New RPG races

I think there's a reason those races have been around for so long. By now, they're synonymous with fantasy RPG's so the best we can hope for is variation on a theme, like the Elves in Dragon Age being second class citizens.

Given that dragon people are a core race in the most recent edition of D&D, I'm gonna have to say that's not new. It goes back to Dragonlance in the 80's anyway.
I say we need a race of platypus-people.

Like many I'm tired of the same old Elf, Human, Orc, Dwarf set up of most open ended RPGs. So any Ideas on new ones?

Here are a few of mine

A Beast race that is Half man half Bear.
An Alien race that isn't reptilian, psyonic, and parasitic.
Rock People.

A beast that is half man, half bear, and half pig!

A race of necromantic raider people. They live in the mountains, and raid settlements, generally cannibalizing in victory of a successful pillaging. Then they stitch the corpses into foul creatures, and re-animate them to serve as puppets.

Actually. Don't use that. I'm already using that in my RP.

Anyways, what about a race of people who have shells like snails? They would be nomads who would be kinda like centaurs, except their lower torso would be embedded into a shell.
Ooh! And then you would have hermit ones who would raid other people's shells, and take them as their own!

..........I have to draw that..

EDIT: Another idea! How about a race of midget people, who are about the size of a football, but have extreme mastery over stone and earth, and create large exoskeletons out of it?
I dunno.. Just spit-balling ideas..

Living metal creatures would be interesting. Like able to use their arms as swords and such. And no I am not talking robots or anything like that. I mean sentient metal deposits.

But seriously, I like the idea of dragon people. Maybe even some kind of bug creature.

An open-ended RPG like Oblivion, Fable or Fallout but with a heavy H.P. Lovecraft setting would be sweet.

Also I like Raiha's living fire idea.

It would be sweet but I doubt that it will ever happen. Unless you know some influential employees of a certain developer personally.

Anything that doesn't look like a modified human being. I'm sick of bipeds and bilateral symetry. How about something like a massive, intelligent starfish, or better yet, a colony organism that gets more powerful as the colony population increases.
