In my first total 24 hours of online gaming in the community of the PSN:

I met only one pre-teen/teen kid with a microphone out of my three games below.
In Soul Calibur IV, people gave me tips, complemented me on my wins, I made four friends almost instantly.
In Killzone 2, I made about another six friends. Teamwork was used in almost every match. I stayed with the same squad for several hours. Win or lose, we had fun.
In Uncharted 2, laughs were passed left and right. Even when I was the only one alive and I died, they still treated me like a human being.

There are less kids on the PSN because parents didn't want to spend the extra on a PS3. So, they got the next best thing. In fact, my parents said they would have done the same thing but I said I'd rather have the Wii over a 360 so my wish was granted.

And if anyone dare quotes me on saying the "XBL community is more fun! It's why we like to sing randomly!" Then are you for real? You must be a very lonely and single person IRL.

Maturity is a must. Being able to handle vulgar language. Working together as a team is grand and fun.

I recently bought MAG but I have yet to try it. I hear that a bit of times, people don't like to work together, but who knows.
I agree the PS3 players seem more mature than the xbox 360 players.
MAG is fun, just try to have some friends on your team.
It helps.
The Xbox isn't that bad, and the people on there aren't all dicks.
I have friends IRL who play Xbox, but that doesn't make them dicks by extension.
Personally, I haven't picked up a controller which isn't guitar shaped without having a mate to play with for two or three months.

Im not saying xbox live is bad. Im just saying that I have met more kids on xbox live than PSN. It also helps to have friends you know to play with.

Okay.
I got my Xbox at the tender age of thirteen, personally.
So I guess I am amongst the guilty parties.

I've yet to find a good online gaming community, why I don't even bother and online is not a feature to me. Rather just go to my friends place.
Every person in the forum collectively died inside at that comment.
Way to make us feel loved.
Misunderstanding here, I meant a community of playing games with, not discussing games with.

The Escapist is top notch in that regard, and if someone here wanted to play something on PSN I'd give it a shot.

Well, I had good times and bad on Xbox live, the first game I played on there was DOA4, and most people were pretty cool, usually there was only one douchebag in the same room. But being the sportsman like gamer I typically am I rarely had any issues with bad talk...Though the one time I was playing against an 8-10 year old...There voice just made me want to end the match as quickly and cruelly as possible.

Beyond that I think the worst times on Xbox live were during any match of any Halo game (Ok, I mean 2 or 3), only because you hear the sounds of defeat (Examples: "FUCKING NOOB!" "CAMPER WHORE!" "WHAT THE FUCK?!" (In caps to show added anger and bitchiness.)) and of course many face humpers.

But I got bored of that and of people on my own team killing me (I wish those assholes on Lost Planet could have see me glaring at them.), and of course I'm usually broke and don't see the point in paying for Live when I own a PS3 that does basically the same thing for free.

It also depends what game you play as well. I play PC and it's the same, though I've never seen anything like that. I've found some nobs but generally people are ok, having played both Bad Company 2 and Men of War though, there is a lot more teamwork in the latter, and a lot more mature people. So yeah, no offence, but it being Halo or something like that, you're gonna get nobs there, good people, but a lot of nobs too.

I use this as an example to why I don't really care much for the Xbox Live community.
That was funny has hell, it made my night.

OT: I figure as long as you mostly play ranked games and mute most kids it isn't that bad.

My first 5 hours was actually at my friend's house. I've never gotten it myself, but he had it. We were going to play Halo 3, then Grand Theft Auto 4. It was cut short by a power outage, but while it lasted, 4 people sang, 5 people said they were high, and 10 12-year olds said fag every 3 minutes. At least GTA was slightly better in that department.

The only reason I don't like Xbox Live is that I seem to get more lag than on other platforms.
Then again, I never have the volume high enough to hear what people are saying. After this thread, I don't intend to turn it up any time soon.

I'll admit.
I'm someone who might call someone gay, or occasional fag if they piss me off online.
Does this mean I am homophobic? No.
Does it mean I honestly think that the person I am calling the previously mentioned names are in fact homosexual? No.

In this day and age its a common thing to call people when you want to be offensive. For people to turn and say OMG YOUR PURE EVIL [or things to that extent, I'm being sarcastic] is pathetic, I'm sure you've called someone something offensive in your time during online gaming, whether it be via voicecoms or text chat.

Anyway, back OT:

I generally enjoy X-Box Live. Sure, you do get some idiots on there, but if you step outside into the real world, you'll find the world is full of idiots too. It's just on the internet, you have more chance running into them because there aren't any consequences.
