Great Director, and Alfred Hitchcock, and Martin Scorcese a few of my favorite directors. I almost forgot, but also "Raising Arizona" I just recently seen this and I loved it.

I have a book called 1001 movies to see before you die. Do you want me to start listing them?
If I picked one it would be The Shawshank Redemption or 12 angry men.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Don't know what other people thing of that movie, but I think it is the best thing Jim Carrey has ever done.
Also, District 9, Pan's Labyrinth and Blade Runner. Might remember more eventually.

But this is all down to different opinions, so eventually you will get someone who says Twilight. Maybe not on this forum, seeing how the majority here are smart people.

Children of Men really struck a chord with me...

but then again I was pregnant at the time. That might've been it. Still a good movie tho. Just my op.

As people have already mentioned:
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
The Dark Knight

And I'd also add:
Fight Club
Pulp Fiction
The Matrix (the first movie)

Ophiuchus

I can't stand Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst or Elijah Wood, yet somehow this managed to be one of the best films I've ever seen.

Um, I'll go ahead and suggest The Crow. Bit dark and whatnot, but it's a nice story.
