I use this as an example to why I don't really care much for the Xbox Live community.
Why does that hate happen? Because live is full of pubescent nerds, who make fun of Gays being insecure in their own sexuality. Only a guy who is insecure with himself will need to be racist, sexist or homophobic. (Same with girls but vice-versa)
Or because the person who makes that name is a troll/attention whore?
Even if he was, he didn't provoke them. They just started acting that way. Serious or not, he proved a point about live. There are a lot of bigots on there.

You're going to get that anywhere you go. Hate to break it to you.
I'm on PC, XBL, PSN and Wii and you meet stupid people all the time.

But if you're bothered by teamwork, good fucking luck finding good teammates on ANY sort of system. Good teammates are a very rare commodity. On PSN you get douches in MAG who want to run ahead and say "Fuck you" to the squad (assholes). Also, is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of people yell for no reason?
I have made a few good friends on PSN though. :)

I think XBL has such a bad rep because everyone had mics. Yes, there are a lot of young kids on it, but I use the blessed mute button and never hear them again. I will agree, there are a lot of rotten apples on XBL, but I've made many great friends and have known some for two years and have even met some.

I can't speak for the Wii community, since most people don't talk... And the Wii speaks sucks so hard that I just turn off mic volume.

On the PC, good luck trying to find a person who will level grind with you, selfish fucker, I wanna be level 50 in City of Heroes. Whiny bastards.

Anywho, I think I got waaaaayyyy off track. The point is, I would give anything more than one try. I think out of Wii, PSN and XBL, XBL is my favorite, I don't mind paying for it because it's always been very reliable and I've never had any sort of problems.

Some hate belongs on the payment required for a gold account. They complain about Microsoft requiring to charge, although they don't think about how much they spend repairing Red Ring of Death. Most of the rest is on the little kids when playing any popular first person shooter such as Halo 3, Gears of War 2, or Modern Warfare 2. They will yell and complain at/about you for killing them and "ruining their nuke." Although few people ignore the kids and mute them, many will counter back with cursing and trash talk. It would be better if people realized that there is a mute option while playing on Xbox Live and also realized that they can submit a player review to have a lesser chance of playing with them. Oh well, you can do many things, but you can't fix stupid.

If you're looking for a decent gaming community, then it's hard to go wrong with the players of Team Fortress 2. The teamwork's not always there (TEAM NO MEDICS IS A GO!), but they behave themselves (for the most part, that is).

Now that really angers me! I have friends on World of Warcraft and Xbox Live who are openly gay. They're cool and fun people to game with. But there's the one game lobby every now and then with the hateful bastard and it pisses me off to no end.

It's a double edged sword in my opinion. Even though there's the fact that you WILL be called a gay Jewish black person at least once in your XBox experience, there's always chances that you might stumble onto something like this.

OMG hilarious. My boyfriend and I watched that. I wish I could have been there to hear that little kid. He better be glad I'm not his mom though, I'd beat he's cursing little ass off the xbox

It's fun except when you meet the third grader who listens a little too intently to his drunken father

Borderlands and Bioshock? Kinda tame for the communities that play online. Throw yourself in the deep end and have a go at MW2 or Halo 3.

Honestly though i like XBL despite some of its more annoying members, but that mute function is there for a reason.

Well, you aren't going to get the full experience from playing only 5 hours, you must understand that. It could go either way, the only way you're going to experience it the way others are is if you play it for a long amount of time.

I played it myself, when a mate lent me his console for a weekend. It was MW and Halo, so it wasn't the best. Lots of arrogance, lots of annoying people. Wasn't all bad, of course, but the bad bits stuck out. Namely one extremely racist guy who wouldn't shut up on a game of MW.
You also had the awesomeness of rocking it with me remember!

Oh yeah. Our one wasn't too bad actually. The one I'm talking about is when I was up in Dublin and my mate Arash gave me his 360 because I had nothing to do. I played on his account. Bloody hell, that wasn't great.

Our one was pretty interesting though. You speaking Spanish was funny.
Its not my fault, I had her as a teacher. Amanda on the mic was the best! goin in groups is the best way on live

Xbox live has its ups and downs. Its at its best when you are with people you know/people who you can tolerate. When playing by yourself you have the chance of being paired with a group of kids who do not know how to shut up. But that is what the mute button is made for.
All in all xbox live is enjoyable you just need to judge who you play with.

I have had my xbox for over three years and until now i have never had xbox live for various reasons... Being on the escapist forums in recent months have not exactly made me very willing to bother getting xbox live but i had a little extra cash so i got the cable and membership card necessary.

The first two hours i spent playing borderlands which is fun when people work TOGETHER but my experience wasn't that enjoyable when the only person with a mic sounds as young as my nephew and twice as annoying especially when he got in the gun turret and started blasting me while i was trying to get ammo..

After borderlands i was not very keen to try my hand at another match so i decided to try bioshock which was better experience at first because no body was speaking. Then i stopped to eat a little something and came back and another person had a mic active but he wasn't that bad to hear unless he sung...

Now i've seen a lot of posts that really put a lot of hate on xbox live and to be honest i didn't find it that bad.

So why all the hate on xbox live?

Edit- I don't get angered by people saying curse words, i usually laugh or just ignore/mute them.
I despise console online gaming because people are just general c**ts, that's all.

Play MW2. Whenever you get a kill, someone will be screaming and complaining about how whatever you did was cheap or you are a dirty modder or how you are Jewish or that your grandmother gave them sexual favors or something.

Really, 8/10s of the people on Live are 8 or dicks, the others are either nice people or they don't use a mic.

I usually mute everyone except for people I know. This works, as I almost NEVER get rage-ful.

they are all like dude you ****** everyone knows that the vector is the gayest while they are using the ump and that is what we call situational irony
I do the exact same whenever I play cod. Just mute everybody

I tried to play Borderlands online in a random party once and it was rubbish. Not the game, just the players who kept running off in different directions leaving us to get killed over and over. For co-op games on XBL/PSN/PC you're probably better off playing with friends, at least then you know they won't arse about (most of the time anyway)

For games like MW2, if I see someone has a headset icon next to their name I just mute them. There was someone in the pre-match lobby just singing down the mic, much to the annoyance of everyone. But on the whole XBL is pretty decent, and I haven't heard any racist 12 year olds on there recently.

The most popular shooters seem to be a who's who of the worst players on Live overall. As far as mic spamming, screaming, bigotry, and general douchebaggery go, it's hard to go an entire log-on session without dealing with it at least once.

In everything else I've ever played on Live overall, I don't really see bad behavior all that often at all.

I believe most of the hate is more towards CoD4 and 6 players more so than XBL in general. Most games have decent gaming communities (L4D, l4D2, Bioshock2, etc) but there tends to be a lot of irritating individuals on the ModernWarfare games.
