Put on some Bach. What people don't realize about classic (or is it "classical"?) music is that they might have heard it mentioned often, but they haven't heard a lot of it. Most people haven't actually LISTENED to more than an hour of Mozart, for instance.

so im looking to listen to some new good music....unfortunately there is none to be found. so then i looked onto youtube just for a small glimpse of hope. first names that come up are justin beaver, lady gaga, rihanaana, and miley cyrus. it then occurs to me that no one sent me a letter or an email to Music's funeral. How long has it been dead, seriously? it really saddens me that the last good band that i know of is Tenacious D. Any thoughts on this?
Maybe you should expand your musical horizons. Music is far from dead.

Try classical? If you don't like Bach, Mozart and Beethoven what about stravinsky, xenakis, Alban Berg, Arnold Scoenberg, Danielpour?

Or what about Jazz? Ornette Colman, Dave Brubeck, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, William Parker?

Blues? Blue Grass? Finding indy bands in your area or just plugging into the Indy scene?

Music is more alive than ever. But if you search for it in areas that are just going to feed you what is the "in" product of the week then of course you are going to get Lady Gaga or Justin Beaver

It has been, since Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly died. Hence, "The Day the Music Died".
I better take the Chevy to the levee.

Wait... I don't have a Chevy...

Or a drivers license...

And what the fuck is a levee anyway?

Yeah, I like classic rock. While Cage the Elephant may be new, they still have the classic rock feel to me. Music isn't dead.

First song is awesome
War machine is not the best AC/DC, but the best ones are from awhile ago, so they may fit into the Music is Dead. War is still better than miley cyrus.
And the Billy Joel song just fit.

Porcupine Tree. Hands down. it's like psychedelic rock + psychedelic metal + atmospheric.
You sir, know what you're talking about. I just saw them live in Toronto a couple months ago and it was simply amazing. One of the best concerts I'll ever see.

Also check out the band dEUS.
Look up the songs Eternal Woman, The Architect, Favourite Game by them on youtube.

Like many have said, music is not dead and will never die, but it can certainly feel that way when your only exposure is radio and MTV.
I envy you.

How long? Well, I completely gave up on New music (from America) when Britteny Spears & NSync were still new, so I'd say that music died for me 10 or 12 years ago. Other countries have good stuff though. Eventually you just stop caring about the lyrics & they become the least important thing.

Music's not dead, it's just in a coma. There's a bunch of tubes injecting Radiohead into its body, keeping it alive.

Since us hipsters seem woefully underrepresented around these parts, I figure I should throw a few songs out there:

There's so much enjoyable music out there to discover. 2010 has been seriously amazing so far.

Ah, there's always some young turk who thinks "music has died" or whatever. Here's a secret: pop music was always terrible.
There were exceptions, but by and large music quality has remained fairly consistent for most of the twentieth century. Just look harder.

You're just looking in the wrong place. Find a genre of music you enjoy, then search only for that. For me, that genre is Symphonic Metal. As of now, I have a 'big 4' of terrific Symphonic Metal bands: Nightwish, Epica, Krypteria, and Within Temptation.
I already listen to two of them, but I haven't gotten around to Epica, and never heard of Krypteria.

If you like your symphonic metal with heavy doses of fantasy imagery, I might recommend Rhapsody of Fire.
I'm fairly certain I've already been recommended that band; maybe even by you.
Heh, probably. I seem to recall giving a few such recommendations (were you the one looking for metal bands with female lead vocalists?).

Epica has been terrific throughout all their Albums, and Krypteria is quite good, though they're at their best in the first few albums.

..ooh, gothic!

*listens to past first chorus*

Slower than I usually go for, but still nice. I'll listen to the whole thing when I wake up (quarter-past one in the morning, here).

...oh hell yes. I'd better finish listening in the morning, or I'll be too wired to sleep!
Nice! That Epica song was enough to wet my appetite. I want moar! I'll be checking it out when the sun (and I) comes up. Good night peeps, thanks for the tip.

Also: Tarja is awesome. The break in nightwish is probably the greatest tragedy in the metal scene I can think of :\

Soundgarden got back together recently. Also Bang Comaro is the definition of Classic rock homage. The Strokes, The White Stripes, Slipknot, Korn, Dinosaur Jr, Arctic Monkeys, The Fratellis, etc.

Pointless discussion is pointless. Just because most mainstream crap is . . . crap that doesn't mean that:

A) All new artists are crap. They just are underground or whatever.

B) Older music stops existing. Why listen to newer crap when I can just listen to the Zep or other good musicians from the past.

It isn't, at least here in toronto, we have the most prolific new rock scene in north America :p

Here is an interesting indie band you probably won't like, but I found worth a listen.

You can find good music, you just need to know what your definition of good is, first.
w00t! Someone else who knows of Krypteria! Such a good band.
