It's not just about games centered around them.

There are zombies (or zombie stand-ins) in Uncharted, Mass Effect, Zelda, Red Dead Redemption, Call of Duty, Dead Island, Half-Life, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Left 4 Dead, and Dead Rising. And those are just the ones I've played or heard about, as I actually try to avoid zombies as much as I can. Other people can surely fill in more. They are truly ubiquitous, and it's long overdone.

Why does everyone keep calling it a "zombie craze"? Zombies have been around forever, and video games have been using them since the beginning. And zombies haven'd been used as much as other concepts as of late. Like really, I can name about 20 space marine games, 15 or so military shooters, dozens of generic fantasy games, and just as many dystopian sci fi games. But there's been what, like 6ish major zombie games in the last few years? And people are complaining that its over used?
Seriously, there haven't been that many. Left 4 Dead (2008, almost 4 years ago!) and L4D2 (09), Dead Rising (2006, 5 years ago!) and Dead Rising 2 (2010), Dead Island (2011). And that's about it for actual zombie titles. Call of Duty WaW & Black Ops Zombies were minigames, Undead Nightmare and The Zombie Island of Dr Ned were DLC.
Zombies haven't been over used. Actually, I'd even argue that the concept is under-used. Only a few games have featured zombies, and even fewer have fleshed them out. No, zombies are not over used, and Naughty Dog are awesome.

I'm far more interested in Fortnite, another zombie game that's currently under production with the Unreal Engine just because it's quirky and looks to be an enjoyable multiplayer game.

[Edit:] And on the topic of "The Last of Us", while I'm sure Naughty Dog will make an enjoyable game, I'm just not that interested in it. Everyone's been saying it's giving off an "I am Legend" vibe from the other sites I've been on and I have to agree.

please for the love of god let the game be as dramatic as the trailer!

If it turns out to be like Dead island i will piss fire all over naughty dog
Well considering it was rendered on the ps3, and not a CGI trailer, I doubt it's just a fake like the Dead Island was.
I think he means that the game is all dramatic. As in a good story. Not about graphics, and from the Dead Island trailer it look like it was going to be a emotional story. Which by the gameplay, doesn't really match up with it. So I'm still gonna call this just another zombie game like the rest until I see more stuff about it.

As many say, the zombie thing is soon getting old. I just want an open world zombie game about SURVIVING. Not where you run around gunning down every single foe. Sorta like the game Dead Island's trailer made it look like..
...How did Dead Island's trailer make it look like it was about surviving? =x It just showed a family get murdered. Not...too much surviving going on.

Huh, It actually doesn't look that bad. I haven't really lost interest in zombies yet so I'll give it a chance.

Another Zombie game?
The whole zombie craze is just getting old, I'm not that psyched, sorry.
Oh the vicious irony!

If anyone other than Valve can pull off a decent zombie game it is Naught Dog, so I'll be watching this closely.

that was ellen page? cool i like her.

i'd submit a switchblade probably isn't the best zombie killing tool though, you know because you have to maneuver into om-nom-nomming distance to use it effectively. or throw it, and fight the rest with your bare hands a guess.

EDIT: Why has no game ever been in Antartica? I mean there probably has been games in there but it's an area that is a no-man's land. Have a "The Thing" scenario or something similar; I would pay to see that.
I think there was a game made about The Thing.

I said this in another TLoU thread; Naughty Dog don't always have the most groundbreaking ideas but every one of their games I've played has been great fun and they know how to make a good game.

Also, I hope you're playing as the girl, the "zombies" are more like Amnesia's enemies then just random mooks, and that there's a serious focus on hiding and avoiding enemies as opposed to just mowing them down.

I find the replies about "zombie games are overdone" hilarious. There haven't been many zombie games that are good games come out. Just because you have played these mediocre zombie games that have been shoveled out doesn't mean everyone else has. I figure anyone sick of zombies bought into the genre way too soon and now are tired of them before they have been really explored well.

Can anybody actually name off more than 5 games centered around zombies that have been released in the last 5 years?
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead 2
Dead Island
Dead Rising 2
Resident Evil 5
House of the Dead Overkill
Dead Nation
Dead Frontier
NecroVision (Though it wasn't exclusively zombies)

... To name a few. And I'm not even getting into zombie sections, modes, and DLC.
Of course, I'm not saying that it's a bad thing. :3

Its Naughty Dog, if they're making it, its worth playing. Whether or not it can meet even half our expectations if the problem, being that there's never been a zombie-apocalypse game this generation that could really do that. They're all just co-op shenanigan games (LF4, Dead Island), which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you're not gonna have a dark experience when you're buddy is tea-bagging the hunter yelling "How do you like it, huh?!"

That's a great name for a game (serious, The Last of Us is a fantastic title), and at first I thought it was a post apocalyptic world in which crazed bandit people threatened what was left of humanity and was interested, especially with a non-gray/brown world to explore, but then they turned out to be zombies (an enemy I've never liked) and I immediately lost all interest.
Even after watching that Dead Island trailer which I loved, I still didn't want to play Dead Island.
Zombies have always been so completely meh to me. Dullest enemies ever (to me).

I was skeptical about the game, even when I saw those two leaked screenshots. Sure, they looked like something out of Uncharted, it looked that good. Only when NAUGHTY DOG popped up at the start of the trailer did I actually get excited. Only Naughty Dog can make a game look that good on the PS3, and now they are doing it again! Can't wait to see how the game turns out, because, when you think about it, Naughty Dog don't make crap games.

You mean like this?

I'll accept cash payment by next week ; )

The game itself wasn't a must have. It came out last generation I think. It was moderately enjoyable. I'm a big fan of the movie remake and prequel.

OT: This Naughty Dog Zombie trailer does not get me that interested. I hope to hear better things and see gameplay soon, but probably won't. Meh.
Ha! I said "The Thing" scenario! No payment for you! xD But in all seriousness, very few games have been set in barren environments were the temperature is actually an enemy. The closest one that comes to my mind is Lost Planet.

I'd agree if any of the zombie games you mentioned had actually used zombies differently from the others. You can take a zombie from any of those games and put it in the others and it'd fit in perfectly with the other hordes. I guess the L4D zombies can run and I'm not sure about the others, but seriously. Or the special boss zombies (of which there aren't enough in comparison to the regular brain eating shambling dead people to really consider them a change rather than just a diversion from the rest). If the only things developers can do differently are make them run or give them a different origin story (these zombies were made when the bird flu mixed with swine flu! these zombies are from chemical warfare!), there's not much point repeatedly beating people over the head with the same zombies over and over again. That's why they're overused.
If there was a real variance of zombies, it'd be easier to swallow them, but when each game throws thousands to ten of thousands of pretty much the same stereotypical zombie at players over and over again expecting them to be scary or interesting or anything other than bullet fodder you can't blame the player for being tired of them.

No offense to your love of zombies. I'm just trying to explain why I think people are tired of zombies as enemies.

Isn't this the point where someone talks about how the trailer is just a teaser and shows almost nothing game play wise except for the the possiblity of resourse gathing and muilti-player.

It looks a little like Enslaved so it may be interesting. Also, Ellen Page... as in Juno? I HATED that film... that roller derbie film was pretty cute though...
