Idiotic fanboys are idiotic!
But I feel the need to be pedantic, and just say those arn't death threats. The people arn't threatening death, they are just saying they hope the writer suffers it. I didn't see the whole article, but from what I read that was the gist of it.

You know, originally when I was writing this I was thinking of writing an obnoxious comment completely in caps to parody the behavior of these people. Instead, I however, I'll do these 'fine adults' a favor by composing the list of things that are worth being outraged about.

Orphans starving.
People being raped.
Innocent people being electrocuted.
Gay people being hanged.
Animals being skinned alive.
Endless slaughter of numerous animals.
Spontaneous terrorism.
Corrupt Politicians.
Insane Corporations.
The Existence of Dragon Age 2.

You see that? THESE are things worth getting pissed off about. So gosh, I bet these people must feel really stupid and selfish in giving a person death threats on the basis that they had a different opinion. And hell, this opinion wasn't even over something worth getting upset over. Businesses profiting off of a service that they try to weasel out of? Animals being skinned alive? People being tortured? Naaaaaaaaah, that's nothing to worry about. Clearly, the real problem is giving a movie critic the right to free speech is what we should really be working on.

So according to one critic, The Dark Knight Rises is a bad movie?

And how is this any different from the last 20 Batman movies?
You cannot in good faith tell me Mask of the Phantasm or Return of the Joker were bad.
I was using hyperbole.

In all honesty, I've never given two shits about Batman as a franchise. So I've never really seen Mask of the Phantasm or Return of the Joker.

I've seen Begins, Batman and Robin, and The Dark Knight. Didn't like any of them. Batman's not my cup of tea. Prefer Superman (Dean Cain only), and Marvel.
Ah, that's understandable. The two films I mentioned were related to the animated series and Batman Beyond respectively.

So you give a death threat over a movie review? Yeah, but, yeah... I got nothing but say...
'The more people I meet, the more pro-choice I become.
In the words of Doug Stanhope, "Screw pro-choice. I'm pro-abortion; talk someone in to it."
Hahaha...wow.

You know, I'm liking that statement.

It's news like this that make me wonder if there shouldn't be some kind of IQ test before folks are allowed to breed.

Honestly, taking the Bane quotes seriously really shows how much they're blowing this out of proportion. You can see those on a Youtube comments section for a TDKR trailer. They're just jokes.

Other ones are more serious but really, it's just the internet; who hasn't gotten the occasional death threat?

Playing Devils Advocate though I feel when someone makes a review they need to maintain a unbiased opinion of a game/movie. Like I have seen reviews made on RPG games and the review dislikes RPGs in general. They will see the game differently than RPG gamers.
That's nonsense. A review is by nature a biased opinion. The only difference between me telling you "[Game] wasn't very good" and, say, Yahtzee doing it is my opinion was shorter and I wasn't paid for it (also it wasn't funny). I do prefer that reviewers try to point out anything they saw or played that they did enjoy, and that review sites try to delegate reviews to reviewers that aren't actively hostile to the material (Notice that the AV Club almost always has Tasha Robinson review kid's movies, for example), but you can't ask a reviewer to be objective about a subjective opinion.
What I mean is say a person who is a HUGE FPS gamer and he is forced to review RPG games. He hates the RPG games in general. The review he would give to people who do love the RPG genre will be more negative than a reviewer that loved RPGs.

it just doesn't sound right to take that person's review to heart when they really don't have any interest in that genre.

Oh, ok, I see what you mean. We're pretty much in agreement on that.

Any good review site will be good about having people who enjoy a genre review in that genre (otherwise they're just trying to drum up page hits). Generally, reviews of a specific genre are only going to be read by people inclined towards that genre (If you can't stand turn-based strategy, you really probably don't care how many good reviews Civ V has, for example).

Saying 'I hope you die isn't a death threat.

If I tell my friends I hope I win the lottery tomorrow, I am not saying 'I will win the lottery tomorrow, via force if necessary lol'.

