Avatar: The Last Airbender is not anime. It's fully American. The animation is partially inspired by anime, the mythology by Hinduism, the culture by China, but it is fully and completely an American show. It's also the best freaking show I have ever seen in my life. Just had to point that out. "Anime" is Japanese animation. If it's not Japanese, it's not anime.
OT: See Clannad. It's an amazing romance/comedy/drama show that will not only make you laugh, but will make you cry. I don't care if you've never cried in a movie, the last fourth of this show (basically the last half of the second and final season) will have you in constant tears. This has been true for everyone I've shown it to. Everyone.
Oh yes, sorry, I forgot there was an English dub recently. It's not the worst, but it's pretty bad. But then, considering the OP has seen Naruto, I'm sure he's familiar with the vital need to watch subbed. I love Naruto, but the English dub makes my ears bleed.

Pfft the only reason it isnt anime is because it came out of the US making it a "cartoon". It doesn't change the fact that it still is

As always, I will recommend Clannad and Clannad After Story. Not only is it simply a beautiful anime, it is by far the most touching anime out there. You will cru, and you will cry lots.

Dang it, you had ninja'd me and I didn't even realize it. So let me post again and stress the importance, OP, of Clannad. Resist if you like, but this show will draw tears, guaranteed.
Also I will take this opportunity to once again say, Dango, your name and avatar are awesome. Fuko is freaking amazing.

I've also seen one which opens with 2 guys in plate armour which can turn into planes are fighting around a statue, one in black armour (good guy) one in white, the guy in white wins. Its done in a very unique animation style. If you've seen it you know what Im on about.
/edit/ Ty Salamander Joe the anime's name is Karas /edit/
So, any suggestions. Im not really after marathon animes here. 50-100 eps max please.
Hmm... Strait Jacket is nice and short? 3 episodes lol.. Black Blood Brothers.. Martian Successor Nadesico. Pani Poni Dash (FREAKIN HILARIOUS), Starship Operators. I'm surprised you dont have Gungrave OR Trigun in that list. Or even Ouran High School Host Club (I think that's the right title)

Actually it does. Anime is Japanese animation. Meaning it's made in Japan. Meaning if it's not made in Japan, originally with the Japanese language and aired on Japanese TV, it's not anime. So actually yeah, it does change that fact.
Don't mind me, I'm just an English major who freaking loves Avatar. I'm being a bit ridiculous and nit-picky, but the combination of fanboy and English major kind of brings that on when it comes to the terminology.
I'll add my support of the subbed version of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When they Cry) as a formidable series, as well as Baccano!. For more thematic recommendations not as immidiately viable from the list of watched animes, Excel Saga is an excellent over-the-top parody show, and an awesome dark suspense thriller like Monster is worth a look too despite its length.
While I found them to be more middle-of-the-road, To Aru Majutsu no Index (new season started last week) and Gunslinger Girl make for decent action series as well.

I'd also say that Coyboy Bebop and Fooly Cooly have great English dubs. Not to say you shouldn't watch them in Japanese (in fact you probably still should), but the English dubs are more than passable for those two.

Hey now, they're actually 18. It's just the drawing style. It is a very entertaining and relaxing anime (the first episode mainly consists of the girls discussing how to properly eat a chocolate cornet).
Edit: Oh, and they aren't cheerleaders.
That would be School days, yes. Maybe not worth watching if you've already seen the end of it though.
Still, Clannad (and Clannad After Story) is very good.
Welcome to the NHK is rather psychological: A look at the life of a hikikomori NEET.
