It's on comedy central instead of fox what to you people expect? Of course it's going to be dirtier and it walked the line just fine in both episodes. They were funny and had well standing story lines. As for leela getting it on with zapp, it wasn't the first time and her choice was that or be destroyed, you'd suck a dick too.

I don't see the first 2 episodes as really being Futurama back in its stride. They're just getting a bunch of jokes about the changes Futurama has undergone out of the way. First one was a tongue in cheek look at how they need to get back on the air, on a different channel, and figure out a way to get things back to normal. Second episode was a parody on how the standards for adult content are now a lot lighter, so they can get away with more crazy thing (Those fig leaves were a little on the...small side...don't you think?). So naturally, they had to end with gratuitous, shockingly unnecessary sex.

It's hit and miss but that's what I was expecting. The original series was hilarious, and this one has a lot to live up to so I think you've got to give it some leeway. But yeah, the second episode was a bit odd. Also, what was funny at the end of Season 4 was Fry's constant attempts to wow Leela which...obviously isn't needed now.
It's the same with the Simpsons. The new episodes are so iffy - some are good but some are just like...what?
That is true, I mean I LOVE Futurama more then the Simpsons but im not just being prejudice, alot of Simpson comedy is abit random now, and I know its been said but (once more with gusto) its trying to be like Family Guy simply because they cant think up any new ideas, I mean there was a episode where Abe Simpson marries Selma!? But still Futurama has alot more leg space and its my second favourite Western show after Southpark, Benders funny 100% of the time, Leelas soooooo sexy and Zap is without a doubt the best secondary character in any series along with Gai and Kenpachi. The new series not out in England yet but I cant wait, just give it time its only the second episode.

Apparently I'm one the only people to like the second episode much more than the first. See, to me, the first felt too fast. They put in so many problems to cope with (Bender is damaged, Leela's in a coma, robo-Leela shows up, tension between Robo-Fry, Leela, and Robo-Leela, and then everything gets fixed in the last 2 minutes. I could really tell that the whole point of the episode was to reset everything for the new season.

I loved the second episode, however. So many good lines, and I wasn't really bothered by Leela and Zap getting it on at the end. It's not like they hadn't already been there.

I thought Rebirth seemed a little "meh", whereas the second episode was far better, aside from the ending. I do agree that the ending sucked, but its the only problem I had with it.

All in all, I'm looking forward to more.

I could bet you all that they're working on getting things back to a state of "normalcy" as far as the Futurama Universe is concerned. For example, they had everyone cloned and brought back to life in the first episode then had the robot drama thing with the fake Fry/Leela then the thing with Bender having to party or 'splode all the time... They fixed that all and brought it back to a state of "normal" so that they can do more things without apparent consequence. My guess is that they are trying to look for a way to separate Fry and Leela to bring it back to where it was before the movies, but I could be wrong. They may want to keep Freela together in order to make up new story lines.

Regardless, I'm just glad that they had a lot of subtle throwbacks to the past seasons without hitting the uninitiated audience over the head with the content.

Also, Futurama was *always* more story driven than random. For the first few seasons there was the overarching story of Fry always trying to get Leela, not to mention all the other things that went on. The characters are living in a world where their past actions remain there in the present (they are affected by all of the previous decisions) and I suppose that's most notable with the Fry/Leela thing, but I'm blabbing on now.

Give it a month or two before you decry it completely. I loved 'em, and can't wait to watch them with another big group of friends this Thursday!

I enjoyed them quite a lot. But it's only two episodes in, give it some time before you write the whole thing off (as good or bad).

okay, i did find that scene strange, but i found rebirth even weirder. The fact that Leela and Fry went out and made robot copies of each other, even though in an earlier episode everyone warns Fry about dating the robot Lucy Lu(spelling? w/e) and no one was opposed to them doing it in this episode. Hell, Hermes even downloaded Leela's personality onto the robot for Fry.

Was the new That 70's Show season as good as the old? About the same but the new characters there to replace the old ones seemed weird for most of the old viewers because there didn't seem to be much of a period of getting to know them but I digress.

I used to find Futurama funny when I was younger, but goddamn now its just random and unfunny for me so I didn't even bother to watch the new episodes.

I enjoyed both of them. I laughed my self into a near coma when Zapp was talking about having babies with Leela, but then went "Ewww!!!" when he said their kids would have babies.

I liked both of the new episodes but, I did think that it was kind of weird that Leela didn't hesitate or anything.

QUESTION:

I've seen the 4 movies:
Benders Game
Into the wild green yonder... etc

Are these episodes you are talking about completely new ones? I didn't realize they existed.

Rebirth was brilliant.

The second episode? Leela bones Zapp... with zero hesitation... in front of Fry...

It only took two episodes for them to hit the low point of the entire fucking series. Grats.
That's called an opinion.
My opinion is that both new episodes were great.
Neither of our opinions are objective fact and should not be stated as such.
Weird. I thought the fact that it was coming out of my mouth (or keyboard) necessarily meant it was an opinion. Apparently I need to begin every sentence with the phrase "in my opinion". Otherwise people (let's call them "intellectually challenged") might mistake my subjective takes for objective truth. Very dangerous stuff, honestly; my dismissal of any number of things might completely change the personality of vulnerable people!

Moving on... having Leela sex Zapp for a cheap laugh at the end of the most recent episode was just incredibly stupid. There are any number of characters they can mess around with for that sort of thing. I'm someone who adores the show and has followed the arc of Fry and Leela very closely, and that ending was extremely off-putting. And yes, I'm well aware that it's an animated show written for comedy, but Futurama has always had a certain amount of heart. That's what separates it from pretty much every other animated show on television.

Edit: and the whole "they'd already done it before..." bit? Yeah, there's been a little bit of character development since the fourth episode of the first season. Anyways, if they explain it away in the third episode of this season, fine, whatever. It just left a very, very sour taste in my mouth.

Also, very much exaggerating here. I thought Rebirth was brilliant, and the second episode was average until the very end. That ending just happens to be my least favorite part of the entire series by no small margin, so I'm torn as to whether or not I'm even glad the show is back.

Yes, I agree with this, especially that Futurama has a lot of heart in its characterisation lost in other cartoons. It does strike me as kind of going out of its way to be shocking not to mention the kind of thing that muddles up the relationship apsect of the plot, hadn't Fry and Leela just finally conceded that they loved each other? They couldn't even last two episodes after that before something mucks it up? I mean yes I suppose it was kind of clever and shocking but I'd rather that Leela realises they are still on Earth and just beats him up instead of being somewhat forced to copulate with him for the good of the human race.

I'm just saying, one thing I had been looking forward to in this series was this new angle of Fry and Leela as a couple and how the writers would go with it given that it has been built up towards for about five seasons and now something has to come and mess it up considerably. One can argue that this gives room for plot development as they move on from this ugly incident but still, usually you get at least ten episodes before the 'tension' card gets pulled out.

Ah well, here's hoping that this whole incident doesn't ruin that whole angle of Fry and Leela as a couple which again I want to stress was one of the main reasons I wanted to see how this new season went about things.

EDIT: Incidently I just realised something, considering the Planet Express team (and Kiff who defected so that he could be with Amy) were last time seen as hunted fugitives by Zapp himself isn't it a tad silly to then just have them working together again as if nothing happened. Wouldn't it make more sense for Zapp to end up as the new villain for the show?
