Event Horizon and Starship Troopers for sci-fi.
Enemy at the Gates and The Pianist for war films (Well, The Pianist is set during the war, but is a good film)
Ummm...
I'll just recommend those for now.

What genre are we talking here? I mean, you could want something like The Deer Hunter, or maybe you could be looking for Office Space. What kind of stuff do you like?

Dead Poet's Society, or do a Lord of the Rings marathon (watch all three movies in a row, all extended editon).

Aw, no animated movies? I was going to recommend Princess Mononoke.

The films I would recommend would be se7en, the green mile, let me in (When that DVD comes out in December) and finally the first two Godfather movies.

EDIT: Shutter Island and Kick-Ass I love those movies.

Black Dynamite. A black dude fights crime and for black people's rights in the seventies. With a revolver. And kung fu. Just win. (made in 2009, so it's a parody).

Kill bills, if you haven't seen them. If you have, Kill Buljo, a Norwegian parody of them. Craaazy stuff.

And if you are feeling open-minded and wanna try out TV-show boxes, I'd go for the new Battlestar Galactica. 75 episodes for relatively cheap. Really good, plus it lasts a lot longer than any movie or movie series.

Fight Club, but if you want to watch something a little less obvious, how about Into The Wild or Four Lions

Y'know, partly trying to find some gems I wouldn't normally check out, trying to keep a real open mind here. ...Other than animated films haha.

Basically, my favourite film of all time is 'In Bruges', if that would give you a good indication? :].

Thanks so much for all these suggestions guys>:].

The Fifth Element.
Be confused... and amazed.

EDIT: Inception? Meh, it was alright, but the actual plot was terrible and there were soooo many plotholes.

The Visitor. It's a great movie about illegal immigration. I cried like a child watching that movie.
