I'm sure a good few of these have been mentioned already...

Memento - a solid mindf*ck flick, if there ever was one

Usual Suspects - this movie cemented Kevin Spacey as one of my all-time favorite actors

The Abyss and The Abyss: Director's Cut - to truly see how the production company can deepsix a well-crafted film in post-production

Ed Wood - an amazing bio-pic portraying one of the worst, yet most loved, director/producers of all time (as opposed to Uwe Boll, who is just universally despised)

(not a "movie", but absolutely HAD to be on this list...)
Deadwood - HBO's short-lived series was everything that a western series should be

The Alien series, the Predator series, and Fight Club are all well worth a watch. But, I would have to say the movie you have to see before you die is...THE WARRIORS! Can you dig it?

Monty Python's life of Brian : just for the ending...

"always look on the bright side of life~ *whistle*" Just what you need before you bite the bucket :)
"life's a piece of shit..when you look at it. Life's a laugh, death's a joke it's true. You'll see it's all a show, keep 'em laughing as you go. Just remember that the last laugh is on you."

It think it's worth trying to see as many movies as you can before you die, It's one of the last great escapeisms.

What I'd recommened, Eraserhead, Blade Runner, Spirited Away, Apocalypse Now and anything Luc Besson had his sweet sweet hand in usually comes up roses.

Oh yeah and my ultimate guilty pleasure, Crank 2. I know what your thinking, but he was dead, then he got better!
How can you not enjoy a film willing to run on that tagline?

Downfall. Yes it's subbed but i'm fairly sure everyone on the forum has learned to read at some point.

Also, "Moon" was either trying to hard or not trying hard enough. It had a very good thing going with the "whats going on is he going crazy or maybe he's really a clone" for about 5 minutes before the movie went and ruined itself by goin "yeah he's a clone" and left the remaining 45 mins of the movie with "well now what?" syndrome. kinda like the TV series "Lost" which started by balancing excellent story potential in one hand and excellent characters in the other, couldn't make up it's mind what to do with either and ended up dropping both into the mud and walked off to watch the care bears movie.

Shaun of the Dead, or The Dark Knight.

Dark Knight because it's a comic book movie, but it is just so intelligent and dark it feels awesome.

Shaun of the Dead because it is just so great and amazing all the way through. Very well done, is a love letter to George A Romero and the Spaced references are cool.
