I don't know why, but I can't get myself to hate the game. I still play it regularly, I love experimenting with weapon loadouts, hunting down other players, sometimes I even enjoy the chatter by other players (especially from my fellow Dutchmen, who are often so laughably stereotypical). Yes, I enjoy looking at rewards and enjoy hunting for them, for me that's part of the online experience, not an annoying drudge. Sure, the game isn't balanced and there are plenty of annoying fucks running around, but I'm not to bothered by that (thank God PSN has far less screaming kids).

Usually I don't like either shooters or online multiplayer, but for MW2 I'll happily make an exception. I know it's fashionable to hate MW2, but I won't take the bait.

since mw2 last went for a ride, ive een playing my old(er) collection, AssCreed2, Fable 2, fallout 3
i still have fun with it when i go on with friends, especially listening to a french guy talk then saying to a friend "hey dom i was JUST saying that! isnt that weird?" then he carries it on with "yeah literally just said exactly those words" the french guys still nattering on to his friend, probably saying exactly the same thing

Yeah, I played MW2 for like, five hours then thought, "you know, I could be doing something more productive, like using the toilet."

It's on the SNES???

Okay, tracking down a copy of that is another thing I can add to my list of things to do that are better than playing MW2.

It's practically grinding in disguise.
It IS grinding in disguise. There is no other way to level other than killing people.
At least with Battlefield you can level by supporting other players.

Some people like the grinding though.

I wouldn't know really about Modern Warfare 2, but on my old Xbox LIVE account I discovered I'd sunk nearly 60ish hours of my life into Bad Company 2, even though all achievements were nabbed and anything over level 25 was unlocked and then I deemed the rest to be just personal stat boosting, stats and Kill/death ratios being pointless in my eyes. I do know for a fact though 60 hours is nothing compared to the 500 the 1st in leaderboard has clocked.

I have somewhat toned down my online gaming to only be done with friends and my girlfriend now, even though BC2 has now had another couple of modes, maps, kits added, and with the upcoming Vietnam exapnsion I do feel that the grind may begin again.

Man, I had a bunch of people over for a movie last week? We totally played the fuck out of Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES until everyone arrived.

Lately, I've been doing MechWarrior 3 and Quake 2. Particularly liking Quake 2 now, since I can run it windowed on my 24" while using Skype, Facebook and Guitar Tab Editor. God, I love RAM.

Gotta agree with the OP here. I was really excelling on MW2. Then I got slightly worse, and it showed in my stats. Then my friends got better and beat my stats and constantly pointed it out to me. Then, just like the OP, during a game lobby, I suddenly realised that I hate this game. It represents everything that's wrong with the shooter genre right now. The constant camping, the -as Yahtzee once eloquently put "hooting dickholes" on Xbox LIVE which we are almost forced to listen to (yeah, I'm not stupid, I know there's a mute button, but I'd just rather listen to my friends in party chat), the randomness of the game. I guess it's only fun if you're the guy who's constantly playing 30-2 games. Even then I don't see the point of it all. I don't regret buying it. After all, it's a learning experience, and I did have some fun with the Spec Op missions.

OT: MW2 wasn't too bad for a while, but it just stopped being any fun when your reward for constantly grinding was to have it all reset. I know that other some games like to do this, but after getting to level 70 once, there isn't enough to make you want to do it again :/. The repetition just got boring, quick.

Nope, not at all. I had the same feeling, but when I was playing Assassins Creed 2. I was so near to the end, and the game kept dragging on. It had not become fun about 45 min prior to that point. And after I looked back, I felt the same with MW2 (which I never played online). I too cancelled my Liver subscription and now to play Hl2, again. Although Mercenaries was a fun game, except those retarded QTE's

About 5 weeks ago, I was playing Modern Warfare 2 online. I finished second with a 29-6 kill-death ratio. Then, while waiting at the pre-game screen (listening to asshats yammer about nukes...or something), it hit me... I hate this game.
It had gotten to feeling more like a second job than a way to relax. The best part was the period in between games: looking at rewards, playing with weapon customizations, but always feeling like I wouldn't be satisfied without the next gun attachment
There was nothing fun about it anymore.

So I shut it off and I haven't turned the game back on.

Instead, I started playing through the Ratchet & Clank Games on my PS2. Turning robots into giant chickens and promptly blowing the shit out of them reminded me that video games WERE once fun. I've completed R&C 1-3 to 100% again.

I was once a dedicated XBoxer: since the 360's release. I've now canceled my Live subscription.
My next game slated for completion is Pitfall on the SNES

Am I the only gamer who's ever been hit in the face by such a realization?
MW2 is just too easy. I tried it for a while then went back to Counter Strike Source, which is much more difficult. In MW2 you can aim for the chest, shoot 2 shots and kill; aim for the chest in CS:S, prepare to die by head shot.

I don't take MW2 too seriously. Some of the people you encounter on there are absolute a-holes.
I aim for a good K/D but I'm not going to be depressed if I do bad...
I find it fun doing SOME of the challenges, but yeah, it can get mighty tedious. I'll use any weapons including heartbeat and noob-tube. The only thing I won't tolerate is campers because they just suck all the fun out of playing whatsoever.

I can't play MW2 (or many games for that matter) longer than about 1 - 2 hours at a time unless it has really hooked me (like I did with the older Final Fantasys, Fallout 3 or Pokemon) without getting bored

I own it, but I'm thinking of selling it, but the local gameing place closed, and I could only thik of a few people who would but it.

I ussualy play Halo, I like it, I just don't see why so many people here hate it, I can see why people hate MW2, but I honestly think Halo is very good, but not what it was hyped to be.
