Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Just because the argument 'comic book movies are stupid' is something I hear way too often.
Ugh, you thought Dark Knight and BB were intelligent movies? Man...The only good part of Dark Knight was Heath Ledger as the joker.
Did you just insult not one, but two Christopher Nolan movies and call them unintelligent? You must be confusing them for two entirely different movies written and directed by someone entirely different.
Maybe if they hadn't hired Christian Bale (notice he only had throat cancer as Batman?) Seems like a stupid decision to me. I think the dude who played Rorschach had a ten times cooler growl voice.
I'll accept Batman's voice as a legitimate complaint about the movie, but it honestly isn't that distracting, Bale still did a very good job as Bruce Wayne, and the movies are still excellent.

In that case, Ghost World would strengthen your argument.
...and A History of Violence

Pressing him further it turns out he had never seen the Godfather, Pulp Fiction, The Matrix, Blade Runner, or A Clockwork Orange.
How the hell did he get that job?

Interviewer: So what films are you interested? What movies are your sort of scene?
Interviewee: Emmm, nothing really.
Interviewer: ...so will you work for horrible pay and do obscene hours?
Interviewee: Yes.
Interviewer: You're hired!
True Story: In his interview one of the Supervisors stated "Taking over the world" as one of his long term goals.
ha ha ha! that is brilliant

You think Jackie Earl Haley, who is too old, too short, too slim built, ginger, balding and not handsome should have played batman/bruce wayne because he can do a growly voice...?

I'm just gonna let that settle for a while longer...

Yeah, now you thought about it, it isn't such a great idea after all is it? He's a great actor but so wrong for this role in so many ways.

The Digimon Movie!

...

What? You all knew I was gonna say it! Fine! Star Wars! You have to have at least seen one of them.

Calumon: The one's with me in it! ^^
I agree with Calumon, you have to see Digimon, otherwise you have not lived.

There are a few films that must be experienced at least once

The Godfather
Life is Beautiful
Schindler's List
The Matrix
Original Star Wars trilogy
Heat- The first meeting of Pacino and De Niro. Absolutely epic.

Those are all a given, but I wouldn't consider a lot of my other favorites must see. As much as I love The Lord of the Rings, it's not for everyone. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody except the one Tolkien fan who has been living in a cave for the past twenty years.

Not really focusing on what I think is great, but stuff that has given a lot to pop culture..

Any of the original Star Wars trilogy. These movies get referred to on a daily basis.
Any of the original Indy trilogy. Same as Star Wars, to a lesser extent.
Any James Bond movie. Again, same as Star Wars.
Pulp Fiction. Just pure greatness.
Casablanca. Sums up Hollywood of the 1940's. Also a great movie.
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. The quintessential western.
Seven Samurai. Kurosawa's masterpiece. Also a good look at what was going on the other end of the world at the time.
Plan 9 From Outer Space. A So Bad it's Good cult movie.
Twilight movies. See above.

Also Pink Floyd The Wall, beautifully crafted fusion of concept album and film. Anyone who considers themselves a fan of Pink Floyd has to have seen this film.
Definitely a classic. Interesting psychology and imagery too.

Where did i EVER say Jackie Earl Haley should play Batman?? I just said he pulls off the growl voice way better than Christian Bale. epic misunderstanding lol.

Jurassic Park
It only took 101 posts to finally bring in Jurassic Park into this. Why was it not mentioned before?

Uuuhhhh, I can't think of any other right now (SUPPOSED to be doing HW). I'll come back when I think of others that weren't mentioned right now.
To be honest, it was tough for me to add it. I like the movie and everything, but it is more of a spectacle type of thing to me. This is pretty common I suppose, but the book completely craps all over the movie.

Because everyone's already covering the classics at many levels, I'll let my recent fanboyism shine through and say Kick-Ass. Seriously, that movie was awesome!

Also, anything by Miyazaki.

I think it is a crime against humanity if you haven't seen The Royal Tenenbaums or Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

As a side note, I've seen Fear and Loathing a lot and loved it every time. Then I saw it sober once and I haven't watched it since then. And I love Terry Gilliam as a director. I would recommend watching it after smoking a bowl or drinking heavily.

Speaking definitively, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Amazing movie and truly one that stays extremely important as time passes.

On a more personal note, There Will Be Blood. Yes, 15 minutes of no dialogue, a two-and-a-half hour runtime, and more dramatic than many moviegoers would like, but it's so incredible at drawing you in if you're willing to give it a shot. Plus, Daniel-Day Lewis, so he'll definitely be a large reason to see this.

It's not as well known or definitive, but that's why I continuously recommend it to friends who are huge movie fans that haven't seen it.

There Will Be Blood has my favorite ending to a movie. When you laugh as Daniel Day Lewis going on about I drink your milkshake you feel scared and uncomfortable at the same time because he has literally gone bat shit crazy because of his level of greed.

At least 4 Hong Kong chop-socky flicks, for sheer fun.

I can remember two I enjoyed: Tiger on the Beat and One Armed Boxer vs. The Flying Guillotine. Tiger on the Beat is enjoyable because (and I'm recommending the movie for this ONE scene) there is a point in the movie where two men fight with CHAINSAWS. Let me repeat that, for those of you who had not had your minds blown yet: Two men. Having a kung-fu fight. Using CHAINSAWS. And as for the latter movie, the premise is simply ridiculous, but in an amusing sense. The One Armed Boxer seeks revenge on The Flying Guillotine, a blind martial artist who wields the titular Flying Guillotine, a box which you encase a person's head in with a chain that you pull.

And then afterwards, Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. Movie will leave you in stitches.