Everyone is so damned sensitive, in which case why dont we go for broke.

I hope an asteroid hits the world tomorrow. I technically just threatened the lives of every person on the planet!

Saw the movie earlier today. Would it be pretentious of me to say that the reviewer completely missed the point of Bane and Miranda? I'm not going into spoilers because I'm aware it's not out in America yet and some people have very little self-control (such as myself). But it just seems like she went in there expecting an action flick and missed all the symbolism in those characters.

Sounds like the rabid fanbase needs to be reminded of the MST3K mantra. "Repeat to yourself it's a just a show film and you should really just relax."

I politely disagree with your assertion, but you are allowed to have your own opinion.

You know, I used to think the whole "Gordo Granudo" thing was a stereotype. Nobody in their right mind could conceivably be this entitled, this short-sighted, this petty and this, well, angry about fairly trivial things.

Then the ME3 debacle happened. Then the student strike in Quebec happened. Then the new Spider-Man flick garnered as much praise as it did irrational and seething anger - and now this.

I'm starting to think that a lot of people in my generation are putting way too much stock into what's ostensibly fantasy worlds with no connection or impact on the real world. Sure, you can care about anything you damn well please - but you're just a fan. You're not Gene Roddenberry, Tolkien, Bob Kane, Chris Nolan or George R. R. Martin's personal Fan Police. The things you're raging at are things nobody will care for or remember a few weeks down the line, and not everything has a participative audience model.

Sometimes, like it or not, fans are just that. Fans. Consumers. Not, say, the guardians of their fandom's hallowed integrity.

I hope I'll never have to be in the same group as people like this, but I fear it'll happen someday. Especially if there's ever going to be made a MLP:FiM movie. Certain people (you know the type) will probably hail it as the BEST MOVIE EVAR, when it's actually just mediocre.
I highly doubt any true brony would make death threats love and tolarate after all
though there might be some firing of the orbital friendship cannon over it

Rather enjoyed the response. Well said. Not that "Facebook-based" is a step in the right direction, but this is why I stay the hell away from any and all fandoms, even of things I actually like: certain people become legitimately ugly over the things they enjoy. Something that ultimately has nothing to do with them and no consequence in their lives is taken on as something deep and integral to their very being, and any perceived attacks on that is something to be fought with all of their might, only worsened by the internet, a largely anonymous venue without consequences for one's actions, no matter how depraved and disturbing. It's legitimately depressing, and no amount of logic and reason from me can do anything about it, so I just stay away from it.

Stuff like this doesn't help.

Both of those categories of people can be just as obnoxious and irritating as anyone else, by the way, and frequently are, especially when you have a differing opinion on their beloved vice. They just tend to be a lot more passive-aggressive.

The review? The review was fine. I'm about tired of everyone acting like Heath Ledger is the only thing that made The Dark Knight decent (which is all I thought it was, by the way, but that's neither here nor there), though; speaking as someone who didn't know who Heath Ledger was, what movies he's been in, or that he was dead by the time I saw the movie, I thought he overplayed a part and smacked his lips a lot. Not really detrimental to the movie (it's not like hammy actors and The Joker character are strangers), but hardly the shining point of it.

The review itself was reasonable, thoughtful, and supported all of its claims fine, though. Whether you agree with it doesn't matter; nothing within it merits anything close to animosity or insults.

bane isnt sexy or charismatic enough villain???
Not sure about the first one, but charisma tends to be the single largest attraction of a good villain - especially in overblown comic book style. It's demonstrated quite clearly by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight: imagine him replaced by "generic world-dominating supervillain #6430", and what have you got left? A bunch of explosions and a dressed-up guy beating on people.

I'm probably quite jaded by never really getting the fuss about Dark Knight, but her review seems a well-worded opinion piece that clearly explains why she did or did not like aspects of the movie.

I've seen death threats on facebook and TF2.

At this point, I'm not surprised by online death threats.
