Overplayed, Overrated.

I hate them more specifically for their lyrics as well as they're distaste for anyone who doesn't love them. Below are a few simple explanations of what they're songs are trying to say from "dark horse".

Gotta be somebody: Kroeger doesn't want to die alone.

Something in your mouth: Dude's inner monologue of watching that hot girl dance on the floor, but showing no initiative to be a part of it.

Burn it to the ground: Get drunk, break stuff, whip it out. He specifically conveys the need to get drunk and pull his b**ls out in the song and everyone who I know that likes nickelback and said they "loved" this song didn't realize this apparently.

Shakin' Hands: He sings about a high class prostitute. That's it

The only reason I think that nickleback is due to the way they're marketed. It's the same way with videogames like 50 Cent Bulletproof. Terrible game, great marketing. It went platinum and sucked, just like nickelback.

It's nothing but mindless "Jock-Rock". Don't get me wrong, I like some of it like Puddle of Mudd, 3 Doors Down, Creed, Alter Bridge and such but they only hold so much water in comparison. The general public likes this stuff because they make a catchy beat and it's something you can listen to without actually listening to it. It's background music.

Basically the band as a whole is fr people who haven't discovered the good music yet. Everything nickelback has done has been done better in some way. People are just lzy and looking for instant gratification and nickleback is kind of just right there in front of them and they go, close enough.

I would say the main problem with Nickelback is that every song of theirs sounds exactly the same as every other song of theirs. "Savin me" sounds like "someday" sounds like "If everyone cared" etc. Now, I don't hate their music because the one sound they have actually doesn't sound that bad to me, but I wouldn't spend money on their CDs when I could just buy one song off Itunes and listen to it fifteen times to get the same experience.

I hate Nickelback, because to me, they sound terrible. That's pretty much it. Boring lyrics, dull musicianship, bad production, and general blandness.

But then again, that's just my opinion. I have mine, you have yours.
Same here, and the fact that all their songs sound the same pretty much as well. But then again, there is a shit ton of bands I hate for that exact reason and not just Nickleback. But I think i just hate them the most... stupid Nickleback.

For me, it was because in Britain, a sofa company (I think it might have been DFS) used "Rockstar" in their adverts. After hearing a song you didn't like to begin with being played ad nauseum throughout the day will annoy you after a while.
Lol, whenever I hear a song in a commercial I forever associate it with that commercial. It ruins the song. For a song you already don't like (which sounds like it is the case with you and "Rockstar" it is even worse.

There are a lot worse bands out there in all honesty, I think they're okay.

Also, calling them unoriginal is like calling anyone who uses a certain word or phrase in a song unoriginal, of course someones done it before.

Oh, you know him personally do you? What makes him a douche with his head up his ass, I'm rather curious.

He defends any comment against his band with extreme zeal and thinks his shit doesn't stink. And he got the 'I bet this pickle can get more fans than nickelback' facebook group removed. He's SUCH a douche. And look at his hair...

Hmmmm... Someone defends their work, suddenly that makes them a douche? Sounds to me like you have something against someone that just happens to be successful despite the fact you don't like him.

I think Metallica is crap, I don't like it. Maybe that means they're douche bags? I'm not defending him, so much as the principle that opinion does not equal fact. No one forces you to listen to him, no one forces you to keep an eye on their face book activity.

We get it, you don't like him. Fair enough, but don't attack someone based on assumptions, how do you know it wasn't his manager or something that got that group removed.

Oh the delicious irony.

At least 2 of their songs are proven to be the exact same with different lyrics at a different pitch. That is why I hate them, they are so unoriginal they copy their own songs.
You'll find that a lot of artists "copy" other songs made by other musicians.

Well, good on him for defending his life's work and actually liking it. I mean, if he hated it, wouldn't you think he'd change their style of music?
Oh, and comment on his hair. I don't anyone's called someone out on their appearance since, what, kindergarten?

OP: I personally enjoy listening to Nickelback, in particular All The Right Reasons as it was the album that really spurred me into listening music. I admit that they're not the most creative band, but then again, if I refer to the other video, not many groups are. I think a lot of people claim to "hate" it just to follow the crowd and be popular, just like a lot of the Halo-haters.

It's not that I hate THEM, it's that I hate what they REPRESENT... The deification and commodification of banality and mediocrity. The only difference between them and the slew of talentless, manufactured pop-idiots like Lady GaGa, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber et al. is that they write their own songs. IMHO, it's all music for people that don't actually like music. Then again, I'm from the school of thought that believes music is an artform and should provide at least a little intellectual stimulation, whether it be musically or lyrically, so I guess I'm a little biased in that respect. "Let's all get wasted and scheme on drunk chicks!" just doesn't cut it for me...

I don't hate Nickelback. Sure, a lot of the songs are repetitive, but if you don't listen to them often, a song here or there isn't all that bad.
I second that, but also because I prefer Metal, Instrumental and Classic Music rather than what-ever genre Nickelback does.

I like "Rockstar". Cool song. I dunno, maybe the hate is all due to the fact that Chad Kroeger looks like a sheep.

Or it could be the fact that although it is incredibly obvious that Nickleback is a pretty no-talent generic rock band, nearly every song of theirs simply reeks of pretenciousness. That's probably why "Rockstar" is their only decent song - it doesn't take itself so fucking seriously.

I listened to them when I was 12 or 13, but I do not anymore. I gradually got tired of their music and started listening to other bands. My taste in music changed for the better I think, but that is just my opinion.

Because they are Bro Rock or Frat boy rock. The singer's voice reminds me of a drowning rooster and the lyrics seem fresh out of a jock's weekend diary.

I'm surprised no one has posted the "Theory of a Nickel Fault" argument yet (Though if someone has I didn't no see it). The simple fact the they're nothing original, at all. They sound the same and Theory of a Dead Man and Default (Don't care which band came first either). Cords, lyric styles, voice ranges/style, background music ... EVERYTHING is the same. Plus Chad Kroeger is a fucking moron, idiot and an egotistical bastard, waste of life if you ask me.

Side note: I saw Chad Kroeger get arrested outside of The Roxy here in Vancouver BC for punching someone, was awesome!!
