This game will be awesome. (More of a message to Epic that if they fuck it up... well I'll fuck them up) The first game is my all time favorite shooter, the second had a good story campaign and they added in some good new elements - horde, mortar etc. - but the multiplayer (matchmaking in particular) was lacking and they ended up having to roll out all their DLC in the space of 8 months to keep people playing, yet now there is another year before the next installment.

I really hope they don't mess this up.

I am personally hoping they don't do something stupid like 'Seriously 3.0 - Get 1,000,000 kills'. I have managed to get all achievements except Seriously 2.0 and Rank 100. It pisses me off because putting 200 hours+ into grinding is not something a fan should be expected to do in order to show "dedication" as Cliffy B puts it.

Seriously 3.0 - Go outside.

I have every achievement except level 100 (and I have been pretty cheated out of that for a few reasons) but that won't be a huge issue for me, though a level 100 achievement (which boosting takes longer than a legit 10th Prestige assuming they use the same level system) when it just takes so long. I would like some achievements that are more challenging though, rather than just time consuming as they have been in both previous games.

I assume you did the grind for Seriously on that Derrick level where the Locust come out of the ground? I have been tempting to for it but seeing how long it takes has put me off.

I have beaten the campaign around 5 times, done all the horde achievements and reached level 50 on Ranked (plus Sergeant on the old system) and still only have around 29,000 kills. It's just crazy.

Yeah Act 5 Chapter 5. I was offline for about a week, back when it first came out, so I went and did that for a while - had original 1000G's back in 07.

Level 50 is nothing honestly, experience wise, halfway is about 85 and the 80's just seem to drag on forever. If you want your achievement, Act 5 Chapter 5 is the way to go, don't play through the entire level, get to like the 2nd check point then reset.

That's my whole excuse for not caring how far I get past level 50. I got that achievement, and I'm never going to get the level 100 achievement, so whatever. I just play online for the fun of it on occasion, now.

Same here. As much as I like having games I enjoyed done to completion, I really cannot be bothered to grind that much just to do so in this case. Especially considering how multiplayer requires giving up control a little bit (potentially poor connections, teams etc.) At least single player ones can be consistent.

Get a team of decent players, Guardian, don't kill enemy leader. 83% XP goes a long way. I was banned from Live over the 12 days of gearsmas using my second account (that had never played a game online) I got it to level 61, it's not that hard or that time consuming in comparison.

*Take note when I say don't kill their leader I'm talking 100+ kills in a game, spend less time searching more time playing. Hopefully you opponents will quit and you can verse bots. Also be aware this is a form of grinding and is not for some people who get bored, do not allow these kinds of people into your rooms.

Good advice but sadly I lack the people on my friends list who'd take the time, only one friend still plays Gears 2 and he doesn't have the time.

Which makes me curious, how come you haven't got 100 yet then?

Well apart from being banned from Live multiple times, and being reset at level 58 because my friend "accidentally" glitched his account I've suffered from broken xbox's last year I hardly played due to year 12 and my parents are quite anti-gears of war. I've put 17 days of playtime into this game, seen 8 of my friends reach 100 (including the first legit Australian!) and I'm only 86. I also only recently upgraded my internet connection and acquired the ability to host matches, before I always had to wait for someone to get online.

Also I'm out of Gold at the moment and lack the funds to purchase anymore.

I feel the same. But hey, you can't win them all I s'pose.
This may be the reason I buy an Xbox, cos I always liked Gears but it never played well on my PC, so I got bored of it.

They've completed their trilogy of epic advertisements. I cannot wait.

On a side note, I'm glad most of the discussion here is fairly serious. I checked out the Gamespot forums before and it was full of threads where some guy would say "Hey look, there's a new trailer" followed by 50 posts of people saying "omg the locust queen is yr mom"

The Gears' trailers always make me giggle. It's the music I think. They used that Donnie Darko song, Mad World in the last one. It just seems out of place somehow.
