I quite like Dillinger. But, it's one of those bands you can't listen to all the time. It becomes old really quick, I've found (after 2 listens in a row).
The Flaming Tsunami vid you posted was interesting. It really had me listening, then I heard the singer. It sounds as though he doesn't know how to scream/growl at all, and is ripping his vocal chords to pieces. Apart from the singing, it was alright.

And yes, the vocals of The Flaming Tsunamis is grating at first...it took me ages to get used to them, but I love the blend of ska and hardcore. They've not done too bad considering they're not hugely successful... although they're breaking up after they release their new album. Oh wells.
Also, are you a fan of punk? It's my preferred genre and can recommend some great bands if you're interested in something very different to metal?
Both of those were actually really good. I had my doubts at first, when I heard the symphonic elements, but once it got into it, I thought it was great. The blastbeats complement the symphonic sounds quite nicely, and I like the sudden change of direction the second song takes.SmashLovesTitanQuest said:Carach Angren are really good, both of there albums are masterpieces. Im hesitant to recommend them even though you said you liked all kinds of metal, you might like them if youre into melodic stuff even though they have a very harsh sound.
Just two random songs, you have to listen to their albums all the way through though. Both are concept albums that tell one story throughout all songs.
I just had a quick listen to Devil Sold his Soul (sounds like The Ocean with high screams), and Neurosis (also, reminds me of the Ocean).AnarchistFish said:Someone here needs some Progressive Death Metal.
Try
Opeth - Blackwater Park (progprogprog)
Devil Sold His Soul - Blessed & Cursed (this and the next one mix post-hardcore with post-metal. p.cool)
Amia Venera Landscape - The Long Procession
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
Tool - Lateralus
Dir En Grey - Dum Spiro Spero
Deftones - White Pony (because any music list without Deftones is incomplete)
Mastodon - Leviathan
Neurosis - Through Silver In Blood (sludgesludgesludge)

Bugger it, doesn't matter, as long as the music's good.
I used to be really into punk, but my preferences changed after I started to listen to technical metal. Now, punk seems slow and simple to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to belittle what you listen to. But, for me, I like a bit more on the technical side of things, something I can really study and pick something new up every time I listen, and I haven't seen punk express such technical aspects. Just personal preference.
But, if there are any bands you think fits into that category, by all means, let me know. You've been great so far![]()
More to add to the listAnarchistFish said:I can't stand HORSE :s

I didn't see the edit until I pressed quote, but if you're looking for something mold (mould?) breaking and interesting, I'd recommend the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Huge variety of stuff, and their genre is collectively referred to as 'Funk Rock'. I imagine you've heard of them, but still.theseworlds said:Ahoy hoy. I've been going through music, and found its rather bland all of a sudden. I've listened to it all to death.
What do you recommend?
I'm mostly into albums that have to be listened to as a whole to fully appreciate it. One or two songs worth listening to, and I don't see the point.
I'm talking albums like:
Ana Kefr - The Burial Tree
Devin Townsend Project - Deconstruction
Between the Buried and Me - anything from Alaska onwards
The Ocean - Heliocentric/Anthropocentric
NAMI - Fragile Alignments
Apart from this, I really dig bands that incorporate a strong harmony between their instruments. No chuggy-chuggy stuff.
By this, I mean bands like:
Dreamshade
The Human Abstract (except Midheaven. That album was putrid)
Misery Signals
Born of Osiris
For discussion purpose, do you have similar tastes, and why? What do you look for in music?
If I had to answer, I'd say, I look for music I can study, music that takes a few listens to fully appreciate it, and then a few more to fully enjoy it.
Post away!
EDIT: I'm into metal. I like just about any genre, but metal comes out on top for me every time. Probably should have specified that from the beginning...

Argh. I can't get into Danger Days.Trivun said:My Chemical Romance - listen to both The Black Parade and Danger Days, as they are actually different styles anyway as the band have evolved and changed over time.
Aaaah, I guess that's a fair point. Punk can be technical, but nowhere near as crazy as metal. One of my favourites are the immortal NOFX although I'm sure you've heard of them so I won't clutter the post with an example song. Lyrically they're one of the best bands I have ever experienced, simply for diversity.theseworlds said:Hmm, alright. Seems like they're picking at tidbits.

Haha, let's here it straight from a guy who hates HORSE the Band then...why do you hate them? I'm not going to tell you you're wrong, I'm just curious.AnarchistFish said:I can't stand HORSE :s

Periphery's self-titled is amazing, as is their EP. I'm definitely a fan.Psycho-Toaster said:So kind of a prog metal guy. Ever listen to Meshuggah? Definitely worth checking out, I'd recommend their latest album, obZen. Also try Periphery's self-titled album, Ayreon's The Human Equation (Or really anything by Arjen Lucassen) and Godspeed You!
