To be fair to the mother, you would trust your 11 year old son not to knowingly fuck with the family's finances.
You can't tell me he didn't ever read the price, and he obviously knew he wasn't supposed to be doing it or he'd probably have asked at least once if he could spend the money.

The mother's an idiot for giving an 11 year old credit card details, the son's a moron for not realising how much he spent.
I was gonna bring up the story about the 12-year-old spending $1,400 on Farmville, but you seem to have me beat by one year and about $200.

I am wondering why the woman never checked her bank records (or balanced her bank acct) since last July, or she would have noticed the large hole in her wallet that her son's Xbox was causing.
Sure the son was stupid, and the mother could have been educated more about how the 360 works, but the point above nullifies my sympathy for her. She could have stopped this forever ago.
On the upside, if the kid ramped up all this more heavily since xmas or something, I'm sure she can contact Microsoft and report what happened, then rip away all of her son's e-toys.

Here's how I'll roll:
1) Whip/smack them with belt/bamboo on their legs/hands (optional, some new age parents are getting too tame nowadays)
2) Sell their 360, from the article it's clear she cancel their subscription.
3) Make them pay back the debt, either by cutting their monthly allowance or wait until they older enough to get a job to repay the debt.
4) If I feel generous, I'll give them a Game Boy Advance.
Also for the mother:
1) Fix your damn laptop! you said it broke for 6 months, fix it already!
2) Teach him about money, kids nowadays spend money like pouring a whole bucket of money down the drain.
For the kid:
Listen kid, you got off easy, older generation will give you a five across the face, much much older generation will give you a sandwich, knuckle sandwich that is.

And yes a reason why pre paid cards are such a good idea. Microsoft makes it easy to connect your CC to the Xbox Live Account but damn if you want to remove it..no easy way but calling them.

well the fact that the mother was stupid enough to leave her credit information WITHOUT locking that part of his xbox account....i'd say feel free to laughgostlyfantom said:
