May I ask what killed her?

Regardless, you have my condolences.
Thanks.

I'm not really sure.

She looked like she was losing control of the left side of her body, the vet said it could have been a slipped disk or a trapped nerve or a tumour in her spine.

The only way to find out was for her to have an MRI, which would have cost £1,000, and then a further £2,000 if she needed an operation.

She was old (around 16 years old) and I doubt an operation would have really improved her standard of life.

She had a good run.
My deepest condolences...

sixteen years old?

Jesus Christ, that's old for a dog, some cats don't even live that long.

My nan's dog died about ten years ago, and she was thirteen or so, twisted stomach I think.

It was really sad as well, when my grandad was making a shallow grave for her and dumping her lifeless body in a bin bag into that hole, I never felt so sad in all my life. When my uncle found out that she was dead, he locked himself in the bathroom sobbing for hours, never saw him like that, or since.

It's always a sad time, but be happy that she is not in pain anymore, and she can rest easy, as I guess, she has had a full life, and has been given lots of love, and has given you and you're family lots of great memories over the years.

Ah, I feel ya. I lost my dog on Christmas Eve due to a snake bite. We don't live in the city, but in six years of living where we do, we didn't have one snake. We finally do, and I lose the dog that I bonded most with out of all of my dogs. On Christmas Bloody Eve.

And I wasn't even home to say goodbye, being at my girlfriend's house, so I was told over the phone. Not easy, losing a dog I've loved for seven years, when she could have easily hit 18 years old.

So yeah, I know how you feel. Hope you'll feel better soon enough mate.

I know how you feel.
The vet put my cat to sleep the other month, he was as old as I am, I had known him for my entire life.
It was truly sad, and I cried for the whole day, I can't think about it too much but I know that he lived a full life full of love and that's all any of us can ever wish for.

My condolences, dude :/

I used to have a cat and a dog, miss 'em both. I feel you, buddy.

Cat went out like a fighter though. He had control of my entire neighborhood before a coyote attacked him. No joke.

He died about a year later. Fuckin' badass.

R.I.P. Guido.

And my dog, too, I guess, but he was more the comic relief :p

She was a stubborn old git, even last night she gave no sign that anything was wrong, she was a bit wonky on her feet, but she seemed happy.

In fact, it was the most active she had been all day, uncharacteristically so, since she usually settles down at night.

Yeah, I've nostalgia'd a few people lately with home movies...
Anyway she is a very nice dog, does she play fetch? I never had a dog that played fetch. My two previous dogs, they were wheatens named Brody and Riley, were brothers and brody just sort of collapsed for his last two years after Riley passed on. We have their ashes in a little box with their paw prints indented on the top. Hope Ammy's friend is named Oki.

Sorry to hear that man. I hope that it was a natural passing. While it certainly sucks either way, I know from experience that making the call to put a beloved friend down is one of the most difficult, heart wrenching decisions a person will ever have to make (we had to put my dog of 12 years down in September. It really sucked).

I'm not much of a religious person anymore, but if there it one thing that keeps me believing in Heaven, this story is it:

... Guido and Scout: Neighborhood Watch.

It'd be one of those shows with an inexplicably sad ending.

But so awesome...

I... I gotta go...

Write... some stuff...

My last dog was named Sophie, a kelpie. My parents had her since before I was born, as a farm dog back when my dad was a farm manager. She was 18 when she died.
I also used to have a black cat named Mog who moved into our house when our neighbors moved away. He used to ambush dogs as they walked past the front of our house. He was about 14 when he died.

My current dog is also a Schnoodle! His name is Beau. He's pretty silly but very cute.

She plays fetch like a boss :D

Rosie never liked playing fetch, if I threw something, she just gave me a look as if to say 'the fuck you doin' boy? I ain't running after no stick.'

Here's my doggy back when he had his collar on, green and fashionable of course:

Sadly we lost the little bugger Febrary 2011 when he was only six, almost a year ago now. My thoughts go out to you man, losing my dog was a painful experience. I just didn't expect to hit me as hard as it did.

Rest in peace doggies everywhere.

