Morrigan - she's a case study in how not to do the ***** archetype well. In one moment, she's amused that you're threatening a priest's life and all the anarchy it represents, in the next, she's sympathizing with the innate dignity of a member of a foreign race all caged up for some unknown (to the party) reason. She's like the angsty teen that's mad at society and knows better than everyone else. Sure, it's true to life to a certain degree, but I couldn't deal with her the way I wanted to and it left me frustrated. She's the type of person who doesn't get out of their clique because the real world would take her to task very quickly for the crap she says. Just not someone I wanted on my party, and I liked Jack from Mass Effect 2.
Dialogue options were often slightly off from anything I wanted to do. Instead of having fun with the dialogue, kinda felt like I was being pigeon-holed into some bland, obliviously good/stupidly evil/plain boring archetype in a number of conversations.
I managed a pretty fun ranger type in D&D based on the scout class. She's competent and plays that strength in social settings rather than trying to be the some silver-tongued, social butterfly. I attempted to recreate her vibe in this game which turned out to be a mistake on all counts.
Mediocre character creator at best, but that's kind of a Bioware thing at this point. Their character animation could use some work in a lot of cases. Also, yes, many terrible looking helms, especially for mages.
Attributes were described poorly and it was hard to see what was best for what given certain weapons, which is probably the reason some people had a real hard/easy time at the same class. Overall balance was kinda crappy though, which includes stealthing in to lay a trap turning out to be a huge waste of time and ability points.
It's largely the game type's fault, but a certain amount of tedium set in pretty quick, and you really needed to babysit your team in combat.
All that said, I only played a couple hours in before some inner part of my mind decided it wasn't worth it.
edit - On the other hand, it was really fun listening to Morrigan and Alistair go at it, but only because he was such a good sport about it.
