A little background. I work at a cinema, and during a slow patch the staff all sat down for a cup of coffee. We started talking about the new James Bond movie being put on hold, and the trainee projectionist said he had never seen any of the James Bond movies. I was taken aback by this as they are such a large (in popularity and number of iterations)franchise and he works at a cinema. Pressing him further it turns out he had never seen the Godfather, Pulp Fiction, The Matrix, Blade Runner, or A Clockwork Orange.

So I ask you, Escapists, what films, if any, do you think everyone needs to see?

Oldboy.

It's probably just because it's my movie of the month, but damn it, Oldboy is fucking awesome and must be watched!

The Digimon Movie!

...

What? You all knew I was gonna say it! Fine! Star Wars! You have to have at least seen one of them.

Calumon: The one's with me in it! ^^

From all those movies I've only seen The Matrix.

Eulogy, Yojimbo and Secretary (last one only if you are mature enough to look through premises).

A Clockwork Orange (provided they're not, y'know, five) is a definite must.
Pulp Fiction as well.

I'm tempted to also say "Citizen Kane," as cliche'd as that sounds, the movie is just phenomenal.

Snatch, although (I think) it's not as well known as is should be, it's like the best movie ever. Oh and also the Back To The Future trilogy.

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Just because the argument 'comic book movies are stupid' is something I hear way too often.
In that case, Ghost World would strengthen your argument.

2001: A space Odyssey, a film entirely in it's own class. There is no other film like it, and probably never will be.

Also Pink Floyd The Wall, beautifully crafted fusion of concept album and film. Anyone who considers themselves a fan of Pink Floyd has to have seen this film.
