New Pokemon Anime Is Set In The First Generation

I think its going to be a short few episodes special type thing. I cant imagine they'll run two concurrent series when they rely on the cartoon to do a lot of the merchandise advertising.

This anime does seem to have an ending. Bulbapedia however made it sound like a one time anime special.

I actually do hope that this becomes an OVA type of deal.

I also hope- if popular enough- it extends to the other games as well.

I think it's confirmed to be an OAV special, though I wish it would be a season long show. If it does well enough, they may do one for each region, I would love to have a Unova themed special like this.

I'm really expecting this, I was sure Red would choose Charmander, I mean, effin' RED.

Anyways, I'd like this becoming a new series, like a reboot of the anime with a super talented Pokemon Master that actually ages, so we'd end with a 16-17 years old Red at the finale.

I admit, it was a good twist in the first season when Ash lost after believing he would definitely win, but they seriously pushed it.

To be honest, I stopped watching Pokemon back in the day because of Ash. He is unintelligent, arrogant, jealous, overly aggressive and has no talent worth mentioning.
The only reason he got as far as he did, was because of his Pikachu, which has the talent to train itself, and make up new moves as it goes.

Ash is to Red, what Gordon Froman is to Gordon Freeman.

Colour me intested. The Art style looks just like the art work Ken Sugimori did for LeafGreen and FireRed so that's actually cool. Wonder if Leaf will appear. Looking forward to the main character frantically looking for a Dugtrio in order to stop Surges Raichu kicking the dick out of them.

If memory serves, Red picked Bulbasaur in the manga, while Green took Charmander, so it's not just a direct anime-ing of the manga. Nothing against that, the original Kanto manga wasn't really kid-friendly (zombies, beheadings, etc.), but it does seem to be pointing more in the direction of the games than even the manga did at times (as for Ash's anime...well, I'll just say "Thunder armor" and leave it at that). In any case, I'd rather a series with a specific run-time that was low on filler, but if I had to pick between a short series of specials and the filler-fest that the current anime is, I'd go with the former.

(Also Torchic is best starter. In Kanto it's Charmander, but I wish we had the choice to grab an Eevee like the rival does in Yellow. Eeveelutions > everything.)

Squirtle must be the japanese name for Bulbasaur. It's going after the japanese logic after all. They are basing it on Red, so Green(Blue in the US) should pick the titular Squirtle(Bulbasaur.)

I see neither Ash nor Red as real characters. Red was a voiceless personification of you in the video game. Ash's personality and flaws were made for the sole purpose to help sell the merchandise to children and extend the show.

Perhaps this show will change that, but Nintendo has a problem with comes to actual talking characters.

As the kind of person who knows that it's a Nidorino (with its round body and pointy ears) fighting the Gengar, I am excited for this. It's good enough that I can still play the original games on my Gameboy Advance SP (lasted 11 years and counting, with the games not tarnished by a run-down time system), but this is great!
