When I finally get around to designing that FPS game I've had in my head for years, I will be able to unleash the might of FELIX. Short for Flight-Engineered Lander/Inserter (eXperimental), it is a combination of attack craft and dropship, able to ferry two full platoons of soldiers into any hot zone. 335 megawatts of energy shielding and 34 centimeters of durasteel armor plating can take a beating, and its compliment of 125 mm mass drivers, tungsten-gas plasma guns, short- and long-range missiles and emergency Nova Bomb (for when you have to leave a smoking crater in a hurry) will put a hurt on pretty much anything shy of a full-on intrasystem attack fleet.
Now, were I to live in a magic/steampunk world, I would have my very own hovership. A steam engine heated by an elemental fire crystal would drive six lift fans, while a contained lightning shard would power the forward-mounted anti-ship electric gun, capable of blowing apart vessels of similar size to bits and doing great damage to ground-based targets. For more close-up-and-personal work, four mounted Gatling guns (two central, two aft) and a crew of thirty-two armed with revolvers, katanas and attitude to spare are ready to ruin your day. This hovership, the Maelstrom, attacks under cover of night, plundering rich port towns- whose defenses are invariably pointed towards the sea, never the sky- but also destroying threats to the greater well-being of the nation.
