The fact that Pinkypie's hair reminded me of my psychotic ex helped me avoid any attachment to that show.

Yes, really.

I may just be projecting here, but this is what I think. I think all of these people, this entire section of the internet, have wanted to act this way for a very long time, but they've never had a reason to. Every time someone crops up who is a generally nice person some troll somewhere shoots them down. The internet just isn't the right place for individuals to tolerate others, because to be frank, the act of loving someone mostly requires that they love you back, and trolls don't often do that sort of thing. But then, here comes MLP, a massive standard to gather around for people like this. Suddenly there is an oasis, a beacon if you will, that everybody knows people like this can stand under. We know there's a whole community of people out there who will love and tolerate us back, so it's much easier to act in such a way to others.

Basically, as far as I've seen all the bronies on the internet were already waiting around to love and tolerate everyone, and they've just been waiting for a good excuse to do so. And that's what MLP is.
You know, this is the only post I have ever read (by anyone ever) that somewhat explains to me the reason people are so fanatical about this show. A very interesting take on it and I see your point.

I still can't watch the show though. Not my kind of thing at all, and this is coming from someone who has a Sex And the City box-set.
... yeah lol, I highly doubt this show would appeal to Sex and the City fans >.> (for the record I hate that show lol)

Also, I'm not explaining why people like the show, I'm explaining why it's changing the way they act and treat others. The reason they like it is because it's funny, it has good characters, good animation, good music, etc, you've probably heard all of this before.

Isn't that what the rise of Christianity is all about, except instead of trolls it was Jews.

Yeah, lol I know... what I was trying to say was I have no problem with men wanting to watch stuff that is considered to be 'girly'... but I still don't get MLP :D

Just because something is a fad doesn't mean it wont stay around for a while.
My dictionary's definition of fad: "an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, esp. one that is short-lived and without basis in the object's qualities".

So you are technically correct, but the word is most commonly used in a derogatory way. But of course now we're literally arguing semantics.

For once in my life I would actually like to see a GOOD pony thread. Not sense pointless nonsense that gets put up for no good reason! Seriously, if you have a question, just breifly join the pony group, ask it, we will answer to the best of our ability, and then you will have our answer. If you really do have an interesting topic to discuss, at least do some research first. That is all.

Dear ToastiestZombie,
today I learned that I do not watch MLP enough, because there is no other explanation for my mistake, though it only could happen because I am still busy converting the rest of my friends to MLP-ism

Aaand there we go.

This topic is sort of like saying "People who watch Power Rangers are more prone to see robot-dinosaurs as awesome." Of course they are, I didn't think that was a secret?
And I just happen to be in the robot-dinosaur and pony overlap zone.
ohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh it cannot get any better than that

just imagine if the ponies were like robots that could attach to each other, to become even more... pony.
the flutteritydashpinkiesparklejackspike-zord
the universe probably would explode in a gigantic rainbow-nova, and afterwards the remaining rainbow-hole would lead directly to equestria through a cupcake-tunnel

My opinion of your hypothesis is pretty low, unless you want to vastly expand the definition of brain-washing so that all acquired tastes count. If you are, then I suppose I can't really object beyond "Well, that's sorta dumb."

However, I saw this comment:

Besides, I feel some of the show's morals need to be brought up more often. Take the latest episode for instance. The lesson "respect your elders" is sadly overlooked in a society more obsessed with youth and beauty than wisdom and experience.

When has "respect your elders" ever been a good idea? The old are not a good standard of wisdom. In fact, being from the past, when we knew less, they might be more expected to be wrong on the bigger issues of life.
Old people should get just as much respect as anyone else - that is to say, however much they earn.

I said this in this thread last time that ponies are really more so a superficial branding or identity for people on the internet who aren't dicks. It's like a catalyst or a juggernaut for nice people to unite and support one another against the wretched hive of scum of villainy that is the internet. They need the phenomenon to be present, not just the show because being a brony is like code for: " I'm a person who actually acts like a person and not some sort of anonymous hateful scum on the internet." I still don't care for the show though, it's boring and there are far better things to indulge in. Like retsupurae and teamAVOlition. Actually liking stuff like that where people just seek out crap and belittle the people that made it might be why I don't like the show in question.

P.S. The show is pretty crap but I think it's wrong to prejudge anything. That's why I watched two episodes before going this is lame, If you prejudge things you miss stuff like this:

I don't think that guy was really going for a "Your elders know everything and can't be wrong" message. More a "Don't let old people waste away with you lot laughing at them because there old" sort of message. I see a lot of old people these days being treated like crap and practically not like a normal human, this guys message was probably just to treat them like an actual human instead of treating them like crap. The episode actually showed this in a way, one scene the younger ponies actually play with the old ponies sleeping body like a puppet because they don't want the old pony embarrasing them. That's acting a bit like a dick and later in the episode they learnt those sortsa things were wrong.

Ye who doth not knoweth what is under the guise of "love and tolerance" should be well informed before making such a statement, lest ye be misfortune enough to run into them before ye are well equipped.

Nah, I think it would be best to stick to My Awesome Retsupurae: Schaudenfreude is Magic. I'm not cut out for tolerating.

There is a "disturbing" amount of people with pony avatars in this thread. LOL

I have never watched that show, but I have saw the "opening" in some youtube video. Well, errr ... It's definitely for girls I can tell you that.

While I have watched Carebears as a kid, I'm not sure how this compares. Either way, I might be a little "too old for this shit".

I think his point was, most people don't listen (nor respect) the advice of their elders even when they should - when it's in their best interest.

Granted not all of them are worth listening too. But those that are, have nevertheless experienced more than you. Why would you not listen to someone who is more knowledgable than you? You can learn from their mistakes and gain from their experience.

A lot of young people seem to think that "old people" are "stuck in the past" when the reality is they are learning about the world just as much as they are - barring dementia; they perceive everything you perceive - it's just that they interpret the data acquired differently because they have a past knowledge in which they add to the interpretation process - they have more "sample points" in which to drawn conclusions from.

No one is asking you to blindly accept what your elders say, but there are a lot young people who just dismiss them out of hand.
I like to think of it as the "hubris of youth".

N00bi3s should know their place. :p

Let me guess. You watched the first two episodes? Those two are generally considered some of the worst episodes in the series. There more for people who like the series and want an origin story, not for new people. Still I liked that post until you said the show is crap, you think the show is crap. A sentence like "I think this show is not for me" would of been much better. Still, you didn't directly hate so I can give you that.

Actually I saw the one with the rainbow sky thing and the one where they go up the mountain to confront the dragon, which was totally rude of them. I mean they had no respect for him. Tolerance is a two way street and they should have tolerated his right to sleep on his property.

Yes but that dragon was basically covering the whole of Equestria in smoke! Which would probably choke and kill most of the ponies if it got bad. So they had every right to move that dragon. Also, you think that is a bad reason then go watch friendship is witchcraft. It's a fandub and in their dub of that episode they said the reason for moving the dragon was because the kids had nothing to throw rocks at. Also that dragon barely tolerated the ponies! He tried to burn them alive!
