I would say wise turtle people, but everyone would play them as surf-talking ninjas.

Maybe insectoids or jackals like Anubis. I definitely like the idea of bears.

Given that dragon people are a core race in the most recent edition of D&D, I'm gonna have to say that's not new. It goes back to Dragonlance in the 80's anyway.

Yes because then you would have to deal with Al Gore even more often than ususal.
OT: I don't know, a race of flea-like beings. Really I don't know of any race that could work in an MMO that hasn't been made already.

Already being done. There is supposed to be a DBZ MMO on the way. Oh wait nevermind that actually, because now that I remember it is supposed to be set so far in the future from anything pertaining to the Dragonball franchise that the only beings that could be related to sayians are only about 1/156,000 sayian anyways, so it really wouldn't count.
Although you get Namekians somehow. And a race of whatever the hell Majin Buu is.

I had an idea while canoing through a ghost wood on a lake a while back
Half dead half alive. not zombies but ghostly. During the day they would be blurred by sunlight and seem hazy. During the night they glow and have a breeze following around them. The last of a race that was all but killed when their lands sunk. and just a taste of powers to add some mix
Phasing in/out
high magic useage
good damage resitance becasue they are ethearal
druid type?

Leaf people that can assemble into a hive mind or cricket people who are awesome at the bard class as their legs can be played like violins. Maybe space people made of dark energy/tiny black holes or dark matter and depending on what stage of their life they're at the mini star inside them is a different type e.g when they die you go supernova and when you age you slowly become a red giant.

Pretty much every animal/human hybrid has been thought of already, used endlessly, and perverted by furry porn.

Let's see, stuff I've encountered in fiction...

Skroderiders, a breed of intelligent trees that have no short-term memory; they have to consult a memory bank in order to carry on a conversation. (A Fire on the Deep by Verner Vinge)

Tines, a dog-like race in which each pack is an individual, and individual pack members are thought of as body parts. (A Fire on the Deep by Verner Vinge)

All the hominid races of the Ringworld books by Larry Niven (which would make an awesome video game, I think), as well as some of his other races, the Kzinti, for example, tho they're sort of like nine foot tall cats with rat tails.

The thing about different races in a game, is that for the most part, people want to play something that's at least mostly human. Like elves, dwarves, werewolves, and furries, zombies, demons. What I'm more interrested in is how they balance the playable races and if they make sense.
