Australia. We don't have to shout that we're the best because we just know it to be true.

Mostly, anyway.
And yet home to the largest Mega-Church in the world.

The irony.

OT: As a British person my skin is thick due to the vast quantities of general disdain we have to field from every other country we've conquered/oppressed/otherwise bettered in our long history. Honestly, you think the French would just let it go.

I kid, I kid. But seriously, who would like a spot of Earl Grey?

A quick google search shows that Ireland has the 2nd highest tea consumption per capita, while Britian is 6th.

That's irrelevant though, because I still own all the tea.
As I said, while back that I looked at the statistics :p

And no you don't, not yet at least. There is an underground market we have managed to keep Daystar free :p And soon we shall rise up and take back all tea!! Well, we'll let you keep one herbal tea of your choice, for old times sake.
Are we veering off topic?? You're the OP, you tell me. :p
Earl Grey, if you please. None of that herbal crap.

Nah, it's no really derailing, I mean this is the kind of banter I love.

I think that's one of the major characteristics that seperates us from the Americans.

I get the impression that America is trying very hard to make everyone love them, often failing in that regard, while Britian simply doesn't give a toss anymore.

Everyone hates us, and we hate everyone. And that's the way we like it :D

Haha, ok, when the uprising is over, and the mighty Daystar has fallen, he shall be allowed to keep his Earl Grey :)

The problem with us Irish is we try very hard to make people not like us, but when we are assholes it is seen as endearing and we are loved all the more :p

Also, I don't hate the English, they have some wonderful accents, not like us. Also, they have that cucumber building, how could I hate a country that has a cucumber building??? :D

i remember an American escapist getting up in arms because was talking about an amount of money in £ and as an aside i'd converted it into $ (using AmEx currancy converter btw)

the USEscapist got quite s#itty with me, saying i was delusional and i was taking nationalism too far by the amount id said GBP was stronger than USD.

In short, i think we're not quite mixed enough as certain people will become deffensive very easily

Despite all that is said about my country ("Merica) I really do enjoy the diversity here and unique point of view that other countries and cultures can offer. That said, please enjoy Baltimore, MD.

Some of the older genertaions garner genuine disdain for members of other countries (on both sides), but I believe enough time has passed so that it's more like friendly rivalry, rather than actual conflict.

I don't hate the French, for instance, but I'm still gonna take the piss :D

During my time in America, I found a lot to be liked. This may come as a shock, but the great majority of people in America are nothing like the stereotypes we hold about them. I know, right!? In fact, I honestly wouldn't mind living over there, life is generally good. Not only that, but I met an incredibly beautiful, wonderful girl over there whom i may marry one day. So it's in the non-verbal contract to be nice about them.

A lot of America's policies we see trying to be pushed are as vehemently disagreed with over there as they are anywhere on the internets. So I try not to do the whole "hurr durr all 'muricans are dumb" type thing, because they really aren't, mostly.

And the English (not British, English), have learnt to deal with it all through the sheer length of time it's been going on. The last two PM's tried to pander to the EU and it just made us their *****. I like the more hard line, definitive stance Cameron is taking with the EU. Of course, that's prime territory for the French to suggest ousting us, but the EU's economy would literally collapse without us since it's only us and Germany propping it.

And as far as the kerfuffle with Argentina is concerned, well, if we just let a few Typhoons off the chain, i'm sure they'll back down. I mean, history isn't exactly on their side with this one...

Yea, well I mean it is fun from time to time, to pretend to hold a terrible and wrathful grudge against your country, but it's nothing serious. Yea, every country in Europe seems to laugh at the French for some reason, must be because of all the snail eating and frog munching :)

I wasn't implying that the American people want everyone to love them, but rather I get the impression that America has something to prove (the country is still young, so that's to be expected).

I think it's a cultural thing. England hasn't be successfully invaded since 1066, so our cultural is very old by most standards. The country has seen countless conflicts, the same can be said about a lot of the European nations.

Well, let's take a break from all the English speaking countries. And I'll represent some Eastern Europe here.

After some...

we rose up to take our rightful place in Europe.

And now we are the most democratic, the most progressive, the most beautiful, and the best country in the world.

Don't believe me? Here let me introduce you to our
prime minister. Seen here just about to ***** slap some democracy in his this *****.

It's truly wonderful to not be conditioned by evil capitalism.

I feel as though I should constantly apologize for the american government. Also, I'm beginning to fear my alias means something very bad in German because every time I race online with someone from Germany they actively seek me out to crash and wreck me....

You might just have one of those faces that Germans hate.

The fact they can't see it, is irrelevant.

They can sense it. Like Jedi.

Well, considering how much America helped Britain in WWII regarding equipment and machine lend/leasing, I'd say as a country America is okay with me. I think in a sense, America is still trying to find its feet regarding the principles upon which it was founded (freedom etc). It reminds me of the disparity between the early Christian church as seen in Acts 19, and the church today as it's own influencial political entity. Now that form of the church is losing its power because that's not how it was originally itnended, and the world is seeing that now. At some point, with how far America has strayed from its original roots, it will, in the same way, return to a sense of authenticity as it was originally intended (which is something the church is doing, but you never see it in the news as they are the people who aren't trying to pass the ridiculous laws or attempting to force their beliefs on anyone else).

Aside from that rant, I think America is a cool place, they just need to let less crazy people get in power...

I just love that our common interest gives us a reason to speak to people across the world. It's one thing to be pretty sure that folks across the pond are the same kind of human as I am, and it's another to meet someone who became one of my most trusted friends.

We had some pretty great failed invasions though. Especially the one where the French marines thought that a group of local fish wives were redcoats and retreated.

The Battle of Fishguard 1797. [http://www.fishguardonline.com/last_inv.html]

The formidable local cobbler, Jemima Nicholas, captured a dozen demoralised French soldiers and secured them in St. Mary's Church.

Damn, am I the only boring old German out here?

...and thus the only one who's had to deal with some really awful video game localisations ever?