I totally feel for you. My dog died a few years back. As an only child, my dog, who was around since before I was, was great company, and I was very sad when he died too. Took me at least a year to get over him. I still can get choked up sometimes when I think about him right before he died too much. We had to take him to the humane society... Well, I sincerely wish you well. I know it's tough losing a pet, and for many people, it's the same as losing a family member, but I hope you will be able to move on someday and remember the good times with him/her and be happy again.

Sorry to hear of your loss. It is never easier to know when your pet's time is up.

I had a dog put down last year because she was starting to lose the ability to stand on her back legs. I knew in my mind I couldn't cope with seeing my dog die before me, so I gave her a kiss on the head before she went on her final trip. She was 14 years old. Even now, thinking of her hurts somewhat, but I know it would have been more painful to see her suffer.

Since then, my family now have two puppies to roam around the backyard and, while they cannot replace my old dog, I am glad they are in my life.

Jeez... well my condolences daystar. In my short lifetime I've had to go through two dog's deaths. I hope you had some fun with her before she passed away. I have a new one now, only two years old and things have been okay. Anyway I know you must be going through some hard times but just remember that things always get better eventually.
Thanks man.

This is the death of my second dog, the first was around 1998.

My third dog is on her lonesome now, but I can see a new puppy coming into the house in the future.

I love dogs, the years you spend with them are well worth the heart break.
I know, the one thing that always gets me is that I feel guilty getting a new one. It makes them feel expendable to me, if you know where I'm coming from. Sometimes while we were debating about getting a new dog I thought that I'd never want to get a dog again because I knew that it would be inevitable I'd have to go through that again.

Yeah, I can't help that we've got into a bad habit.

We got our second dog (Rosie) when my first dog was quite old, so when she died, Rosie went into depression, so we got another dog which perked her right up.

My third dog hasn't noticed yet and I'm not sure if she will, but is she does, we'll probably get another puppy, and the cycle continues. Old dogs dying, leaving the young ones to mourn then puppies brought in to cheer up the dogs left behind etc etc.

I think we may end up getting two puppies, to try and break the cycle.
This is probably really uncalled for but it reminds me of "the cycle of kitties" Anyway I hope if you do get a new dog that you make sure to love and spend as much time with them as you can. Did you have a particular breed in mind?
Oh wow, haven't seen Home Movies in a long time.

Well my third dog, Sapphire, is a Weimaraner, here she is.

They're a lovely breed, so we may end up getting a couple of puppies.

I will call one of them Ammy and will crush all who oppose me.
Sorry for the double post, but wow. I'm rather surprised to see someone else who had a weimaraner as well. That was the same dog I used to have. He lived to be about 16. And yep, they are a very nice looking breed of dog. That's probably why people like to dress them up in frivolous clothes for magazines and such XD

Yeah, our family lost both of our dogs last year, Snoopy and Spike, withing 2 days of each other. The former being miserable from not being able to see, problems with his liver, and just being depressed. This influenced the descision to put him down. The latter having cancer, and he did not have much time left. I cried quite a bit. Snoopy had been around for as long as I have, and Spike wasn't very old. They were both male malteses. For a while when I got back from home it just felt really sad and that something was missing.

Hope you dealing with it well Daystar. :)

My mother bought her a purple collar to replace her leather one, because, and I'm not making this up.

You have my condolences and I wish you have a calm couple of next days.
I, so far, have had two hamsters. Muffin, my first one, had a little debacle where he got out of his ball (so he could run around) and climbed into the air vents. We found him three days later and got him back into his cell. It was good, until he found a way to spin open the cage lid and we haven't seen him since. The little muffinhead.
My second one, S'morez was silly. One night, he was acting all rapacious and running around, so I tried to pet him and he ran away (All of his supplies were full). After he ignored me, I said "Fine, I'll leave you alone for a while." And then I went off to hang out at a friend's house for a night. And when I came back... he was cold in the corner I had last tried to pet him.
We tried the warming up thing other people had tried but... no go.

Losing pets is always hard, and its best to let the (manly) tears flow.
