Anyone smashing on rap's simply never heard the likes of guys like Del, Edan and Aesop Rock before.
Or doesn't care for the simplistic patterns, mainstream examples that personify objectionable behaviour, and contain messages that aren't relevant to a given individual? I don't like rap because I don't like it, and the vast numbers of "no, man, 'X' will totally change your mind" examples have yet to even come close to changing my mind.

OT: Considering I try to listen to as little mainstream radio as possible, I'd have to say that most top40/pop right now probably qualifies, since all of it basically ends up being relatively painless audio filler. Some of it is actually painful to listen to, though.
And yet the three people I listed don't display any of the tendencies you're talking about. Don't try to shroud your close-mindedness in eloquence. You've heard bad rap on the radio and made the blanket assumption that it must represent everything rap brings. You've never heard 3030, which is critical of everything you complained about too.

Before anyone asks...

Owl City
Hannah Montana
Justine Beiber

(add in most rap and most screamo)

EDIT: I made this post to get others opinions because one of my friends was listening to people scream into a mic and call it music, then tell me my piano playing sucks and was noise.

EDIT 2: I was playing Bowsers Castle from Super Mario World mixed with Bloody Tears from Castlevania II
I only like vanilla Twilight by Owl City..

I hate rap, country, and western, and most pop songs...

I can enjoy classical music immensly, but my main true musical love is metal

Or, you know, I smash on rap because I simply don't like? Show me a new artist I'll say the very same thing. It's a preference of taste. Don't bash people from their taste in music

Basically all club/grind R&B,
and dubstep(that's because it basically is though)

as far as "screamo" goes. I hate the lighter bands of the genre but if you go into things such as "hardcore" "Deathcore" Grindcore, progressive/mathcore, ect. I find it to be so much more than just noise. Just because it's fast and not easy to understand time signatures and what not, does not take away from the fact that it takes SOO much talent to play. That is enough for me to keep from thinking of it as noise, of course that is just an opinion and not a statement of correctness.

Just because I don't like it doesn't mean it's not music.

But really, really, really heavy metal is just noise. Once you get past the level of Devildriver it starts getting a little shit.

Heavy, and I mean heavy metal.

Average Death metal band:

Drums:BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOOMBOOOMBOOMBOOM
Guitar:NUNUNUNUNNUNNUNNUNUNUNUN
Bass: *drowned out by other instruments*
Singer: WOOOOORG! WOOOOOOOOOAAARG! WOOOOORG!
Fan: Fuck Yeah!
Me: What the fuck? Turn that shit off!
All I can say to this is you're not listening to it right.

Listen to the lyrics of Amon Amarth, or many other metal bands. Alot of people smply hear the screaming, and they make it out to be noise. You can't hear the riffs, the chords, the skill of the drummer, snd you can usually hear the bassist too\

Iron Maiden is Noise? Hammerfall, Storm Warrior, Dream Evil, Kamelot?

Listen to those bands? Sure they're power metal, but with HUGE heavy metal influences... Lyrics and meanings...

Gotta say I love the "Just because you don't like it doens't make it music... But heavy metal is just noise"

Ugh, really? I knew reading the responses to this topic would make me angry but I did it anyway so I can't say I was disappointed as such but seriously people, there are some pretty uninformed answers here.

I'm not going to attempt defending every genre named here but metal is getting a real bashing and I don't think that's fair. Growled vocals are used to create an atmosphere of harshness and aggression. Blastbeat drumming is used for the same reason. These artists are going for a particular effect and for the most part they succeed. Bands like Darkthrone, Immortal, Cannibal Corpse, Vader, Pig Destroyer etc aren't made for easy listening. They are supposed to be as guttural, threatening and primal as possible. So what if you can't hear the actual lyrics. You might not understand the lyrics in a foreign language either but it wouldn't suddenly be relegated to noise. Neither would an instrumental piece. The voice is an instrument just like any other and some people like using their voice for a different effect that just straight singing. Think of growling as simply using a different effects setting on a guitar to achieve a different feel.

Also for anybody who thinks people only growl because they can't sing here is a list of a few bands who have vocalists who do both very well: Opeth, Scar Symmetry (old stuff), Amorphis, Orphaned Land and Ghost Brigade.

No music is noise. It is all an attempt to capture a certain emotion and/or idea. Whether it achieves it is down to the person listening but just because you don't like something doesn't make it noise. I'll leave it up to others to defend Rap and Dubstep etc because they are genres I don't listen to much but I'm sure as hell not going to call them noise just because I don't necessarily get the appeal.

I guess what I'm trying to say is show some respect and stop commenting on something you've had very little exposure to and thus gained no understanding of.
