Pressing him further it turns out he had never seen the Godfather, Pulp Fiction, The Matrix, Blade Runner, or A Clockwork Orange.
How the hell did he get that job?

Star Wars all the way. I just about killed my friend when she said she hadn't seen any of them.

Just to original and to say something I doubt anybody else has.

Once Upon a Time in the West

The greatest Western ever made and a truly epic film. It blends ideas of vengence, freedom, industrialism and power. A glorious showing of how the western ideal died and on the men who defined it. If youhaven't seen this film please go out and watch it now.

Jurassic Park
It only took 101 posts to finally bring in Jurassic Park into this. Why was it not mentioned before?

Uuuhhhh, I can't think of any other right now (SUPPOSED to be doing HW). I'll come back when I think of others that weren't mentioned right now.

Several people said The Seven Samurai, and let me reiterate that. Also, let me say that if you plan on watching this movie, set aside 3 hours where you will be undisturbed and focused, or else you won't get the full value of the movie. I may not be well-versed in movies, but I can say this, at least.

On another note, I'm ashamed to say that I started listing all the movies in this topic that I hadn't seen (and still intended to) and got to 106, and most of the movies I had seen were the sci-fi/fantasy/superhero movies that people tend to spout off in these circles. When I went to IMDb, that count ballooned to 245. Looks like I have some work to do; see you all in 5ish years.

The Digimon Movie!

...

What? You all knew I was gonna say it! Fine! Star Wars! You have to have at least seen one of them.

Calumon: The one's with me in it! ^^
I don't even know you. How would I know what you would say?
Anyway, I think someone should see at least three Pixar films.

Damn! I was hoping I'd be able to say this without being ninja'd.

Yes that is an awesome film. Some of Connery's best acting I reckon ^_^

So yeah that, as well as EVERY Bond movie. Every one.

For sheer artistic, emotional and story-telling mastery: Clockwork Orange, Blade Runner, Children of Men, Se7en, Fight Club, Donnie Darko, Memento, the Bourne films, the Oceans trilogy (especially Oceans 13), the Mist.

And then for kicks, we go with Tron, Kick Ass, Iron Man 1 and 2, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead

The batman from 1966. It is seriously one of the most enjoyable movies you will probably ever see.

As for serious movies, everyone should probably see Citizen Kane, but you should watch it paying attention to it's filming techniques if you really want to appreciate it.

It's weird - so many people love this movie, but there was something that I just didn't like about it when I watched it.
It may have been the extremely unlikeable characters (with the exception of Kevin Spacey), or maybe the painful amount of pretentiousness it contains. I can't be sure. :D

There are a lot more movies that I think are really excellent, but for the Movies that you have to see, I'd say
The Shawshank Redemption
Fight Club
Taxi Driver
Goodfellas
The Godfather
The Star Wars trilogy
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
The original Indiana Jones movies
Memento
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill
Schindler's List
Citizen Kane
Donnie Darko
Tron
2001: A Space Odyssey
A Clockwork Orange
Fullmetal Jacket
Dr. Strangelove
The Shining
The Big Lebowski
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Big Fish
The Matrix
Back to the Future
I'm positive that there are others, but I can't think of any at the moment

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Just because the argument 'comic book movies are stupid' is something I hear way too often.
Ugh, you thought Dark Knight and BB were intelligent movies? Man...The only good part of Dark Knight was Heath Ledger as the joker.
Did you just insult not one, but two Christopher Nolan movies and call them unintelligent? You must be confusing them for two entirely different movies written and directed by someone entirely different.

Maybe if they hadn't hired Christian Bale (notice he only had throat cancer as Batman?) Seems like a stupid decision to me. I think the dude who played Rorschach had a ten times cooler growl voice.

Ugh, you thought Dark Knight and BB were intelligent movies? Man...The only good part of Dark Knight was Heath Ledger as the joker. You want to see an intelligent comic book movie? Go watch Watchmen, it makes the new batman movies look like they were written by a five year old. I'm not kidding.
Anyways, 1.Watchmen 2.The Labyrinth 3.Mallrats 4.Clerks 5. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
yea, that's all i can think of atm...
Whoa whoa whoa, tone down the opinion-is-truth device. I didn't say, and I'll refrain from saying that Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were the epitome of an intelligent movie, however what I pointed out is that just because it's a comic book movie, it doesn't have to be silly. Also, I did see Watchmen and it was good, but for me, not as good as those two. Now the writing, it's really good in all three, but again, just because you didn't like those doesn't mean it's any worse.

Also, this part in particular. Do you want to get destroyed by quotes from thousands of reviews and interviews or what? Joker may have been the highlight of the movie, but boy is he far from being the only good thing in it.

I really didnt mean to sound like i was speaking ultimate wisdom or anything, i am fully aware that this is my opinion. Dude, Christian Bale totally ruined both those movies for me. He gets all cross eyed when the camera's looking directly at him, and the whole Batman with throat cancer thing was fuckin lame. And my biggest reason for saying Watchmen is superior to Batman has to do with human behaviors. Batman very rarely displays normal human emotion, he is,essentially, a one-dimensional character. The characters in Watchmen, on the other hand, FELT like REAL people.

And, yes, the comic was MUCH better. But damn, dude, it was awesome to see them in live action.

I personally don't think people HAVE to have seen a specific movie. This is probably because, since I almost never watch movies, much less go to a theatre or a video store, I probably have not seen most of these "big hits" that supposedly everyone knows about.

With that said, if people miss a Pulp Fiction reference, i'd be a little suprised.
