Hell, just give her ANY Final Fantasy game (except FFIX of course) and say, "See this? This is a quality JRPG. What you have been playing is pure shit."

Lesson learned.

Thats a quality JRPG? You want quality, give her Golden Sun.
Okay, FINE then... just VII and X then.

The terrifying thing is by dint of pure effort she's played pretty much everything on the market. I hop from one game to the next, finishing only the best of them. She plays like a machine. Game goes in. Get's completed. Goes out. She moves on to the next one. She completed Mother 3 today. How was it? "good" ARGH.

Edit: What's with the censorship? We're allowed to swear just not in topic titles? Awesome.

Decoy, I thought better of you.

Grow a pair.
Daaaaamn right.

So what if your girlfriend likes shitty games? is she cheating on you? You know the last two girls I dated who were gamers, turned out to be notorious skanks.
Appreciate what you got, and be glad she can connect to you on the "hey, I play video games" level. God forbid you be with someone who doesn't have such "refined" tastes such as yourself. I'm sure you think The Evil Dead series is an abomination against god and anyone who likes it is a moron?
It was. You are.

Army of Darkness however was awesome.

Update: This couch sure is comfy!

I actually like Ephemeral Fhantasia. Probably the hardest PS2 JRPG I played for the generation. The game was very unforgiving, yet the game was not completely linear so you could recruit the games heroes at your own pace. I liked that they took the time jump like in Majora's mask and even introduced me to their minigame which was guitar hero.

Good characters and lots to explore, lots to do outside the mainquest, also remember that this game was created one year after the PS2 launch where Dreamcast RPGs were being ported over and there was no Final Fantasy X either.
You must be more forgiving than I am. I rate that game as one of my most hated, and I played all the way through Grandia Extreme ::twitch::. But yeah, the guitar mini-game was so much fun, I would have liked them to just strip out all the other parts and just let me do that for the game. Majora's Mask is the right way to do a time repeating mechanic, Ephemeral Phantasia is the wrong way. Having lots to explore isn't a good thing when you're on a time limit. Yeah, have lots to explore, but I think in this case it would have been better to close things off at first so I wasn't wasting all of my time wondering if I'm supposed to be going to this store or if I should have been heading out to the bandits place, and whoops, missed my five minute window to recruit the busty chick. Nocturne is unforgiving, Ephemeral Phantasia is just cruel.

....Sorry, it's been a while since I've ranted on something that is completely silly to complain about with that "I'M RIGHT, YOU'RE ALL WRONG!!! BLEH!!!" manner. I kinda needed that. Pardon my snarkiness. XD

Quite. I'm totally going to burn her at the stake. Then I'm going to take over Jerusalem.

It is amazingly annoying to know that what you like is actually better but being unable to prove it. I experience similar exasperation with some of my friends music tastes.

See, I like Jrpg's, or at least did before I played Final Fantasy X, and it was so awful that it nearly killed me. Also Whats wrong with enjoying the story of a game? Also I hate Grand Theft Auto, so I'm not going to be the best giver of advice.

But the rest of the games you mention are very good Psychonaughs especially . Not to mention that this kind of stuff bothers me, So many people I know will only play Jrpgs and be totally disinterested in any other game.

A game that she actually might like, at least from what you'r telling me, is No More Heroes. This game is perfect for the slower paced gamer going to more hardcore style gaming. Not to mention that it caters to that audience. So you may want to suggest that.

Or, if its a visual style thing, see if you can track down Zone of the Enders, an under-appreciated game in every-way, and brilliant. The second one, Is actually one of my favorite games of all time. Not to mention both games have a very cool sound track, but substandard plots.

Also something you may need to be aware of and aren't. Is that she may not want to play those games with you, because she's afraid of embarrassing herself. This happened allot with girls i was dating and In the Groove, witch is a DDR clone but about 3 billion times better because you can use your own songs. And I later found that it was because they didn't want to embarrass themselves. So maybe try lending her a game. if all else fails try coming to some middle ground play a Jrp for awhile, if she agrees to play one of your shoot death kill murder repeat games, and keep an open mind, you may just enjoy yourself. Even thou its not likely with the current lineup of Jrpgs... sorry.

No more Heroes is for casual gamers? No more Heroes is profoundly hard.

To Lift it's not that I want her to play Halo or anything and it's not that our tastes are different. I'm not pimping one genre over another. I'm simply pointing out that our approach to games in general is different. She'll play any title within a certain genre (she does however branch out every now and again. She's been playing a lot of Little Big Planet lately) whereas I will play any game in any genre providing it's good.

That being said well done to all you mouth breathers who take what I say entirely literally and seriously, some of you even managed to type coherent sentences. Well done!

Sounds to me like you just don't like Japanese games. 'Course I'm a total Japanophile so I'm sort of at the other end of the spectrum, but....

I sentence you to 40+ years of playing nothing but Final Fantasy VII while listening to J-pop (the kind where the "diva" tries to speak English).

MUHUHAHAHAHAH!

That might be it actually. I'm a huge anime fan but everything that's came out lately (with the exception of Index) has kind of bugged me. Makes me regret all those Japanese lessons we went to.

We did actually get a few hours into Tales of Vesperia (with me playing the shitty second character) before the kid with the stupid hair was introduced. Sadly every time he opened his mouth it made me want to vomit so I had to quit.

We did however make it through Eternal Sonata together. It was a little disappointing but we had fun.

Sadly she can't/won't play Halo because first person games make her sick apparently.

I must admit I read the post and practically wet myself laughing. I mean if you could please tell me what I might think a good game is?

Ah yeah thats right, you can't, everyones personal taste in this matter is going to be different, so my advice is to grow up and get over yourself. She doesn't have the same opinions as you, nevermind, I'm sure it will happen alot over the course of your life that people will disagree with you.

Still, thank you for giving my saturday morning a hilarious start.

Wow. those are really bad voices. when i first saw the youtube video I figured whoever posted the video was just reading the monologue of the screen. It took me a minute to realize it was from the actual game. Red VS Blue has better voice acting.

Never mind the fact that the monologue made no sense, not only was it random and confusing, the structure and grammar were horrendous. Very reminiscent of "all your base... ect"

I've always been bummed that my girlfriend doesn't enjoy video games, now I'm beginning to wonder if this would be worse...

Albeit his complaint is a bit unfounded, he did need to get that off his chest. Let him rant, but Decoy... Be happy in what you got, don't ruin it for yourself or your girlfriend.
Best
