The Linux kernel is then talked to by a base operating system, such as KDE or Gnome, and then (often) translated into a GUI (Graphical User Interface) such as Ubuntu, Mint, Slackware, Debian, Fedora Core, Red Hat, Damn Small Linux, Puppy Linux, etc etc etc...
