Like many I'm tired of the same old Elf, Human, Orc, Dwarf set up of most open ended RPGs. So any Ideas on new ones?

Here are a few of mine

A Beast race that is Half man half Bear.
An Alien race that isn't reptilian, psyonic, and parasitic.
Rock People.

Rock people has been done before. Gorons.
But Dragon people would be kick ass. With wings and scally skin.

...Hows about a race of people (indeterminate physical appearance) who transform into the thing they fear most under moolight? I figure why the hell not...
Or how about guys who control their bone structure and mass?
EDIT: Second on the dragon-themed dudes-- that is, unless you've read that one Dragonlance...

If they transformed due to moonlight, then they would all probably fear the moon. So they would all be transforming into the moon.

I'm just joking. That's a creative idea.

What if the thing they fear the most is a concept?

Sounds like an experiment that Scarecrow for batman would make.

With imagination and a bit of LSD, it's possible to make anything work. If you've seen either of the latter two Pirates of the Carribean movies (yech!), you'll know what I mean. Just try not to think about...certain things, otherwise you might find yourself going blind. Keep in mind, you might have to anthropomorphise a large amount of these things.

like pigsy from "A journey to the west" a very old Chinese folk tale, for a pig man

and (ultra nerd go!) if you do a multiclass sorc/red dragon disciple in neverwinter nights one feat you get is dragon skin (increased natural armor) and you get wings at like lvl 5 with red dragon disciple.

But seriously, I like the idea of dragon people. Maybe even some kind of bug creature.

Ooh, ooh! An interesting topic! I would have a race of hyper-intelligent monkey-rat people, who enjoy hunting feral gnomes.

Hmmm, check your scifi games, especially Master of Orion. I know it's a strategy game, but they had some interesting races that you could play as. Bulrathi were bear people, they were really aggressive, tough, but kind of stupid.

For the 'not reptilian/psyonic/parasitic alien' there were the darlok. Basically, they were super spies - it was the only bonus that they got. They didn't have a set shape so they could appear to be whatever they wanted.

Rock people, you had silicoids. They ate rocks, looked like rocks, and were as easy to deal with as rocks. They couldn't ever be negotiated with. No, really - once they declared war on you there was no choice but to exterminate their entire species or be exterminated yourself.

I would say wise turtle people, but everyone would play them as surf-talking ninjas.

Maybe insectoids or jackals like Anubis. I definitely like the idea of bears.

That's some pretty deep thinking. I applaud you.

Given that dragon people are a core race in the most recent edition of D&D, I'm gonna have to say that's not new. It goes back to Dragonlance in the 80's anyway.
I say we need a race of platypus-people.

An open-ended RPG like Oblivion, Fable or Fallout but with a heavy H.P. Lovecraft setting would be sweet.

Also I like Raiha's living fire idea.
