My first five hours on x-box live....

It's a double edged sword in my opinion. Even though there's the fact that you WILL be called a gay Jewish black person at least once in your XBox experience, there's always chances that you might stumble onto something like this.

Sounds like that kid need discipline. Remember when we were kids,
Remember how you'd sneak in home at 3 in the morning and dad would catch you. He'd Tie your arms and legs and punch you in the face, then get you on the ground and start kicking you in the spleen till you piss blood? Mum would run in screaming "Leave him alone he's only a boy"
And dad would scream back "GET OUTTA HERE ***** OR I"LL KICK YOUR ASS!!"
Then he'd chuck you in the car drive you to a dead end ally that smelt like piss and garbage and leave you there to die.
We called it discipline.....

Its just a simple thing that one person can ruin the entire lobby easily. But, it offers so much potential that it is worth it too put up with the more undesirable members, that doesn't make people not want to complain about it though...

I gotta say, the gayboy video, it really sounds to me that xxgayboyxx was being a giant fucking dick. A lot of the people talking sound like they're talking trash to him because he was talking trash (or at least baiting them) first.

And as far as the communities go, they are all pretty much equal. There are just as many belligerent idiots on PC as there are on PSN as there are on XBL. Xbox just hands out a free microphone to each person. I've played plenty of games on PC or PSN where the other guys were nigh-intolerable d-bags, with walls of profane text or endless callspam. It all really boils down to luck, unless you have a dedicated group who plays regularly.

Anything with online will have a veritable cascade of jerks, morons, and kiddies obscuring the people you actually want to interact with.

I really didn't have anything against X-box live until I tried to cancle it, did you know that the only way to cancle Xbox live is via the phone? I had no idea and it took me roughly 2 hours to manage to do it

If you want a good community get over here on the PC and pick up Enemy Territory Quake Wars, Very small community but its quality, Can buy it for around £4 these days, not even that old as well lol 2007.

I use this as an example to why I don't really care much for the Xbox Live community.

1. I'll admit that I thought the "Friendly Uncle" part was kind of funny.
2. Sony's smartest decision was not giving everyone a mic.

I believe most of the hate is more towards CoD4 and 6 players more so than XBL in general. Most games have decent gaming communities (L4D, l4D2, Bioshock2, etc) but there tends to be a lot of irritating individuals on the ModernWarfare games.

Yup its great, it means all the games I like only have mostly cool people because all the MW2 has most of the annoying people.

i always go on private chat with a friend, because the people on xbox live aren't that bad... so long as i can't hear them, and if they are an arse then i just kill them and laugh.

Xbox Live though has it's fair bunch of trolls from what I hear, the PS3 is probably worse though with free online and (free?) headsets.

I play very little online, but in my experience there are few jerks on PSN. They're significantly outnumbered. Also, I rarely hear anyone with a headset. They're not free.

Then again, I play very little precisely so I can avoid the jerks, and when someone starts glitching or cheating, I usually drop the game, so I don't know what goes on then.

I have had my xbox for over three years and until now i have never had xbox live for various reasons... Being on the escapist forums in recent months have not exactly made me very willing to bother getting xbox live but i had a little extra cash so i got the cable and membership card necessary.

The first two hours i spent playing borderlands which is fun when people work TOGETHER but my experience wasn't that enjoyable when the only person with a mic sounds as young as my nephew and twice as annoying especially when he got in the gun turret and started blasting me while i was trying to get ammo..

After borderlands i was not very keen to try my hand at another match so i decided to try bioshock which was better experience at first because no body was speaking. Then i stopped to eat a little something and came back and another person had a mic active but he wasn't that bad to hear unless he sung...

Now i've seen a lot of posts that really put a lot of hate on xbox live and to be honest i didn't find it that bad.

So why all the hate on xbox live?

Edit- I don't get angered by people saying curse words, i usually laugh or just ignore/mute them.

Despite what the elitist say, it is no worse than the PC community.
Actually, I would say the PC is far worse, because of the typing aspect of it. "lolololol u fag" is something I've seen in every single MW2 and COD 4 server i've been in on PC (not to menttion the huge amount of hackers, which automatically makes it far worse than XBL) Normally no one says anything on XBL FPS. If you talk enough sooner or later you will become friendly with a person or two.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is years old, and still has a few hundred people playing (as opposed to 0 on PC) and almost every game I've been in people have used voice communication and team work.

XBL does have its share of annoying people obviously, but once you get a friends list with some good guys you rarely even play with pubbers.

For one this is a video mash up of (probably a troll) provoking a reaction out of people. The video could be a collection of footage over months, and the guy could have said anything to these guys before he started recording to get them fired up.

Though if you are so easily offended you should probably stay off XBL anyway, and probably away from people in general.

Well unfortunately my time online has sucked. Maybe its the games I've played but I rarely can play online. Rock Band all I got was some annoying kids singing in my ear. Other games everyone is a mute. Idk maybe its the games I've picked or the fact that I'm using PSN but when I think of online gaming I've always had this idea in my head from watching Tech TV that everyone talked out strategies or something and had awesome code names and shit. Maybe that's just PC gaming. Could use some more friends on PSN though wink wink nudge nudge.

I absolutely LOVE xbox live.. some kids are morons but that's what the Mute button is for.
Not only does it kick serious ass for the ability to play/chat with friends.. but the ability to download games, game demos and Indie games (my personal favourite) is just amazing

If I really liked MW2 online and wanted to play it I'd probably be really annoyed with all the idiots on it but as it stands its great. I'm tempted to buy BadCompany2 but I'm not sure whats it like; is the single player good? ('cause I can't actually afford XBL right now, have to go without for a few weeks)

Pick a random 2 page thread here and see if you can't find a stupid post or a troll or a whatever you want to call them. That is what online is all about. It isn't console specific. Hell it isn't even just in games. And maybe if people started oh I dunno using the mute function on XBL there would be a lot less bitching going on! Jesus for all the bitching that some people do about it you would think they would have the common sense to use the tools provided.
