Brendan - from the Irish "Bréanainn" meaning "King".
William - from the German "Wilhelm" meaning "the desire to protect".
Winkel - Americanization of "von Winkel" (Several towns in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria carry this name.)

And on a side note, and with a touch of irony, it is also the name of the colour and letter coded patch used by Nazis to classify prisoners in concentration camps. Ironic, because I am Jewish.

Mine means "evil spirit" in Avestan; and was the name of the god of darkness, death and destruction in Persian mythology....... AWESOME!
(Note: this is one of my many names, I just liked the meaning of it, that's why I used it on this thread.)

[my name here] was an angel with a fire sword who gaurded the gates off the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve got their asses punted out. Not sure that's what my parents expected when they chose it, but...

Fire Sword? That's awesome. Your parents may have made you more badass than you were meant to be.

Lauren= "Crowned with Laurel", a Greek symbol of Victory.
Marie= Well, it's just derived from Mary. How dull.
Anastasia= "She will rise again,"

My last name is derivative of Michael the arch-angel.

EDIT: "Sea of bitterness" is a speculated meaning. Others include "rebelliousness." After a bit of digging, I've found that Marie is, as I said, derived from Mary, and that Mary is most likely stemmed from the Egyptian word mry, meaning "beloved" or "love." So I'm terribly bitter, but it's not because of my middle name.

My first name is Hebrew and means to descend or down flow.
Second name is Greek origin for light giving.
My last name is of English origin for small farm.

So I descend and give light to small farms?

Gregory: From the Latin Gregorius, which was from the late Greek name Γρηγοριος (Gregorios), which was derived from γρηγορος (gregoros) meaning "watchful, alert".

Burton: From a surname which was originally taken from an Old English place name meaning "fortified town".

Simpson: Breaking it down quite simply, anything ending in son can be translated literally as the "son of" something. Simpson is, I believe, Scottish, and it means "son of Simon." Don't you love patronymics?

I LOVE word and name origins. In fact, finding your names distracted me enough from my anger at my ex boyfriend that I've stopped crying, and I've been doing that for a good two hours. Thanks, lol.

My first name mean "the just one" and my surname is Old English/Old Norse for meaning that my family/clan lived on the meadow. Not overly exciting.
