(there is no queen mentioned and the princess is in charge so I assume she should be queen) send in something to properly deal with the scope of what is happening? She seems to either be extremely inattentive of her kingdom or have extreme confidence in 6 people who have never dealt with a dragon before. No the library helper one doesn't count.
Apparently that's because Hasbro's market research suggests that kids associate queens with evil and princesses with good, so they don't let their writers have queens as protagonists. That being said, my favorite (fanon) explanation is that Equestria (which I'm pretty sure is just a country) is in fact a diarchy (two rulers), and they both take the title "Princess" to reflect their equal status.

Also, Lauren Faust has said that they have limited precognitive abilities, so Celestia was probably pretty confident that everything would work out.

Brainwashing does seem a tad extreme, but it's nature is quite endearing, and it's quality is what brings extra audience (like many on this website).

I'm afraid you know to much, we can't allow you to leave this thread. You must become one with the herd...or DIE!

In all seriousness...I don't know how serious you're being. If at all. Though if you are, I'd say your simply over thinking it.

Tee hee. That's the second person who's brought up the brightness of the colour. I shan't rest until I give everyone on the Escapist a migrane! (Again, I'm suprised the burning incandescence of the infernal whiteness hasn't incinerated your retinas first)

-Mod edit: Please don't use bright colours, thanks!

My dictionary's definition of fad: "an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, esp. one that is short-lived and without basis in the object's qualities".

So you are technically correct, but the word is most commonly used in a derogatory way. But of course now we're literally arguing semantics.
I'm aware of that, but that's not really the point. So many fandoms could be described as fads, yet some of them have been around before some of the users here have been born. I don't really see what makes this fandom less legit, compared to others.

OT:
Like all other fandoms, the bronies will build up momentum up to the point where there is no new material, and then slowly shrink until you are left with a group of so fiercely loyal fans that they will claim themselves as such till they drop dead.

Please. I'd like you all to entertain this thought for a moment. Why do you think the brony fandom is less legit then other fandoms?

Ah yes, "My little pony". The so called television show which has gained a following of biblical proportions and has creeped into every corner of the internet. We have dismissed that claim.

The judges are still deiberating, but I'd say you stand a good chance of having just won the thread. Congratulations.

Please, do tell. It's rare when someone mentions Christianity, let alone Jesus, in a serious, positive tone on this site. So if you don't mind, please elaborate.

but seriously you only say this because we are a relativity new fanbase who fast spread can be attributed to the internet and globalization not mind control,
if star wars fans or trekkies were to begin their existence during this era would you not say the same thing of them?

I may have unintentionally set you up for disappointment, particularly in regard to being serious, but here goes:

I had a two and a half hour train ride after a friends graduation party in a different city. It was the last train going that way on a friday night, so drunks aplenty. I grabbed the first seat near the door and sat down. After about 10 minutes, shortly before the train would depart, this guy wearing a robe and turban gets on and starts doing vertical splits (I think that's what it's called) in front of each individual passenger; ending with me. Note that, because he was wearing a robe, he essentially flashed his underwear to everybody.

He then sat down in the chair across from me and told me:"I'm Jesus and I'm here to tell you oxygen is your mother and she loves you." To tell you the entire story of what happened in those two and a half hours (he was heading to the same city I was) would take really damn long, but the long and short of it is that he made a lot of insane claims (my favourite:"I could fly if I wanted to, but then the heads of all humans would explode simultaneously.") and kept going on about how all religions are one and you reap what you sow.

I know this may come across as me mocking this man, and I certainly didn't take most of the things he said seriously, but he also mentioned the Kingdom of Love and the Kingdom of Fear, stating that the actions of people who live their lives in the KoF (these 'Kingdoms' are ofcourse not physical places, but more like shared states of living amongst groups of people) will always have bad intent behind them and, as a result, frequently have bad consequences. Conversely, those who act out of love for their fellow humans are less likely to cause harm, more likely to take responsibility if they screw up and more honest.

