New Zodiac Signs. Apparently people care about it.

No. No one cares. The thing is this won't make a difference at all, except to a) people who actually buy into astrology, and b) people born after the date this was implemented. So it hasn't altered my destiny or personality at all. I'm still as sexy of a scorpio as ever. =P

This is where I draw my confusion, am I what I am now or what I was before? This also brings a magnifying glass into how ridiculous astrology readings are seeing as we've apparently been doing them wrong for 3,000 years.

The explanation given was that said relative positions of the planets and stars and whatnot have shifted and as such the dates for such things must naturally shift as well. Which is a perfectly reasonable explanation given the rest of the stuff associated with this announcement.

Okay, the Earth isn't actually tilting differently. It's been tilted at about 23 degrees for as long as we can accurately figure. What's actually happening is called precession. The angle the Earth is tilted at relative to the plane of the solar system isn't changing, the direction the tilt is pointed is changing. Kind of like a wobbling top. Except without the falling over part.

Anyway, this doesn't really change anything about astrology, since the astrological signs have never, ever matched the actual constellations. For one thing, it's pretty obvious to even a casual stargazer that the zodiac constellations aren't all the same size. So why do the traditional zodiac signs all have the same length? Because it looks neater on paper and nobody who knew what they were talking about actually ever believed any of this garbage had anything to do with stars, that's why. Sorry, but that's the truth.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention, there's almost a fourteenth zodiac sign right in the middle of Pisces. It's called Cetus, and a part of the sky that's officially designated as belonging to Cetus comes so close the the ecliptic that the sun is actually partly in Cetus and partly in Pisces for a couple days. So it's kind of maybe a fourteenth zodiac sign already, depending on what you mean by it.
