Oh god yes, I didn't know when I first played it as a kid and ran out of healing bread and didn't get past the guy with the wind gem thing. But it was nice how the difficulty changes depending on which element you want to train in, fire was Hard, Wind is Easy, Earth and Water are in between. Playing the game without water, though, was fucking impossible because you didn't have heal or escape.
