Layer Cake.
You spelt it wrong, it's actually L4y3r C4k3.
Jokes, but did you actually enjoy that film? I found it to be a little bland in places. It's interesting sometimes, but I wouldnt say that it's top quality.
It's actually one of my all time favourite films. The plot is just as clever as a Guy Richie gangster film, but without all the over the top characters. It's well written, it's sophisticated, and it showcases some fantastic British acting talent; mixing established, upcoming and, well, sort of indie(?) style actors. If it's not your sort of film then these things wont matter to you one bit; but I think these are the elements that can turn a really good film into a truly great film. If you can't tell - I'm a fan.

Any of Park Chan Wook's Vengeance Trilogy (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Old Boy, Lady Vengeance). They are all stand alone movies. They share nothing is common except theme - guess :).

Beware they are Korean movies. And if you want to get the full experience you have to read subtitles or know Korean.

If you are in the mood for something different check them out. If they disturb you sorry.

The video did not show what I thought was single most disturbing scene. It's one of the main characters eating a meal at a small restaurant / carry out place. I doubt any American made movie could get away with it.

I've been reading the posts and I'm really surprised no one has mentioned Donnie Darko.

So yeah, Donnie Darko. Many movies about schizophrenia are petty and self-indulgent, but Darko gets it just right. Pretty remarkable film; however, avoid the director's cut. I know that sounds weird, but I think the director made a very different movie than the one he set out to make, a much better one. The original is more of a character study, and the director's cut a sci-fi about time-travel.

Jake Gyllenhaal is good. Frank the Bunny is scary as hell.

If those don't entertain you, then you suck.

What you say is true, I guess. Maybe the problem for me was that I set my expectations incorrectly. You see, I got it as part of a three dvd pack, along with Lock, stock, and two smoking barrels and snatch. I was aware that Layer Cake wasn't directed by ritchie, but I was expecting something with the same level of humour as well as complex plot.

Also, on the back of the case it said that It had Neo-Nazi's in it, and I was probably expecting a bit of smokin aces as well. Little did I know that the Neo-Nazis were only in the book, in the film it's siberian war criminals. Now that i think about it, I oughta re-watch this.

Oh yeah, it's nothing like Lock, Stock and Snatch. I think I'm right in saying that the director was Guy Richie's protege - or something similar. I can see why you might be disappointed if you were expecting cockneys and Neo-Nazis. It's more of a character and plot driven story than an action-based gangster film. If you're in the right mood, and if you have time, I'd definitely suggest you give it another try.
