A list:

Characters that were absolutely useless.
A combat system that nearly fell apart in large scale battles.
I constantly felt limited.
It was just plain boring.

Overall I just didn't like, nor do I like any of Bioware's rpgs.

The entire game. Yup, whole thing. Holy boring. Main character as an archer + Leliana, Stair Master and Healer Wench = insta win without trying.

Story sucked. Just like Mass Effect 2: "Bad guy wants world destroy, find ally now!"
To be fair, all stories would be bad if we just simplified them like that.

Dragon Age: "Stop the Blight."

Bioshock: "Enter Rapture, get ordered around, guy giving you orders betrays you, then get revenge."

Grand Theft Auto 4: "Get out of debt and make it to the top."

Halo: "Kill the Covenant and the Flood."

Silent Hill 2: "Find missing wife."

And so on.
My point was more about the gathering allies bit. I have no issue with games that have world-hating antagonists, but the fact that the main character's sole job for about 85% of the game was to just kiss ass to various factions pissed me off. Mass Effect 2 had you gather allies to fight in one climactic fight. This and the lack of interesting side quests made the story very unappetizing. Plenty of games don't have you do this. You also did pick many games that didn't focus on story, so your examples are really unfair.

Fallout 3 was centered around stopping a group of people who wanted to "purify" the world.

Mass Effect 1 had you fight a man who betrayed the world to a race of locust-like machines bent on consuming the galaxy.

Neverwinter Nights had some interesting stories to say the least ranging from plagues to Undermountain invaders (including DLC here)

All of those stories sound and play far better than that of DA:O AND have some great side missions for breaks from the main line. That could be the biggest issue, but I really don't like the concepts either.

Let's see, Lack of Main Character Voice Acting is a big one.
Not to mention the fact that I was disappointed in the character creator and could never make a character turn out the way liked.

Also, I found the combat to be a bit lacking, it felt a little too slow paced for me, not to mention that my AI partners often took the scripted strategies that I spent quite a bit of my time preparing as suggestions rather than orders.

And let's not forget how stupid many of the hat and helmets look, at least Bioware had the sense to make the terrible looking head ware disappear when talking to people.

Finally, a few of the classes seemed unbalanced. The Shapshifter is useless, the Reaver is terrible, but a well-built Blood Mage/Arcane Warrior combo was nigh unstoppable.

The key there is to make good use of multiple save files. If you save before each of the major points, you should be able to limit full playthroughs quite a bit (Seems like at most 4).

For me, it was the Into the Fade quest. Very frustrating if you're a mage built specifically for a group support role.

I don't like that, when you companions are making snide remarks about the choices you make, there's never a dialog option for "tough shit, I'm in charge." Sten in particular gets far too mouthy considering the only reason he's alive is that you worked to set him free. This was never a problem in KOTOR.

EDIT:

That's interesting. I always considered the main plot the chore and exploring all the characters' backstory as the real meat of the story.

The graphics for console were fairly poor, especially when you compare them to Mass Effect 1 and 2, released around the same time as Dragon Age. I still love it though, that was just something that annoyed me a little

It isn't those achievements, it's the ones you get for speccing an entire branch of your main character. In many branches, you only have enough talent points for one at a time, and seeing as there are around 12 branches in the entire game...

The character customization, I don't care how defined my characters cheek bones are, I want more hair styles and only three basic face shapes, long, average and round. I want a cool character without having to spend hours tweaking sliders so he/she doesn't look hideous.

The deep roads dungeon during the Orzammar recruitment section just dragged on, and on, and on.

The downloadable content was just downright atrocious. Awakening wasn't bad, but it just lacked any interesting characters, which is what made the original so amazing. The smaller DLC just seemed rushed with not much thought put into them. Hell, Witch Hunt was released with a glaring bug which meant the key thing that the DLC was about, your ending choice, wasn't even correctly recognised.

The combat.

I'm much more of an "In yo' FACE!!" kind of guy, though to be fair it would be kinda difficult to implement some form of hands-on combat with mages. :/

There were far too many moments when the conversation didn't have the *quite* what I wanted to say. There would usually be something close to it, but rarely was there something that I felt I wanted my character to say. The best example I can find is talking to Whatshisface #6790 after you beat the Fade level. You know... the one that grabbed the Litany of Adralla in an attempt to save everyone, but got fed on by the Sloth Demon, and you get one last conversation with him before you exit the Fade? At one point he says something to the effect of "My mother said I was destined for greatness... (etc.)" and then you can chime in to either tell him that he died or a hero or insult him. I didn't want to say either of those things. I wanted to tell him that he did a good thing, nothing more and nothing less. I wouldn't call him a hero. Just a nice guy.

But I digress. The conversation rarely allowed you to tread the middle path, and when it did chances are the other options are going to be more appropriate. However after that long criticism I feel as though I owe a compliment for what I feel is one of the best RPGs in a long time. Kudos, Dragon Age: Origins, on giving us the weirdest metaphor for sex ever via Alistair. Never before or since have I had someone refer to sex as "licking a lamppost in winter." Easily the best NPC conversation I've ever had in an RPG.

The auto-attack. That was (and is) my real main problem. The only real way around the auto-attack was to spam abilities (or use a bow to make it feel more natural to 'auto-attack'), and you either run out of stamina or play a mage so you can use spells instead. Even with spells, because of the spell trees and stuff, you end up having only a handful of good spells to throw around and I always found myself doin the same set every time (except as my shapeshifter, that was fun, because you had so much variety, and even shapeshifting required good timing to perform the shifts).

The Deep Roads were AWFUL. I hated that place. It got easier with other characters, but damn. Other than that it didn't have a very large feeling to it. You just went through one load screen to the next.

There were times when enemies would just seem to overwhelm you. Especially if they had a mage or two you weren't aware of. Or one of your characters saw a distant enemy that they wanted to attack, but wasn't actually engaging your group. Seriously, the AI was atrocious. Not sure if the PC was better, but your allies were terrible.

Also, with the huge selection of spells, I felt mages should have gotten a few extra skill points for that. I always wanted to try some of the spells like Sleep, but Cone of Cold, Crushing Prison, Heal, and a few other were just so very effective. Why waste a few levels to pick up a spell that won't be effective against a powerful boss?

On the other hand, I loved Morrigan. Yes, she was a *****, but she was a funny and awesome *****!

The Fade. The FUCKING Fade! Its the most boring, frustrating experiance i've ever had in a game. Its original, but theres a reason no one's done a dream world with a permanent blurry world with a dull color palet put on on purpose, that forced you to stay in it for HOURS!

Oh and the DLC was kinda meh. Wardens Keep was half assed, and still! The main armour the download gives you is bugged! The Blood Dragon armour was just stupid, same with it in Mass Effect. It was way too overpowered and didnt make sense to have it at all in the beginning. I know I got some more DLC, but honestly I cant remember it, it was so forgettable. Shale should have been in the main game and it was a cash grab, same thing with Mass Effect 2 too, they purposly put some stuff on DLC just to get some extra cash and discourage used games. Zaheed was a cool character they just didnt want to make full fledged so they half assed him. Generally thats just the problem with Bioware lately, they make a damn good base project, but then every other thing is just lame.

Lack of voice acting for main character, of course.

The dream level in Circle of Magi Quest. That lasted for about 2 hours...

For me it was justthat party memebers had love you hate you bars, after playing Mass Effect, I expected more organic chemistry from my party to like me for my action, not just giving them blue shoes.

Other than that thought I loved the game.
