the catholic church has a rating system like this for movies; although, it was more a sliding scale of how sinful it was, not upholding anything. This ESRA should do the same thing, as i would like to seem them actually find positive religious values for it.

There are more but I can't be bothered. Christians have been doing this since the media came to prominence. That a religion that claims under its auspices over a billion people is acknowledging a component of modernity is progress, even if we as gamers may ultimately disagree with the results.

As an aside, I liked "Jesus in Space" better when it was called Mass Effect.

i didnt look at all the sites just the last one,

that has got to be a troll site, i couldent stop laughing while reading the reviews!

lol@ bully teaches boys to be homosexuals xD
im a christian and all (flamesheild up!) but these "hardcore" christian people who think everything is evil makes me feel ashamed lol

Poe's Law. I remember people actually saying that Bully promotes homosexuality, even if that last one is a troll site, its an argument that has appeared in Christian Media.

Why "Muslims" and not "A corporation in Dubai"? Geez. I'm sure there is a committee of Muslims out there, that meets every Friday, and includes every single Muslim in the world (or they send a representative), and they plan this crap out. >.> This reminds me of the Gay Bandido's.

Sometimes things like these remind me that Muslims basically are Christians.

Don't tell to either of them I said that though, they'll be furious!
RAAAHHH!!! I HEARD YOUS!!!

No, really, that's the truth. The only thing we differ on is the Godhood of Christ and the validity of Muhammed's final truth. (Sorry if I misspelled- I'm terrible at names.)

As long as it's voluntary, I have no problem. What's with all the Islamophobia in the thread? You don't judge the many for the fuckups of the few.

Countries should not be run with the influence of religion, and morality not based from it.

It hardly different from our system considering how much they end up beeing pigeonholed by conservative watchdog groups anyway.
Religion stifles art yet again,
If we could only get around to destroying it ...

Christianmoviereviews.com is simular, and quite frankly offensive as a Catholic, saying that Balto 2: Wolfs Quest shouldn't be shown to children because it features nature worship, so really it pushes all the wrong kinds of morality. I'd only expect this to be the same, saying things that feature other religions (particularly polytheism with Muslims) as morally wrong. Besides I think non-violence is a big part of the Muslim belief, so that really discredits most games as morally objectionable anyways.

Well, I suppose religious zealots trying to censor video games pretty much come with the package of civilization. Though we share many different languages, countries, and creeds, we can all agree on this: Religious fundamentalists, be they Christian or Muslim, trying to censor valid forms of expression is never a good thing.

You fucked up the quote tags. Irrespective, I try not to be down on anyone for their beliefs, in so far as their tolerant of mine, but when it comes to censorship regarding a specific groups beliefs being superimposed to the rest of us, that's pretty much where I lose my sense of humor.

The last one's a poe's law site. It's serious satire that is easily mistaken as a real site.

seriously, we are suppose to trust a group of people to rate games who seem to be okay with their people blowing up buses full of jewish women and children, that's rich indeed and the irony is laughable and yeah I know I will be reported for this post, do not care

This could get ridiculous if the religious elements get too restrictive. E.g. Mario not allowed due to Princess Peach's refusal to wear a veil, etc.

Hopefully, situations like this will be avoided through clear thinking and all that, but who am I kidding, people will be people.
as was noted above, muslims gonna mus.

It would be unless, in a lot of the world, religious values and social values were the same thing (oh,wait). So, for a place like Iran or the UAE, it really is just giving a rating based on what the local values are. Not unlike the ESRB in the western world. What I think I'm saying is: everyone grow a pair and stop getting in a tizzy whenever someone's morality is informed by their religion.
I don't think it's as much the fact that the social values are motivated by religion as it's what the social values are which is sparking debate and criticism.

If a religious scripture describing the views of a god said "look at the declaration of human rights and live by it" (or something to that effect), I doubt many here would get pissed that such values were religiously motivated, it's just that the canonical scriptures describing the views of most gods say something else entirely...

There's cultural relativism - all good and well - and there's ethical relativism which is considerably less uncontroversial.
You are incorrectly assuming that there is one universal idea of what is and isn't ethical, and that culturally held values don't have any effect on ethics.

Particularly since Dubai isn't exactly a hot-bed of Muslim extremists. When I think Dubai, I picture super-rich, overly self-indulgent people, who shop at sci-sci designer boutiques and were buying Bentleys and Ferraris before they'd bothered to fully pave over all that sand with some asphalt.

I doubt the average Emirati knows anything about blowing up buses full of Jewish women and children. They're way too busy trying to color-coordinate the red and green of Gucci with the brown of Louis Vuitton to involve themselves in any of that nonsense.
