My Xbox ate my L4D disc.

I don't understand it, it was laying horizontally and it just started making a huge racket! I quickly turned Xbox off and looked at the disc, it had a perfect circular scratch around the edge. The really weird thing is that it only does it to my L4D disc and it won't stop doing it!
Has anyone got any ideas of why this happens? (Not technically I know why it happens in that sense just why it does it so randomly)

If you move your Xbox while it is running it will gouge your disc. It happened to my Bad Company 2 disc and now I have to play (Shudders) MW2

Yeah that's happened to my mate but my Xbox just keeps scratching the disc every time I put it in, no matter what's happening to the machine at the time.

Nah it's a good machine, it's fine with any other game, it's L4D it get angry at. Personally I think it's a conspiracy see, it ate my disc days before L4D2 came out... hmmmmm.

Maybe your L4D disc became unbalanced somehow? Those disc drives spin really freaking fast, if there is gunk or something on the disc, that might do it.

I moved my 360 once by accident when Halo 3 was in it. I got that same circular scratch. The good part is that it hasn't seemed to stop playing.

And I learned my lesson. Never move the 360, ever.

Ohhh man, my friend's xbox cable went under my closet door.... The xbox was standing up, I open the door, cable goes with it, and xbox falls over.

And his Far Cry 2 disc becomes scratched into oblivion.

To prevent this, you should download the game to the HDD to reduce the wear on the optical drive.

Although that's not to say that M$ cut corners on 360 production to save some pocket change at the expense of screwing gamers.

You could try calling MS Tech Support, but I doubt they'll do anything for you. Still, you've got nothing to lose at this point.

Happens to me.

In fact, I'm keeping a list.

So far the victims are as follows:

Mass Effect
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Call of Duty 4
Crackdown

I'm especially pissed that it destroyed Crackdown.

I lost my used copy of Deadrising that I had just brought home because I tipped the xbox just a bit (before I knew better). I brought it back to EB and said it came that way and I wanted my money back =) They made enough money off my used games anyways (before I learned better) so I don't feel guilty at all.

Oh no, The consoles are starting to become sentient! First, it is games they eat, next it will be pets, and then people!

On Topic: If your x-box 360 is starting to scratch up your discs it is a good indication that you should pry buy a new one. If you moved it while it was on I have heard that also scratches discs.

I got some advice for ya. It happened to one of my games as a friend bumped his 360 with MY game in it.

I noticed that gamestop does not have a CD resurfacer unless it is a very big store. However, the nearby hollywood video had one, so just check around at some of the places that sell games and movies. They might have a resurfacer to fix your game!

Thats an improvement.

OT: I had this happen with my gears 2 disc put it in and 30 mins in it starts making a grinding noise and the disc unreadable sign came up.

Try pushing the CD in less or more onto the little round thingy in the centre that the disc clips onto. That saved me from losing Jak 2...
