The Thing (John Carpenter)
Umm...how? The Thing gets destroyed in the end? Sure, Jeff Bridges and Keith David are left to freeze to death, so...it's more of a Pyrrhic Victory than a loss for the protagonists.

Hmm...bad guy for the win huh...the original Wicker Man, a sure win for the villain Lord Summerisle played by Christopher Lee.
When you take into account what the Thing is, it's doubtful that it was entirely killed in the explosion. Remember all that's needed is one cell. I'd say that it's debatable.

Hmm... Only one that comes to mind would be Watchmen, but probably only since I saw it a couple days ago.

PS: Seriously, the movie was as good as it was ever going to get. If you got a problem with it, just think of all the other ways it could have gone wrong.

Star Wars,
The uprising rebellion destroyed a massive research station filled with millions of innocent civilians! How Dare they? You'd think a film such as that would depict the Benevolent Empire NOT falling under an uprising of Thugs, nay, TERRORISTS!
Oh yea, don't forget Monty Python and the Holy Grail

not really, i mean yeah the villan dies at the end, but think of what he does to the protaganist.

protaganist is: kidnapped for years kept in a room and gassed when they give him food, then dumped onto a roof in a suitcase, has to fight quite alot of people, then is told that he been comitting incest unwittingly with his daughter which leads him to cut his own tounge out with scissors, infornt of the villan no less.

if thats not a win for evil then i dont really know what is

Oldboy is messed up >< The octopus bit made me gag a little...

I watched Arlington Road last night and although I kinda knew the ending from comments on this thread it was a great film! Thanks for adding it to this thread!

I'm having a bit of trouble thinking of more now though, we must have most of em :)

At least that gets... 'fixed' in Day Watch.

Since I've been on a movie binge for awhile, let's add in:
Versus, The Midnight Meat Train, Resident Evil: Degeneration, (maybe) Gosford Park, and (depending on who you think the bad guy is) Memento.

EDIT: Oh, and duh, Payback.

Well it depends upon whether you believe that the hypnosis at the end worked or not. If it did then he's still got Mi-do and doesn't know the truth, and the only man out to get him is dead.

Also consider the fact that Oh Dae-su isn't exactly a saint himself.

Here's the thing with tragedies and movies where the bad guy wins. Film, TV, novels, theatre, really any story is usually driven by the 'major dramatic question' or the 'dumb plot' which is: "Will (protagonist) overcome (antagonist) and get (whatever it is they're after)?"

If the answer to the major dramatic question is "no," then we get angry and want to know why we just wasted our time watching this movie for nothing. So every movie should get a "yes" to the major dramatic question, but in tragedies, they get it in the worst, most twisted way possible.

Anyway, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is a great example of a 'yes' but with a sad ending. He gets what he wanted the whole time, but the worst way.

EDIT: 300 as well.

Cloverfield? Everyone kinda dies and you don't know for sure if the monster is dead.

i never knew that the original material (the book "The golden egg") was made into a movie.
but yeah, the bad guy won in every single way (noone knowing that it was him and even got the protagonist killed).
