I have been thinking a lot lately about this 2012 thing and peoples worries. With all the earthquakes and whatnot I came up with something using science. Since all these earthquakes that are greater then 5.0 can slow down the earth's rotation causing time to increase as people see it, then is it not possible for the earth to slow down an hour and start making new days? If so then would that not make a new month or add more days to the month? Then maybe 2012 is just a new calender we need to get made, because if we get one hour for every day, after 365 day we get about 15.2 days extra. If it is more time then it is more days. So maybe 2012 is a day when we should make a new calender to make up for all these extra days?

There is more to add but I might start talking in circles but this is just an idea I had.

Look up the facts, high powered earthquakes do slow us down This is possible

Earthquakes have been happening since the dawn of time, and while the Earth is very slowly slowing down, this is happening over billions of years and you would never get such a large change within a year as to add a whole extra hour. A catacysm big enough to cause that truly would end the human race.

Anyone who actually thinks 2012 holds any kind of apocalyptic significance is a moron, plain and simple.

Sure, ignore science, I'm sure the Mayans knew exactly what they were talking about, without any religious influence whatsoever.

So what if the Mayan calender stopped at 2012, that doesn't foretell the end of the world. Going by that logic, my calender predicts the end of the world on the 31st December this year.

WHAT!...erm, where are you getting all this from exactly? I think it's a bit far-fetched...but if you're right then I owe you a coke my friend. ;)

Look up the facts, the amount of change by earthquakes is extremely minute. If we get enough high magnitude earthquakes by 2012 to add a new month (or even add an extra day), we've got MUCH bigger problems than changing calendars.

Just a thought (I have done no research at all)..you mention that these earthquakes can slow down rotation...isnt it plausible that they can also speed up?

You mean the worries that people largely don't have, obviously.

I've said it before on these forums and I'll now say it again: if the Mayans knew shit about shit they would have ended their calendar in 1697 when the Spanish handed to them their ass on a plate.

That is all.

Let's judge if Mayans are a credible source.

How many prophecies did they accurately predict?
Well they were right about the Sun not going up anymore if we stopped making human sacrifices... weren't they?

What most people don't connect in their heads is that our calendar has an end every year, because our focus was on the rotation of the planet around the sun. The Mayan calendar ends every few thousand years because their focus was an alignment where the rising sun and the planet are aligned with the center of the our galaxy.

Then it starts over again.

The only real question about the Mayans is how the hell did they make their calendar so accurate, unless their civilization was actually much older than we currently believe.

But who knows, maybe Quetzalcoatl will return and will have to play that hip ball game against the demons that killed first father for the right to keep living.

The Mayan Calendar was a circle, it doesn't "end" at 2012.

Also I'm going to be pissed if the world really does end in 2012. The MFA in Boston won't be opening their new coin exhibit until October that year, and I want to see it. Yes I am a nerd.

Anyone who believes 2012 is an "earth shattering event", obviously has been watching too much "History" Channel [right after Larry the Cable Guy tours America and before the new episode of Hitlers secret UFO!].

When the Spanish explorers conquered the Mayans, a majority of their tablets were destroyed, so who are we to say that their calender ended at 2012?

For all we know it could of continued for thousands of years.

Hell, maybe they were actually smart and knew that they didnt need a calender to go so high, so they created a drop-off point, much like the Pac-Man arcade game and Duck-Hunt.

Don't ned to, it is only the end of the great cycle part of the calender, not the end of time, it's just a tick over of the numerals on the date. happens every 5125 of our years.

Personally I think the Mayan Long Calendar that ends in 2012 is actually just designed to act as the biggest troll in the history of all mankind..

But if the world does start doing crazy shit then it'll be a relief because It means I can get away with not working AND avoid paying off my student fees.. Win win situation really, apart from the tax-man, he won't like me...

Anyway on topic..As the Mayans couldn't possibly predict all future earthquakes and their magnitude I think it might not be possible that they planned their calendar around it.. I'm not sure if thats what you're getting at 'cus I may have got confused in your logic.. somewhere..

Not enough of one to know that the end of the world happens in december of 2012...
