I think you're just working with a to rigid system. You memorize these things when you should just be playing, plans are overrated and prevent you from adapting. Just go with the flow. Act as things come to you, never before hand. If faced with an immediate threat let your instincts take over, true combat is primal.

Follow this advice and you will be as good as me.
Funny you mention it... I just spent a couple of hours on MW2, had a few games where I relaxed and just took it as it came... running toward the enemy spawn with my TAR FMJ... ended up getting great scores and even got my AC-130 on Bailout by rushing!

I know what happens now though... I try to repeat it later tonight and end up negative 10 with a red face and quickly rising rage :D
Trying to exactly replicate tactics that have worked before usually seems to result in failure for me. I think you just need to play each game as it is. Maps have good spots, and tactics that are worth bearing in mind, but almost every time I've deliberately played the same way, i've quickly stopped because of it's been a disaster.

FPS I am usually always 2 to 1 K/D even on FPS I have never played.

RTS & Fighter games (Like SF and SC) - OMFG - I suck hard core at them even if I love them

I usually pick up on a game and many of it's tricks quicker than the average person. And for awhile, I will have the advantage and be among the best. But I hit my ceiling very quickly and I'm soon religated to being just "above average" in most of the games I play.

I like fighting games, but I just don't have the reflexes to do well with them. I used to be good with strategy games, but they've evolved into something that requires more multi-tasking and micro than I'm capable of. While I'm good at realizing the best way to work around a situation, I lack the ability to execute it effectivly.

I work best in games that allow me to make use of my good situational/spatial awareness. Via visual clues (such as rocket or bullet-trails), sound cues, and map knowledge; I usually have a pretty good idea what's going on around me before other people do. This has allowed me to hold my own in many shooters. I may not be able to outsnipe anybody, but I always know where I am and the firelanes or ambush points in my area. Heck, I'm usually the first one to spot the spy in TF2 :)

Killing 30 year olds online is part of their muscle memory now, much like trying to be good at Virtua Fighter 5 when its the first beat em up you've played, trying to be good at a shooter well I'm afraid to say your far too late to the party.
To be honest that's kind of a relief... at least I have an excuse for my averageness :) but then how do these little 12 year olds run all over the place getting amazing games?

45 killstreak on KillZone 2.

Sorry but I gotta brag about that, KillZone is fucking hard.
I'll forgive you for bragging on that one, as a 45 kill streak is impressive in any game!

I can naturally just hop into a random lobby and get 20 kills. However once in a while I do have my off days.

Very true, especially in a game as random as MW2. You never know when you're going to end up in a lobby full of Commando lungers or OMA douchebags.

I go around the fight and strike at the best point with the weapons that are appropriate, if I had a battle rifle, I pick them off like a mid range sniper.

Im quite good at FPS's, not extremely good however, but I'll sometimes end up topping the scoreboard in BC2 (I know I do better than my friend, but he only plays hardcore really so Im not surprised...)

In M&B Warband however....Heheh...

i'm decent at everything i do provided i've practiced for a bit. Never exceptional, but never terrible either. Unless we're talking SSFIV, in which case, yeah, i've got a bit of an ego (even though my scores don't reflect the big game i talk lol)

i am pretty decent usually above average if i put in a bit of time. one game that i can pwn at is RDR though. i can pwn the shit out of people in that game i once got a 12 kill streak in free a all just running around in the center of the road with a rifle.(though i did 100% single player and i am pretty useless with aim assist turned off). the only thing is after you win a round or two in a row it stacks the other team against you so it is pretty darn difficult to win 4 in a row and get the darn trophy. In MW2 though i pretty much suck i run in too much and don't see people i don't have the patience to sit somewhere with n00b tubes

In most FPS games my K/D ratio is 0.85, except in Halo where it's around 0.2 (I hate Halo)
In Street Fighter IV I can win 7 out of 10 matches most of the time, but it took me about a month to get there and I haven't played it in a while so I guess I'm pretty rusty.

It depends on the game, really. If it's a Capcom fighting game, then I can get the hang of it pretty easily since they've been using the same mechanics since the 80's.

RTS's are another story. I love them, but I suck at them because my actions per minute are incredibly low. I'm also bad at 'micro-ing'.

I'd say that I'm the type of gamer that takes around 1 week to get to "average" skill in certain games.

When playing with just friends I never try. I do this so much that when we actually play with other people, my friends are shocked at how skilled I really am. I have crushed every single one of my friends in every RTS imagineable. I'm excellent at Third Person Shooters, and I'm an ok FPS player.

It kinda sucks though because none of my friends will play Starcraft or Warcraft III with me anymore because I keep beating them. None of them have SC2 yet, and I suspect we're all going to get it when we finally get the money to upgrade our PC's.

One of my friends hopes I won't be very good at SC2 when I finally get it so he can beat me a few times before I get the hang of it. Although if what I've seen and heard is true, picking up the strategies won't be too difficult.

I'm the kind of player who (in FPS) often finishes a couple of kills above or below my deaths. Occasionally I'll play uncharacteristically well and finish in excess of +10 K/D Spread.
I'm basically the same. :D :D :D

Naturally gifted, after 10 or so minutes I'm used to the controls and after an hour ago I'm facing the big dogs quite easily, except fighting games because a lot of the time knowing the combos don't do anything against button bashers and its kind of hard to remember XBBAYUpBDownX every time you wanna do a combo.

well im the above average type of gamer, i take things seriusly to the point i lose control of myself and start bashing shit up like my controller aginst the floor (anger issues) and i sometimes play relaxed but when i do play like that i tend to do rlly bad in games, but when i play i do put some hours in wasting my life away instead of getting sum and going to the outside world, lol the gamers remorse?
