No Death Note?
Really?

I'm surprised.
Such a long list of anime, yet no death note.

I recommend that, btw.

Baccano!

Seriously it was not very popular but it was fantastic, and the dub is great.

It's fairly realistic (for an anime), great characters...pretty much every high school anime has copied it in some way or another.

Assuming you can stomach female fan service, give it a shot.

One of the most quotable animes ever dubbed into English.

Trigun - what a fun ride. I love this show.
Last Exile - another fun one, and truly different.
Cowboy Bebop - Made of pure style and one of the best ever.
Jyu-oh-sei - different, dark but a good watch
Black Lagoon - different, VERY dark, a good watch
Black Blood Brothers - for a younger audience and they ran out of budget for action so the ending isn't totally awesome arggg. But truly *interesting* characters and a fun watch.
Hajime no Ippo - I have to put this in because nobody else did. Younger audience again but a great character-driven story.
Jyushin Enbu - short series, again younger audience, but a good story by the maker of Full Metal Alchemist.
Planetes - a longer story, not much action, but a good watch anyways.

Just for fun, check out Frank Frazetta and Ralph Bakshi's animated Fire and Ice movie sometime. I still watch it once in a while just to marvel at how friggin' awesome an artist Frank was.

Beserk and Death Note are definitely the two suggestions already made I would support.

Tenjou Tenge is good but it's not finished properly so it's a disappointment tbh and High School of the Dead... well it's pretty good but the ridiculous amount of female skin shown at every opportunity means it's tough to take seriously.

I do recommend the new Iron Man anime, so far the two episodes that are out have been good and Togainu no Chi has started promisingly too. Hajime No Ippo I enjoyed but it's a boxing one so it's not everybody's cup of tea since its a bit more realistic in feel than most (apart from when a guy knocks out a bear by punching it!) and Grappler Baki. Can't think of any others right now

I think 'anime' is a style, not a nationality. You can get Anime from Korea, ne?
No, "anime" is the word that the Japanese use for animated features. Basically, "cartoon" is to America as "anime" is to Japan.

As always, I will recommend Clannad and Clannad After Story. Not only is it simply a beautiful anime, it is by far the most touching anime out there. You will cru, and you will cry lots.
You and me, man. You and me...

Yup, go watch it. You're missing out, OP.

Other good ones include:
Welcome to the NHK.
Angel beats.
School days.
Lucky star.
lucky star? I don't know if he can get into it it will take patience to overcome the first five episodes
Well, it's one of those love it or hate it things. If you're in the right mood for it, it can be simply fantastic. I'm sure if he can manage to watch the first five, he'll be hooked.

1. Serial Experiments Lain, It's The Second coming of Jesus, I even did a review!!! [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.214642-Sacmans-Sac-tastic-Anime-Review-Serial-Experiments-Lain]

2. Ergo Proxy, A lot of people say Ergo Proxy is an anime you have to think about but on reflection it feels more like a parody or satire of over pretentious anime like Eva. The last episode is even titled "Deus Ex Machina."

3. Elfen Lied, What this show does is hard to explain. It's gory and bloody and filled with tasteless nudity but I loved it. Elfen Lied just got me so attachedto the characters that come the end I cried...

4. Welcome To The NHK. It's hard to explain... I mean it's really the only slice of life I've ever loved this much but I'm just not exactly sure why. It could be the pitch black humor, the realistic characters, the social satire, or even the brilliant writing. Honestly, however, I think it's more the fact that Sato's, The main character's, situation hit's very close to home for me...

5. FLCL. I hate to sound like everyone else but FLCL is 6 episodes of awesome craziness!!!

6. Blue Sub No. 6. I used to watch this as a kid on Toonami and I really didn't get it but going back to watch all 4 episodes now I can safely say it's one of the most polished OVA series I've ever see, with an amazing soundtrack, great action, great animation, a standout art style, and one of the most coherent messages about human nature I've seen in anime.

7.Gundam The 08TH MS Team. It really stands out for me because it's one of the few Gundam series that give a general sense of fear because the action is unpredictable and the characters really endear themselves to the audiance...

8. Paranoia Agent. It's a truly great murder mystery that keeps you guessing at every turn but look past that and you'll find a very intriguing deconstruction of the human mind...

9.Gungrave. Possibly one of the most underrated shows I've seen. Gungrave is a truly great story about friendship, love and betrayal without ever falling into cheesiness the great animation, spectacular fight scenes and well thought out character development doesn't hurt either.

10.Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. Despite having no real plot, since I consider Kai and Rei to be non canon, Higurashi is one of the most atmospheric and frightening shows I've ever seen. It constantly keeps you guessing and always gives a feeling of paranoia and dread...
The same list as always, eh? ^.^

I was just wondering if you've seen Clannad. Judging from your list, it would seem like you'd like it. You might have a hard time with all the highschool/moe stuf if you're one of those that don't like that; but it is really worth looking through that anime to the end.
