I dont care either way, I would rather have people counterfeit money than steal mine. Most of the money spent in the US at least is all 0's and 1's in a computer somewhere anyway, and credit cards mean that money supply can be changed drastically in legal ways so I dont see that it's as big a problem as the government makes it out to be. Thats just my opinion.

I really wish the "in full faith and credit of the US government was in gigantic bold letters. I am sick of people who think that for every US dollar out there, teh government has one dollar of gold. They dont, i doubt they even have a penny worth of gold for every dollar out there. And more people need to understand that the only reason, and im being serious here, that The us dollar bill is worth one dollar, is beccause the US governement says that it is.

what IM wondering is why does is say "MEN SPECIMEN SPECIMEN N SPECIMEN SPECIMEN SPE CIMEN SPECIMEN SPECIMEN" ON THE BACK!?
It's a watermark on the picture itself (it won't appear on the actual bill), so that some schmuck doesn't try to print the image out on a color printer and pass it off as real money.

[small]Not that that would stop some people....[/small]

It doesn't matter how good or bad it looks, because in Britain, you can make a crease in the paper money and make the queen smile or frown. It's funny, and therefore, we win.
A friend can make the twin towers on a dollar, so there!

Pffft... That's nothing compared to what you can make Liz II do on an Aussie $5

See, the new one actually looks like money. American money has always looked really sparse to me; even the old Canadian bills didn't have huge blank areas. I'm always surprised that counterfitting isn't a bigger problem in the States.

It's not that ridiculous, why do you call your dollars "bucks"? (If you're american)
I'm pretty sure it's because, way way back in the day, a buck would be worth a dollar. So they would call one dollar a 'buck'.

As anyone from the UK will attest, when you are holding a £50 note you feel like your holding a slice of the holy fucking grail, seriously they are rare...

Isnt the foil thing what almost every other country has been doing for years?

Anyway I like the Austrailian money. Water proof is always a good thing
I've put hundreds of dollars through the wash in my life time, never had have an issues coming out the other side. Actually, they usually end up feeling newer when they come out. >__>

I use GBP whic is perhaps more fragile than your american dollars. Whever it goes through the wash it comes out a mess

It's nice to have a bit of a change up every so often, and it's about time some extra security came along. Especially with such high denomination bills.

That's money laundering.

Oh yeah. I went there.

I personally dislike American bills due to the fact that they are all the same colour and such. I enjoy my own Canadian currency with Monopoly-esque colours. I also dislike one dollar bills, loonies are much nicer :D

More on topic, I do like the new design more. The addition of colour is nice. It is less like all the rest, hoping the rest don't follow the exact same redesign.
one of my girlfriends was canadian... ya'll have the dumbest names for the most random shit. I say that respectfully, of course.

It's like Canada has an identity crisis. Should they act more American or more European?
More European, for sure!

Also, what dumb names? I am curious.
I don't even remember all of them to be honest (although, perhaps the most pronounced of European influence was in the pronunciation of certain words, such as pardon (pardone, like in French) and the like). But the thing I couldn't stop laughing at was "Loonies". Aren't there other ones like that too? Like toonies, copper, etc. - or something like that?

I suppose when viewed from the perspective that we still call one cent coins "pennies", it's not THAT weird.. but seriously? Loonies?
They have loons on them, that's why their called loonies. Makes sense to me...

Edit: Damn... ninja'd

It doesn't look that bad, and anything to thwart counterfeiters is a good idea, as long as the government doesn't go overboard...

And, because people have brought up the plastic Aussie money:
