That's neato. Very pretty.

Now show me cartoon-shaded graphics in CryEngine 3.
TF3 will use the Cry-Engine 3, leading the way in amazing art style, until the hats re-arrive.

Unless they're also releasing new tools to make 3d modeling and animation easier and cheaper it won't matter. I think games are currently at the max graphical fidelity they can be while still leaving resources left for other things.

I really think graphics will plateau for a while until someone makes 3D animation significantly less time consuming.

That engine looks beautiful. It begs the question "Why does the Crysis 2 demo look like shit?"
No, it doesn't.

The trailer looks great, but it has a very different style than any animated films I've ever seen. Game engines tend to go for the photorealistic look, while films are more cartoony to avoid the uncanny valley. Two recent animated films, Tangled and Rango, both look absolutely stunning. But I'm not sure how "Achieved with CryEngine 3" would sound after the Disney castle appearance bit.

so to run crysis 3, you will need:
1 matter/antimatter reactor power supply
1 liquid hydrogen cooling system
12 parallel overclocked nvidia cards
4 4096-core Intel chips, overclocked to 10gHz
1 2160p Super-HD monitor

also, did the jeep in the video remind anyone else of the warthog from Halo?

Roughly my response. I just imagined Cortez's brilliantly shining bald head... and the goggles...

Anyway, off to change my underwear... and the rest of my clothes... and my wallpaper...

Grammar tangent: Incorrect "beg the question" usage. / end tangent

The first environment shown made me think of Red Dead Redemption. Probably 'cause I'm playing it right now, but still... imagine seeing New Austin rendered like that, with the face capture of L.A. Noire.

Though I have to say, until I see urban environments, I think the Frostbite engine in Battlefield 3 looks cooler overall.

The term CryEngine made me think of some kind of bizarre, artificial, weeping construct... perhaps it would beg for death, I don't know.
That is actually the hardware requirements.

And just think of all the same-y FPS games that will utilize it in the future. That's how we'll put it to good use; stretch the boundaries of brown and lense flare. [/cynic]

And that was pretty awesome. I really am looking forward to the future of gaming, but something tells me this is as realistic as we can get (albiet, a bit too shiny and blurry). I mean, that field and that car looked pretty damn lifelike. And if it's making games look like that in real time, I don't see how the CryEngine 4 will ever top it.

I still think that the Cry Engine 3 uses way too many shaders, just look from 0:17 to 0:25, the colour looks blurred and the light messes things up, its like the image has some kind of filter rape. Crysis 2 also has that "thing".
Same.

Does anyone want to explain to me how Crysis 1 looks better than Crysis 2 using older tech? I think it has something to do with consoles...
Because everyone knows the Devil has a PS3, and 360 right next to the pit of fire

It looks nice, I guess. I mean I can't really tell since it's only 720p youtube.
I still remember the first time I saw the tech trailers for Crysis. Inspired me to build my machine.

I predict that we will continue to see almost NOBODY licensing Cryengine for other games though. Do they just charge too much for licensing or what? I can't understand why no one uses it.

Because they developed for consoles this time around and didn't want xbox users crying about it. Additionally they dropped down its PC specs because too many PC users were whining about not being able to run it.

So basically it's everyone's fault. People complain about it being too hard on their machines, so then they drop the specs down, and now people complain about it not looking good enough. I think the lesson here is that devs should not listen to people bitching on the internet (unless of course, it is about a desperately needed patch or something of the sort).

You don't need a very high-end machine at all to run this at max spec ATM. Why? Because they don't have a game that even utilizes DirectX 10/11 with CryEngine 3 yet. And if rumors are to be believed, Crysis 2 won't have support for those until later, either. Currently, I do believe the rumors, because I e-mailed several of Crytek's divisions a good three days ago, asking about DirectX support at launch, and they haven't even had the decency to tell me that they can't reveal that information. Not a single peep.
Crysis 2 will have out the box direct x 11 support

Honestly people...We don't need better graphics. Games are going to get to damn expensive for smaller companies to make.

Which is funny, and kind of odd, because Crysis 1 was one of the first games to use DirectX 10.
Well not really since he hasnt done any research that the even demo has a directx11 option on the pc. Main game full support on directx11 11 lighting and tessellation it was in some video card press release ages ago in 2010 which also featured the cryengine 3 which can do those features. I am more amazed how much of a directx 11 drive EA has gone on BFBC2,Battle forge, Dragonage 2, Crysis 2, MOH and the up coming Battlefield 3!
