My point was more about the gathering allies bit. I have no issue with games that have world-hating antagonists, but the fact that the main character's sole job for about 85% of the game was to just kiss ass to various factions pissed me off. Mass Effect 2 had you gather allies to fight in one climactic fight. This and the lack of interesting side quests made the story very unappetizing. Plenty of games don't have you do this. You also did pick many games that didn't focus on story, so your examples are really unfair.lucky_sharm said:To be fair, all stories would be bad if we just simplified them like that.Hairetos said:Story sucked. Just like Mass Effect 2: "Bad guy wants world destroy, find ally now!"
Dragon Age: "Stop the Blight."
Bioshock: "Enter Rapture, get ordered around, guy giving you orders betrays you, then get revenge."
Grand Theft Auto 4: "Get out of debt and make it to the top."
Halo: "Kill the Covenant and the Flood."
Silent Hill 2: "Find missing wife."
And so on.
The key there is to make good use of multiple save files. If you save before each of the major points, you should be able to limit full playthroughs quite a bit (Seems like at most 4).Snarky Username said:The ridiculous achievements that required that I beat the game at least 10 times before I can unlock them all... On the PC version at least. Other than that, it was a really good game, in my opinion.
That's interesting. I always considered the main plot the chore and exploring all the characters' backstory as the real meat of the story.Hairetos said:Mass Effect 2 had you gather allies to fight in one climactic fight. This and the lack of interesting side quests made the story very unappetizing.
It isn't those achievements, it's the ones you get for speccing an entire branch of your main character. In many branches, you only have enough talent points for one at a time, and seeing as there are around 12 branches in the entire game...Jaded Scribe said:The key there is to make good use of multiple save files. For me, it was the Into the Fade quest. Very frustrating if you're a mage built specifically for a group support role.
