I don't understand a word of it, and neither do you!

Also, seconding/thirding/fourthing/whatever The Pillows and Yoko Kanno.

I've really taken to Movits! even though I don't speak Swedish. This video really helped, I just loved the confused looks from some of those Texans (although I imagine the reaction would be the same in most US cities.)

Romanian:

About 1/3 of my mp3 player's contents are in a language other than English. Russian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese...

Most of them are Spanish or German songs though, and they don't count, 'cause I can understand them.

[Edit]I feel I should clarify that when I say I like German music, I'm referring to Wir Sind Helden, Muenchner Freiheit, Die Prinzen... frikin' Schnuffel... just about anything except Rammstein.

Just because I'm sick of everyone saying Rammstein as if they're the only band that exists in Germany. :p

without having read this i predict a lot of Rammstein, Gangnam style and people being "hohohoho, this can't be english"
*reads*

oh i was right

and i generally prefer to understand the language or having my music without vocals.

And Caramelldansen is damn catchy.

That was gonna be mine. My music selection almost entirely consists of downtuned guitars, breakdowns and growling and screaming ahoy, but I fucking love this song so goddamn much.

You also stole my Rammstein choice, damn it.

I guess I could say Maximum the Hormone, then. I quite like some of their stuff. I understand nothing of Japanese.

Yeah, only the chorus isn't understandable, but it's so pretty I decide it counts anyway.

Aside from Japanese stuff and the random German songs, I was pleasantly surprised by the Christopher Tin album Calling All Dawns on the Humble Music Bundle. I usually dislike classical music, but this, this was awesome in so many different ways!

I could list many, but I'm going to stick to just one:

Niyaz.

It's a world band comprised of three members. Azam Ali; a world-renowned composer and vocalist with a haunting voice. Loga Ramin Torkian; a multi-instrumentalist and composer. And, Carmen Rizzo; a very gifted composer/remixer.

These three musicians are fantastically talented. I've yet to hear a song of theirs that wasn't in the very least decent.

Yet, I can't understand a single word spoken in most of them. This is because they are all song in varied languages; ranging from Urdu, Arabic, Turkish, etc, etc. Many of their lyrics are taken from ancient poetry or parables.

I like stuff in Japanese, Russian, and Kajiuran (thanks to years of watching anime). I also enjoy classical music with dramatic Latin choirs like "O Fortuna." Then there's the dragon language from Skyrim, which works quite well with an orchestra.

Now here's for one of my favourite bands and my single biggest guilty pleasure

Guess which is the guilty pleasure and the language in the first song.

I listen to a lot of German industrial (Oomph), folk metal (Korpiklaani, In Extremo), Norwegian (Dimmu or hell, Therion has a number of songs in Norwegian) and not to mention my favorite Portuguese band Moonspell. I may not understand them but I like the songs and looking up translations for said songs.

Most of the Moonspell I've got is in English. Same with my Dimmu...

But anyway

I have no idea what they were saying when they were speaking Icelandic. Then they started singing in a made up language. Now I think they switched back to Icelandic? I'd rather not know the lyrics. It loses the air of mystery that way. They're also the only band where I could say that I felt a almost spiritual serenity while listening to (though that only happened once a while ago).

Boom... This, definitely!

They make music that literally NOONE can understand! They do raise a good point though... in shoegazer, and post-rock, why do we need lyrics? Why can't the voice just be another instrument? One that is versatile, and can make a lot of interesting noises!

Other than that, I listen to Rammstein...! And there are probably a lot more, but as most of my music I don't listen to for the lyrics, I have never really noticed!

On one hand, I really love The Pillows.
On the other hand, I know enough Japanese that it might not count.
On the third hand, The Pillows are actually mostly singing random words, it's one of those "vocals as an instrument" bands, so understanding them isn't really necessary to begin with.

My favorites:

And the openings to anime tend to be really catchy tunes even if you dont understand it.

OH MY GOD! SOMEBODY ELSE REMEMBERS OUTLAW STAR!!

My all-time favorite (as is, I like it more than songs in English) is Japanese. My favorite bands at the moment (even if theirs is up) include Seikima II, Moi Dix Mois, (the fictional) Detroit Metal City, (the not quite as fictional) Hatsune Miku, Malice Mizer, The Gazzette, Dir En Grey, Momoiro Clover Z, Maximum the Hormone and, X-Japan.

I like some of the Korean pop my GF has got me to listen to as well like Shinee.