I'm not saying I agree with him completely and I recall writing an e-mail to a friend explaining what had happened and calling him a nutbag, but many years have passed and I'm a much calmer, nicer, more tolerant and loving person now. Also, having seen the standup of Bill Hicks since then, I think I understand where he got the idea. I like to think the Kingdom of Love is an idea-place (this is probably not a real word) that exists in the hearts of all good people and those who choose to make it their home strive to maintaing and grow it. I guess I'm kind of a hippy, basically.

So, yeah, that's pretty much the abridged version of that story. In the end, the guy claiming to be Jesus whom I met didn't have much effect on me, but the sense that, nutty though he may have been, he had no ill intent towards anybody did leave some impression on me. I don't actually believe he was Jesus nor am I a Christian, but I don't think personal beliefs or claims should take away from anybodys message, if it's a good one. And I don't know the guys real name, so I don't have much choice other than to refer to him as Jesus.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention the best part. He eventually proclaimed me his second apostle to accompany him once he's announced his return and starts traveling the world to spread his message. The first apostle is apparently some guy called René who lives in the Phillipines.

I agree.

I am still under the firm belief that any day now, the characters will begin talking about the "Evil Power" and how they must destroy it.

Thankfully, myself and others who have resisted will be here to stop you mad bastards when the bombing starts.

I may just be projecting here, but this is what I think. I think all of these people, this entire section of the internet, have wanted to act this way for a very long time, but they've never had a reason to. Every time someone crops up who is a generally nice person some troll somewhere shoots them down. The internet just isn't the right place for individuals to tolerate others, because to be frank, the act of loving someone mostly requires that they love you back, and trolls don't often do that sort of thing. But then, here comes MLP, a massive standard to gather around for people like this. Suddenly there is an oasis, a beacon if you will, that everybody knows people like this can stand under. We know there's a whole community of people out there who will love and tolerate us back, so it's much easier to act in such a way to others.

Basically, as far as I've seen all the bronies on the internet were already waiting around to love and tolerate everyone, and they've just been waiting for a good excuse to do so. And that's what MLP is.
Isn't that what the rise of Christianity is all about, except instead of trolls it was Jews.
Sort of, except over the next few hundred years the Christians all lost sight of that and started being assholes. Which I hope doesn't happen to the brony fandom ...

I've been slacking off hanging out with my Brony friends on the Escapists, but I've had a whack of old games come back to life. I need to fix that.

Now for this brainwashing business. It is quite interesting in the fact that a whole new group of people who lived by the 'love and toleration' message of the show on the internet. Up until MLP FIM the internet was a pretty hostile place to venture. I think it didn't force change upon it's viewers, just brought out the nice side of them. And theres nothing wrong with that.

... yeah lol, I highly doubt this show would appeal to Sex and the City fans >.> (for the record I hate that show lol)

Also, I'm not explaining why people like the show, I'm explaining why it's changing the way they act and treat others. The reason they like it is because it's funny, it has good characters, good animation, good music, etc, you've probably heard all of this before.
Yeah, lol I know... what I was trying to say was I have no problem with men wanting to watch stuff that is considered to be 'girly'... but I still don't get MLP :D
I don't think anyone on this forum is stupid enough to fall into that gender roles bullshit, but I could be wrong ... I guess I like to think the Escapist community is better than that. I've always liked girly shows, all the slice-of-life animes and everything, because I've always liked cute things. I know a lot of guys don't, and that's fine with me, why shouldn't it be? But I don't think many people here would actually argue something like `only girls should watch that shit' because it's pretty obvious how fucking sexist that is. Generally that kind of argument comes from old conservative parents and grandparents, in my experience. So I don't even consider it most of the time.

But anyway. I can sit and tell you why I like MLP all day if you want, but I don't think it'll help. I can't make you `get' this show any more than you can make me `get' Sex and the City. We just have different tastes in television. And that's fine too. Or, I can't think of any reason it shouldn't be fine.
