Please...please let it be that cancelled steampunk batman game. As for a leading villain...Wow...in the arkham storyline, we're kinda running out of major league villains, huh?
Croc's dead (despite a secret in arkham city suggesting he's somewhere in the sewers although he never personally appears to my knowledge), he ate scarecrow (presumably, anyway), hugo strange is dead, rahs al ghul (sp?) is dead, the goddamned joker...For a non lethal hero, bats is racking up quite the body count.

The details of the latest (spoilerific) DLC suggest harley quinn might be next up, but I'm not sure whether she can really hold up a main antagonist role.

What about the riddler? Thing is, it'd be hard for the riddler to pose a large scale threat without either straying from his MO or making the entire game a string of puzzles.

So yeah...not sure where to go with main atagonists here, but just...make it steampunk. Then, presumably, we don't have to worry about the new villain? C'mon...you get a slightly easier to write story, we get that badass steambat, win win, rocksteady/WB.
End of Arkham Asylum shows:

Scarecrow grabbing the Titan.
Bane grabbing the Titan.
Croc grabbing the Titan.

Since Bane is alive and kicking in City, gotta assume Scarecrow and Croc are too.

About Ra's.

Ra's "thing" is coming back from death.

I and I don't really believe Joker is dead. Plus Clayface could be immortal now.

Personally I'd like something like the Hush story, where it's Riddler and Hush working together to take down Batman.

Aha, I forgot I hadn't completed arkham city completely yet...that last catwoman bit had me quite stumped as to how I was supposed to get through the museum, and I forgot all about it. Thanks for clearing that up, anyhow.

What happens after the Catwoman section where you take down Two-Face? I havent played that far before because I got so frustrated at how hard it was.

I wouldn't mind them doing a Batman game based around Jeph Loeb's 'Hush' story arc or even Grant Morrison's Doctor Hurt character. Both of these would mean loads of villains could be included and all linked, just like in Asylum and City.

OR! Or some kinda Batman murder mystery like in (my favourite Batman series of all time) The Long Halloween.

Just stumbled across this rather interesting article.

I admit, these Batman games are awesome, but after the death of the Joker, what could they do now? There are more speculation and rumours dotted around the net as well.

Your thoughts?
GOD DAMNITT
SERIOUSLY GIVE A SPOILER ALERT

The Joker probably wont even stay dead anyway.

Arkham Universe vs Marvel.

I think I may have won...then again I haven't checked page 2. Maybe they're going to do what Lego Batman 2 is doing and introduce some more new characters. Have Superman come in and make Luthor the central antagonist. Just a thought.

That's true, but the Joker is the iconic Batman villain. Even before the games or movies if you were to ask someone who was Batman's nemesis they would go with the Joker.

Honestly I'm not sure who would be best for a Big Bad spot, what with Joker dead, as well as Ras and Hugo. Then again I'm not all that familiar with the Batman franchise.
The Joker will be back. He has the tendency to come back after even the most inescapable deaths, and I doubt this will be any different. The term Joker immunity was coined for a reason.

Besides, as long as they kept basically the same mechanics as Arkham City, they could easily either reboot it or just have it set before Arkham Asylum and City, negating the problem.

EDIT: As for who could voice him since Mark Hamhill isn't anymore, if they did a good enough job casting the next Joker people might not even notice. (My vote is for Dave Wittenberg BTW.)

They should get Miracle Of Sound xD

Jokes aside, i thought only Hamil voiced the Joker...in like everything other than the live action Jokers, for obvious reasons.

I didn't read all the posts but I scanned them and didn't see anyone mention the numerous voice mails that were left for Batman in the credits..

they have to be eluding to something for the next game.

Oooh i know, hence i mentioned Miracle of Sound to do the new Joker :p

I was just saying, Mark has voiced pretty much every incarnation of Joker, your post made it seem like others have?

I don't know how you got that idea, I merely said that they'll have to find somebody new to voice Joker, and I put up a suggestion.

For a second I thought you meant flash as in a game on like newgrounds but a flash game would be really cool as long as it isn't Sonic except even worse.

I feel like there's no way to do do this post without spoiling something so I'm just gonna have to cover most of it.

Are you seriously asking about how a dead character can ruin a comic book related franchise? Batman's universe alone has several methods of reviving them, like the Lazarus pit. The introduction of Ras al Ghul pretty much guarantees one is in that universe of the Arkham games.

Okay I don't think anything after this is too spoilery since it's speculation. There's also a chance of introducing Jason Todd back by the aforementioned method, as Joker asks Robin if he killed him previously then realises he's thinking of a previous Robin. There's plenty of story available for this to keep up, though in terms of expanding it would probably have to stick with something like a subtitle that doesn't make the size of the game world bigger but rather improves upon a good formula.

And don't forget, there was also a hidden Scarecrow section in the boat and Croc's empty cell too. So there is definitely plenty of foreshadowing of another sequel. That one domain that said "grand delusion" definitely sounds like a Scarecrow thing. My guess is he will be the primary villain for the next one. Considering the best parts of Asylum are the Scarecrow sections, it makes sense to me.
This. I was so disappointed when Scarecrow didn't turn up, but this has given me hope! Also Clayface fell into the Lazarus Pit at the end so I wanna see what could come of that...
