I can contribute 2 to this discussion.

I generally hate racing games but I do like 2 racing franchises.. I like Mario Kart of course but that's because it's not a pure racing game with it's weapons/items and because it's silly and fun. I also like the F-zero series which is closer to a "pure" racing game, because of the sheer speed, and because of the different things on courses such as the jumps and corkscrews.. things you wouldn't be able to do in normal automobiles. There's just a sense of tremendous speed in an F-zero game you don't get in a GT or Forzza game.

The other genre I typically hate is RTS games.. however I did enjoy Empire at War, which I got with the "Best of PC" star wars collection that I bought due to needing a new copy of Battlefront (lost CD key) and KotOR (scratched disks) and wanted to reinstall on a new pc.. and hey, I haven't played Jedi Outcast in years.. I could use a new copy of that too!

I was actually quite pleasantly surprised with both of the other games in the box set as well. I had not gotten Republic Commando because I assumed generic shooter, but when I tried it out.. that first level.. it was one of the most immersive gaming experiences I've ever had. Your squadmates had awesome personalities and the VA was great and.. man they need to make a sequel..

Empire at War was something I was hesitant to try at first.. as I said.. I strongly dislike RTS games. Build up.. micromanage technologies and building and recruiting.. moving units.. and then just kinda sitting there while they duke it out and you bring in reinforcements and special units and stuff.. kinda boring with so much waiting and the only thing you do is micromanage. However empire at war didn't seem so bad.. as #1 it's a Star Wars theme which I like Star Wars obviously given that I bought the box set of star wars games.. and #2, when you move your units into position and select your target and such and watch as they duke it out.. you can scale back into cinematic views and it... looks like a star wars battle scene, with Tie fighters swooping in and excessive amounts of laserfire all over the place to the John Williams score.. so the waiting part is a little less boring.

There was also less resource mongling that plagues other RTS's, you conquer a planet.. it generates resources automatically. This cut back on a little bit of the micromanagement "fuckery" (thanks Yahtzee!) that I hate about RTS games. Not to mention both battles in space and on land, and to assault a planet on ground and conquer it, you first have to control the space above it, so as a defender you have to defend both the surface and have ships in orbit. If the enemy is in control of the space but doesn't control the planet surface.. it won't generate resources for them, but you can't get your troops off the planet. Ground battles you can capture reinforcement points (like battlefront) and build points.. which all of this stuff is to call in more reinforcements from space (from the fleet you brought to the planet) and to construct turrets and bacta tanks and repair buildings for your vehicles.. you don't build new units or mine resources or any of that shit..

So micromanaging is reduced.. it has a little in common with battlefront which I absolutely loved.. the waiting around while your units fought each other is made much more interesting with being able to watch them via cinematic views (multiple angles you can switch and pan and such), heroes with special moves, and it's Star Wars..

I don't love it so to say.. but I enjoyed doing a few skirmishes here and there and completed the story campaign and done a little bit of galactic conquest mode which is more than I can say for any other RTS.. haven't bought the expansion however.

I dislike RTSes due to their lack of interactivity (in comparison to an FPS), but I found Supreme Commander to be a really awesome, captivating and addictive game.

Price is right, too.

I'm still yet to find an MMO that I can stand for more than 20 minutes though...

I generally don't like RTSs (because I'm generally bad at them), but I quite like Company of Heroes.

I can't believe so many people hate sports games. If you pick up any of the EA Sports Games from 2003-2005 you will have fun in short busts, because all of the modern sports games are overloaded with stuff to make it 'real'.

And I don't hate any genre, it's all good.

I tend to find FPS games a little boring, however CoD 4: Modern Warfare, is superb. It has opened up the door to the whole genre for me, having purchased World at War and Killzone 2 afterwords, unfortunately only to realise CoD 4 is a shining example of what FPS's can really be.

Hmmm...I'd say that I don't really enjoy sports games, but played Tony Hawk until my hands cramped up. Though, I'm not entirely sure that counts, as it's an "extreme" sports game, as opposed to say, Madden.

Played the hell out of Virtua Tennis, too. And, of course, the Hot Shots games.

I hate first person games, I like to see my character, but I must say that I loved mirrors edge.

I don't like first person because I always get shredded by a storm of bullets originating from some douchebag behind me before I can turn around, I like to be able to see what's going on. Mirrors edge, despite being first person and thus making me susceptible to said bullet rape, is based on parkour so it actually lets me escape.

I agree it lacks a fair bit in a story but I didn't really mind that, I'll excuse that since DICE had a difficult task of making a first person parkour game and I think they did a good job, most first person games bugger up the motion of the head but mirrors edge did that pretty well.

The only genre i can think of that i actually despise is sport games... so i suppose the answer would have to be "NBA Jam". Now THERE I'm beginning to show my age :p

Oh, and how about "MMO" and "Kingdom of Loathing"?

I wouldn't say I hate the racing genre but only two games have ever made me really want to play them a lot. Gran turismo 3 and need for speed hot pursit 2. Gran Turismo 3 struck a good balence between realism and arcade, you could only get so far playing pinball. Need for Speed was all about the mulitiplayer though, chasing your friends as police and having a reson to crash right into the side of their car was great fun.

I'm an RPG guy, hence I really don't like most "sports games" and have never found "racing games" to be "that" interesting...

That is until I played Burnout 3, which is still the best racing game ever in my opinion.

Still haven't ever found a "sports" game that remotely interests me though.

I generally don't go for survival horrors but I'll be damned if Dead Space isn't fun for me. It might have even sold me on the genre. Can anyone recommend any good survival horrors for the 360?

You know, I can't think of any. But there aren't many genres I don't like at least a little bit.

I'm not a big fan of racers, but arcadey racers are great, the less realistic the better. I really got into Need for Speed Carbon, I loved Star Wars Episode One Pod Racer and I'm itching to give F-Zero a try.

I don't usually go for licensed sports games - not because I'm against them, just because they're usually poorly made like any licensed game - but I enjoyed Rugby 06. But then I'm a rugby fan, so... *shrug*

I dislike racers and FPS (though I play the latter anyway, if friends want to), but liked Burnout: Revenge and ...Halo was alright, I guess. I have yet to find an FPS that I truly like, actually.

I can't say I particularly like shooters, but I enjoy the time I spend playing Halo 3 with friends. To say I love the game is a bit of the stretch. I'm still learning how to play it, so I can't really say I "love" being everyone's favorite set of free points.

Give F-zero GX a try, I think you'll enjoy the sheer overwhelming speed when you're topping 1500km/h around a corkscrew.. it gets exciting.

I don't like tower defense games. Except... well no even the new sophisticated ones still suck. Let me try something else.

Ah, I don't like flight simulators but I liked the Star Fox games.
